Good Morning Everyone,
It bright and sunny here in Brackley this morning.
Will do a shop shortly after breakfast .
Will be interesting to see what the VE Day will be like locally will see a solo singer on the Piazza in the town singing or what.
What is noticeable is the still air ,and its surprising noise can be heard , due tto the lack of carbon being burned off from vehicles effecting the air.

Good morning all from a cloudy, but pleasant Glasgow, where it's 13 C already.

Gilly, I worry so much about you. There must be someone who can help you. I don't know how you manage to keep going. That and the strain of looking after your husband must be taking its toll on your health and well-being.

Happy Birthday, Cornergran, ??, it sounds as if you have a pleasant day planned. Enjoy!

A gentle day for me today, I overdid it yesterday and am paying the price for it now.
We have stripped the bed, made it up and I promptly jumped back in again. ??
I attempted to make cinnamon muffins for DH yesterday, as they are unavailable in the supermarket.
It was a Paul Hollywood recipe, a man I can't take to, but they were so successful that DH said, there was no point buying them in store anymore.
Shot myself in the foot there! grin

We clapped for the NHS last night and could hear the clapping all the way up the hills to the golf course. The town was so quiet, with little traffic. It was very uplifting to hear so many people out.
We have a virus hotspot here and everyone knows someone who has been affected.☹️

I have Tesco delivery today, great excitement. I nearly had an apoplexy last night, when I made a final check.?
The bill was huge.

It was then that realised that DD had sneakily added a considerable number of items, that including my neighbours' shopping had pushed up the hill.
One of my neighbours has a craving for frozen mashed potato, ( the same one who craved fish fingers last week), I just crave Midget Gem sweets for some strange reason! ?

Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Sark So thoughtful and must make you feel joyful!
Enjoy ?

Puzzler61 Fri 08-May-20 08:17:55

PS I’ll be glued to the TV today watching all I can about VE Day, observing 1 min. silence also.

Forgot to say Happy Birthday Cornergranflowers

Good Morning everyone from Oxfordshire
Gillybob I really hope you can have a peaceful weekend and look after yourselfflowers
We have just had the most lovely surprise!
Our 6 year old GS has been doing a VE day school project and our DD, SIL, GS and GD are having a VE party in their garden.
We have just had a tap on the front door and there was a cool box with lots of little pots all beautifully labled by GS containing 2 homemade cheese straws,2 cakes, 2 scones, jam, cream, 1 teabag, coffee, napkins, paper cups (with our faces drawn on!) homemade bunting and a lovely invitation to join them at 12 pm for a virtual party!
So much thought and effort put in by all of them and has absolutely made my day!
Hope everyone has a good day cupcakebrewflowers

Good morning Mick and all from Worcs.
Happy Birthday Cornergran ?
Warmest day yesterday as I found out when I agreed to DH’s long walk just after lunch. Phew! I definitely sleep better on days we have a 60 min walk.
Newquay - as I read your post I felt excitement for you - you’re going to have a great day today ??
Gillybob I hate to hear of your suffering. Take a nap today. Take care all and enjoy VE Day and the good weather ?

MawB Fri 08-May-20 08:02:57

Good morning all and Happy Birthday Cornergran
It’s not everybody gets the flags put out on their birthday - not even the Queen this year!
Erm, Nortsat, won’t the PO be shut today as it’s a public holiday? It would be annoying to have a wasted trip.
Our village has done itself proud for today (or Corner’s birthday) and while street parties are not really my thing, I shall be out on the green opposite our house later to enjoy a glass of Prosecco with some of my neighbours- at a distance of course.
Wishing you all a pleasant day!

Good morning all from a beautifully sunny mid-Notts. Happy birthday to you Cornergran - do hope you enjoy the day as best you can smile. No particular plans here today - a nice quiet one I rather hope. Hope everyone has a happy VE day and please stay safe x

Good Morning Mick and all. A warm and bright morning on the S Welsh coast.
We will observe the two minute silence at 11 am and raise a toast at 3pm. We will remember my late DH who was still in India on VE Day and my late Mil who was outside Buckingham Palace.
Happy Birthday corner ??
Stay safe everyone.

