Good idea.
Also make sure that you have find my phone switched on so that you can find it when it somehow got where it got in my DD’s car.
I didn’t, so got the phone blocked. Waited till I got back to the U.K. so I could go into a shop to get it unblocked!!
Well that great plan backfired didn’t it?
That great mobile phone provider o2 doesn’t answer calls in the lockdown, not mine anyway.

Are my specs on there, please?

I'm struggling with an old pair and can't go for another appointment.

where they belong. Sorry, hit post instead of preview.

I suppose it might work, if you still have a landline. I don't, so I rely on always putting things back where the belong.

Admittedly, I do occasionally forget to do so, but at the risk of sounding like my paternal grandmother having a place for everything and everything in its place does work.

It's only taken me 60 odd years to realise that, thank you, Grannie.

It also locks the phone and SIM.
I might add that, in all my years of having mobiles since they were routinely available in the UK, I have never lost, damaged, had stolen or broken any of them, so mine isn't even insured.

Most mobile phones need an unlock code to open, either fingerprint, pattern or a code of 6+ digits and they lock according to your settings.
I set mine to lock 30 seconds after no activity.
I also upload photos to Cloud or Google drive and they are only accessible through an email password.
Lastly, I have ESet smart security (UK) on my phone which, when someone loses, steals, tries to access/hack with unidentified codes/prints etc, will automatically track the phone to within a few feet and take photos of the area and person holding it.
Costs 82p pm.

Think not thinks

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-Apr-20 16:26:44

I thinks that's a forlorn hope kittylester
N'eer mind, they'll surface when you aren't looking for them, that's always the way.
Probably when you're looking for your favourite sun-hat or the bottle of lavender eau- de-toilette that you got last Xmas and plan to give Aunt Maude for her 85th birthday next week. ?

This is a good idea, Gabriella.

Do you think this will work for the glass christmas tree ornaments I couldnt find last year or it it too late now?

Oopsminty Sat 25-Apr-20 15:56:05

What a good idea!

I have so many items in 'safe places' that I doubt I'll ever see again

NotAGran55 Sat 25-Apr-20 15:54:16

Brilliant idea !

wildswan16 Sat 25-Apr-20 15:50:55

Good idea, so long as you don't lose your phone while out - and burglar then has pictures of all your precious belongings and where to find them !

Bathsheba Sat 25-Apr-20 15:40:36

I do this with Christmas presents, as I buy them. I learnt my lesson a few years ago when I came across I present during the summer that I'd bought my daughter for Christmas. I hadn't forgotten where I'd put it - I'd forgotten I'd bought it grin

Oopsadaisy3 Sat 25-Apr-20 14:30:59

What a good idea!
I hope I remember to take a photo of something I’m likely to forget putting down somewhere..............

Ever forgotten where your house/car keys are or where you put your wallet or favourite earrings...or that magazine you meant to read or the birthday card and gift to send to your mum?
Fear not. The answer is in your mobile phone.
Whenever you put away, hide gifts, presents or items from prying eyes, first, take a photo of the item in situ before closing/locking/zipping/covering it up and carrying on your day.
Now... before any smart Alec wails ' but what if I can't find my phone?' the answer is to ring it from your landline and your landline will, sensibly, have your mobile number in it's called numbers or on a sticky note on the handset.
I started using this idea after secreting my rather large wallet (mostly loyalty cards) in one of those collapsible laundry thingys when I went out for the day.
I only took one debit card plus rail card in a bodybelt but, after returning home late and shower bed sleep, could not the next morning, remember where it was.
After an all day search, I eventually found it and vowed to always take a photo if the same circumstances arose.
The wallet contained other important and unnecessary info that I did not want to cart around.
The photo will be automatically dated so that you will always see the most recent first.
File them under your name or a separate album, 'My missing items' or something you will recognise as your 'missing' list.
