I'm having trouble with my toilet seat, I'm sure you know the 'wonky' scenario.

Now, the screw just keeps spinning without tightening but I also can't get the thing that the screw goes into, out!

Any suggestions, please?
If I could just find a way to hold it for now I would be happy.

I'm getting [comfused] now.

Did the phone fall down the loo when you were I inspecting the loo seat?

The fittings are rubbish these says, however expensive the seat. One minute they're fine, the next you're swinging sideways.
Has it rotted? I ask because the fitting thingy for our perfectly OK tap has corroded and half is missing.

You can get different sizes of Rawl plugs.

Anyway, leaving the toilet seat up means that when your DH flushes, the spray travels far far further than he may realise...or maybe he doesn't think of it. Not a good idea.
Never mind...I'm sure you'd miss those annoyances...

phoenix
I get it...but more pluses than minuses makes for ??

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 21:54:51

No...just lift it up so I can see the fitting

MissAdventure Fri 01-May-20 21:47:02

Does that mean I've got to take the damn seat off again, Gabriella? sad

phoenix Fri 01-May-20 21:37:37

Gabriella there are always "buts", for example ,but I wish he wouldn't leave the toilet seat up, leave his socks on the floor, wish he wouldn't leave that mess after making a sandwich.....m

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 21:33:18

like a RAWL plug not...real plug ?

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 21:31:56

MissAdventure
Please put a photo of the place where the screw fits in.
The plastic thingy like a real plug is called a gasket and is there to prevent the screw (metal) from cracking the pan of the toilet (ceramic) when you tighten it.
I've looked on YouTube and seen how to fix it but need to see what kind of seat fitting it is as there are several with different ways of fixing and tightening it.

Love (and a toothpick) conquers all.

If you love him there areare no buts. ????‍❤️‍?‍?

MissAdventure Fri 01-May-20 19:56:01

Tweezers would fit down there, I think, but the thing is very sturdy, so I don't think they'd grip enough.

It's really given me the hump!
I'm painting the bathroom, but having to do umpteen repairs as well.

I need a box of matches, or man.

phoenix Fri 01-May-20 19:53:17

GabriellaG54 have you read other threads! Love him very much but...........

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 19:48:23

He sounds a keeper phoenix, he buys you the items he needs. Still, he listens to you and that's a plus AND he fixed the seat. All good.

Grannynannywanny Fri 01-May-20 19:48:04

PS would a pair of tweezers fit in the hole to pull the thing out??

Grannynannywanny Fri 01-May-20 19:46:32

I had similar problems for years with loo seats loosening off no matter how I tried to tighten them. About 4 years ago friend recommended a seat in Argos. Their most basic and cheapest white one saying it solved the problem for her. It was only £5 at that time, I think it might be £8 now. I replaced both loo seats with the £5 ones and in 4 years they’ve never loosened. Also they were very easy to fit. When the opportunity arises one of them might be worth a try Missadventure.

Good. Best buy yourself some matches as they are useful. Cocktail sticks do not splinter like matchsticks do therefore the screw can't bite into them as well. The two woods are different, one hard, one soft.

MissAdventure Fri 01-May-20 19:39:18

I'm back.
It has 5 cocktail sticks in there, and it's wonky (of course!) but on for a little while, I think. smile if people are careful about sitting down.

Thank you Gabriella and Chestnut

No, GabriellaG54 just a "bog" standard one grin

He did actually fit it the same day, which was something.

Unlike the time I unwrapped what I thought/hoped was a tablet (Ipad, Kindle etc) as it seemed to be the right shape, only to find that I was the less than proud possessor of a digital air compressor for blowing up tyresconfused

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 19:26:26

How lovely thoughtful Phoenix
Was it a heated one?

phoenix Fri 01-May-20 19:23:28

Oh rogue toilet seats!

I had one once that either slammed the lid down on your back or tried to throw you off like a bucking bronco!

I complained to Me P about it on several occasions!

Result? On Christmas morning I was presented with a beautifully wrapped, large box which contained..........a toilet seat!confused

Beechnut Fri 01-May-20 19:20:28

Ahh I didn’t think about the opening up of pliers * Gabriella* ? this would be a job where I would be going back and forth to the tool box trying all sorts and using a lot of bad language?

MissAdventure Fri 01-May-20 19:18:46

Right then.
I'm off to try a matchstick (hope I've got one!)

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 19:17:21

Keep phone on charge then just do the match thing then come back to us

GabriellaG54 Fri 01-May-20 19:16:25

Depending on how wide the hole is, use half the match or both halves if screw will fit in as well.

MissAdventure Fri 01-May-20 19:15:39

I need a new phone; this one keeps turning on, off, clicking onto all kinds of things.

It's a bit like Triggers broom in 'Only fools and horses'.