Urmstongran Fri 08-May-20 07:53:37

Actually NannyJan your comment made me think about the clapping here last night. It’s definitely lessened here too.

I suppose after 8 full weeks of doing it every night and the lockdown here easing with hairdressers now open and terrace bars at 30% capacity from Mo day, it was always going to happen. I said to Himself let’s clap tomorrow (tonight) and then stop.

Newquay Fri 08-May-20 07:53:06

Good morning all from a sunny Staffs. It’s our local DGS’s 12th birthday today. We’ve bought him a bike. It’s is our shed so we’re hoping he’ll come round when his Mum, DD2, brings round our shopping. We open the gate and they bring their own drinks and sit down the garden. We’re having a silence in the street at 11am then Street Party just afternoon 3. We’ve made some bunting and will chalk on pavement. I’m making scones for neighbours. After cooking I’ll put them into food bags with tongs and put them at the end of their drives.

Good Morning from a dull Fife as expected though. Happy Birthday Cornergran sure you will have a good day/evening. Gilly - you know we are all here to support and I hope you get some good positive news very soon, it has to come some time. Watched VE day programme with Dame Vera last night and found it very emotional for some reason, don't know if it's because of our situation just now or indeed I'm getting older and much more appreciative. No definitive plans for today but will be thinking of all those who sacrificed their life to allow us to be here today. Will be thinking of all. Keep your chin up.

Urmstongran Fri 08-May-20 07:45:36

Good morning everyone from sunny Malaga ? where it’s already warm. Himself went out a while ago for his early morning BRISK walk.

Friday = steak night with a lovely bottle of Ribera to share ??

Prices in the SuperSol make me smile. Yesterday’s shop included a tin of JW red salmon which cost €8 whereas the two fillet steaks were only €6 ‼️

Many happy returns of the day cornergran ???? and I too hope gillybob rests up now till Monday. Throw salt on it girl it’ll keep.

Hope jacq10 had a better day yesterday with the increased painkillers and I was happy to hear about the progress baby Henry is making Susan56 you must all be SO relieved this weekend.

Hope Friday is good to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Good Morning from a bright and sunny Black Country.

Another walk to the park and back yesterday, traffic on the ring road in our town seemed as busy as normal Mick no sounds but the humming of traffic!

Arranging a video call with two of my friends, one lives in Lincolnshire the other in Shropshire, we all used to meet up regularly when working in the same company until one friend moved. We last all met up physically in November, that seems like another world away now.

There seemed to be less people out clapping last night.

Hope you are ok gilly we all wish here there was something we could do to help you. A virtual ((((hug))) coming your way x

Wishing you all a happy VE day, I will be thinking of my Dad who was a Tank Commander in the War.

Happy Birthday cornergran cupcake flowers

Good morning from east London, bright, sunny and warm. Last night we had a brass quartet from a local church playing ‘happy and you know it, clap your hands’ with words slightly changed to fit in the NHS. They’re keen to have some percussion next week so the pan lids may have to come out. We dressed to represent a decade for choir last night; I wore bits of my old school uniform - beret, scarves and tie as that’s what I spent a fair bit of time in the 70s in. Sun cream is out again; it’s like proper summer with the air staying warm into the evening. My neighbour has decorated his house with bunting and flags; just hope people remember the fighting was still going on elsewhere 75 years ago even tho Europe had achieved peace. Walk later and debating if a big shop is due or not; the vegetarian in this family (me) is quite happy but DP is feeling a lack of meat. Have a good day.

Morning all from a bright and sunny North Leicestershire.

Making a cake and some biscuits for our VE day sit outside. I'm trying to work out how we can share them with the neighbours safely! If I can't, we'll have to eat themselves!

