Not sure where Mynanny is based, the term GP, although not exclusive to the UK, led me to think that she was in GB.

Well I am very confused!

If what you write is true - then pay the doctor some more money and get him to tell you what it means. How do you expect anyone else to know exactly what you were tested for, why you were tested, and how accurate that test was etc etc.

Why are you asking random people on a website who may live in another country to you? Why not ask your own doctor or hospital?

travelsafar, good questions. There are two different tests. Both would be needed to confirm that you don't have the active virus - and that you have immunity at present.

The throat swab test goes to a laboratory and will indicate if you have the virus.

The blood test is quicker but only shows whether you have antibodies now (not whether they will persist).

Therefore 'They all have had the test today' makes no sense!

I dont get this testing thing???? If they test you and it is negative does that mean you have not got it or that you haven't had it?
Just because on the day you were tested and it was negative doesn't mean that few days later you may get it.
My brain just doesnt compute it all. Can someone explain please.

My DH was tested on Tuesday ( he is symptomatic currently) and got a positive result on Wednesday, we were surprised at how quick they were as they had told us it was 3-4 working days for results. It was a very quick and efficient process.
I was under the impression that the swabs are not accurate if you have not got it currently and the antibody tests are unreliable.

This just doesn't make sense. Nobody can say they've 'had it' and I'm sure anyone doing a test would stress that there are many false negative results. There are no 'instant' results either.

Why on Earth would somebody want our views when they've just seen a doctor? The doctor would tell them to continue isolation.

I'm so disappointed by those seeking to avoid the lockdown rules. It's a matter of life and death - not a joke!

I was told yesterday by the hospital that even if my mums test ( essential for discharge) is negative, she will still have to go into 14 days isolation at her new care home as she could still be a carrier. I'm not sure this makes sense to me but it is the current policy here in the UK for care home admissions.

I wonder why OP’s D, her partner and children were tested unless symptomatic?

So is it a private doctor? Did you pay for this?

The tests aren’t instant phoenix so this lady is not in U.K. they take 2-4 days at least

What country are you in, @Mynanny ? Different countries have different restrictions and I certainly don't recognise a UK scenario from your OP.

the rules do not allow for any mingling of households in these circumstances. so no, they must not visit, nor you them.
also, even if you have had it, there is no definite proof that that means you cannot get/ pass it on again.
there have been reported cases from china and korea where people seem to have become ill again with CV some months after recovering from it. i wouldn't be taking any chances.
and your neighbours might report you. don't do it.

They had a test today, and have already had results? I didn't realise that results were "instant", thought it took at least a couple of days.