Many happy returns, corner - have a lovely day.

Gilly, just sending love and hugs - wish I could do more!

grandMattie Fri 08-May-20 07:17:01

My parents were married on VEday + 4. It always meant a great deal to us, even though at the time we understood very little except that it was the end of “The War”.
No parties in our street I’m afraid. Old farts, uptight and proper, and all that...
Lovely day today. Nothing on again except that we shall be walking to the farm shop for our veggies. Asparagus! Two birds, one stone.

Bellasnana Fri 08-May-20 07:16:36

Good morning from sunny Malta.

Happy birthday cornergran, hope you enjoy yourself.

Nothing very exciting planned for today, just ironing, tidying, and the thing I dread most - washing my hair! I really am missing my hairdresser now.

Wishing you all as good a day as possible. Specially thinking of Gilly and others who are dealing with more than their fair share of difficulties and sorrows.sunshine

GrannyGravy13 Fri 08-May-20 07:15:18

Goodmorning Mick and all x

Happy Birthday Cornergran ??

Gillybob please take some time out and rest ?

On my second walk of lockdown yesterday we saw lots of houses decorated with bunting and flags, one had garden table and chairs all,set up for afternoon tea in the front garden.

The sky is blue and it is meant to be 25 degrees and sunny today so lazing in the garden with a book is what I,shall be doing.

Shall observe the 11am silence and raise a toast for VE Day at 3pm ???????

Keep safe and well folks?

NfkDumpling Fri 08-May-20 07:14:02

Posted first. Read thread after (its the excitement of thinking of tonight).

Happy Birthday Corner! ????

And Gilly - perhaps its time to say the magic words - Bugger it - turn off the computer, unplug the phone, and retreat from the world for the weekend. Come back to it on Monday. It won’t have gone away, it won’t have changed, but you’ll be a bit stronger.

brook2704 Fri 08-May-20 07:11:22

Good morning everyone from Inverness. We had a lovely warm sunny day yesterday only up to mid afternoon though - then it got cloudy and bits of rain !
Yesterday evening we had another great turnout for the clapping for NHS and one neighbour playing guitar which sounded great. I don’t think there’s any celebrations planned for VE Day today though ..
Happy Birthday cornergran hope you enjoy your day ???❤️
gillybob ?hope you have a better day
Hope everyone has the best day they can especially everyone with worries and struggles, take care ?

NfkDumpling Fri 08-May-20 07:08:24

Morning All

A bit more cloud here this morning in the north of Norfolk.

We’re actually going out tonight - don’t tell anyone. Leaving our property. We’re going to sit on the low wall of the nearby Social Club and listen to Churchill and Vera Lynn courtesy of our local DJ. Taking beer and crisps and maybe a sausage roll. There will be other people there! (All social distancing of course).

Sar53 Fri 08-May-20 07:06:22

Happy birthday Cornergran ??

Nortsat Fri 08-May-20 07:06:21

Good morning Mick and the GM team.
Happy Birthday Corner wishing you good health and good times in the coming year. ?
Sorry to hear you had a bad night gilly ?

I had a work related Zoom meeting yesterday, which went well. I have a couple of hours of work to do, as a result.

My partner needs to take a trip to the PO, to post a parcel for me. I upgraded my phone and the wretched thing won’t take incoming calls. It’s got to go back ...

I am slow cooking a gammon joint today, we’ll have it with salad for supper tonight and the remainder will be eaten with cauliflower cheese.

Enjoy the sunshine all, good wishes to those who need them and ‘Let’s be careful out there’.

Sar53 Fri 08-May-20 07:05:20

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny Essex by the sea.
A beautiful start to VE day.
No plans today, maybe a walk later if DH's knee is up to it. The latest in his painful joints. Hopefully he will be speaking to his GP on Monday.
I'm sorry you had such a bad night Gilly, for what it's worth ? for you.
Have the best day you can and stay safe everyone xx
