Well, whaddya think?

I thought he came across very well. No long words. No faffing. Plain and simple.

henetha Mon 11-May-20 10:26:34

We never make it pleasant for Prime Ministers in this country, do we. Pick pick pick.whatever they do. I would hate that job!
Anyway, I don't hate Boris, I find him quite likeable, and yes I do know that is irrelevant...
However, to be honest, I found myself a little confused after his speech last night... so I'll continue to isolate, although I might try to see my sons in the garden or a park somewhere.

Alexa Mon 11-May-20 10:27:25

Naturally the Conservatives want people to go back to work so the rich will stay that way.

Alexa Mon 11-May-20 10:28:37

Boris is a charming man

Summerstorm Mon 11-May-20 10:28:45

I’m glad I’m in Scotland. I’ve never heard such a load of rubbish. Go to work but don’t use public transport. How are Londoners especially supposed to get there then. You can meet up with a family member in a park but not in your own garden. They must have very small gardens if you can’t stay 2mtr apart in it. As I said a load of rubbish

JenniferEccles Mon 11-May-20 10:28:48

We have NOT got the highest death rate in the world.

We haven’t even got the highest death rate in Europe in the figures which matter ie deaths per million of population.

We are actually 5th behind Belgium ,Spain, Italy and France.

There will be more details later from the government regarding last night’s briefing.

The newspapers of course will be analysing the details.

Let’s face it there is no way Boris was going to please everyone. I thought it was a good speech. No one is forced to go out. If you’re more comfortable inside then stay there. I’m looking forward to being able to drive the 10 miles to the coast for exercise and a change of scene! My understanding was that you can meet one friend outside if you keep to the distancing rule and also one member of your family. I’m a bit horrified about the no hair cuts rule until at least July! Having said that I wouldn’t be too sure about going to a hair salon at the moment anyway but if that’s the rule then I will abide by it

Sys2ad2 Mon 11-May-20 10:32:14

No mention of garden centres, and hairdressers
Absolute madness to say drive for exercise that's for the Mp's and celebs so more traffic and accidents and breakdowns and when they all get to the beach etc will be crowded and no chance of social distancing

CC90 Mon 11-May-20 10:34:18

I thought it was a load of nonsense . No proper guidance as in other countries with careful thought out plans . Stay at home as much as possible but exercise as much as you like . Those who cannot work from home return on Monday but not really those who use public transport . I suppose it’s hard for millionaires to comprehend not everyone has a car ! Schools may return on June 1 but only certain years and no indication of how this is to be achieved . Why the delay implementing a 14 day quarantine at airports when other countries put that in place at the start? Ineffectual government and leadership

Joesoap Mon 11-May-20 10:34:27

I found it quite confusing, but at least it is a gradual ease on lock down, still think it is too early.

TriciaSD Mon 11-May-20 10:36:48

I predict that in 2-3 weeks more people will have caught the virus because of his statement yesterday, some of whom will die. How can you Stay Alert to something that you can't see, touch, smell or hear?! Out of the four nations England is the only one that has adopted this, which tells me something. As much as I miss my family and cuddles with the grandkids I won't be travelling to visit them until I'm sure that it's safe to do so.

DotMH1901 Mon 11-May-20 10:36:56

Total trot - people being advised to go back to work before any safeguards have been put in place - the Tube was overcrowded this morning with people trying to go to work - how can you still expect social distancing when you are crammng people on to the available trains like sardines? You can go out for exercise - bet the Police will be annoyed about that one given the amount of people told off for being outside by them so far! Absolute rubbish and waffle - when will people realise that there are only two choices - herd immunity (so sorry if you die but never mind, the bulk of us will be okay) or produce a working and efficient vaccine/treatment.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 11-May-20 10:37:19

The PM did not say dont use public transport he said avoid public transport if you can.

It was only days ago that posters were on GN saying they had friends /family members who needed to work to pay their bills etc., now that it is possible to return to work if a^safe environment^ can be provided they are complaining about being given the opportunity to return to work.....make up your mind please.

If it's safe for supermarket workers to carry on so that we can all be fed it should be safe for a lot more of the workforce to return.

Lancslass1 Mon 11-May-20 10:37:58

Marjoram,I posted “poor chap”
I was obviously not speaking of his financial position.
Would you want to be him?
I wouldn’t
I agree with Glenfinnan.

Delene100 Mon 11-May-20 10:38:09

Clear guidance out today. He could not spell it all out in a 10 minute appearance.

Grannynannywanny Mon 11-May-20 10:38:55

Trisher same here. My 2 youngest GC are reception and year 3. So one for school and one at home.

I feel like my head is going to burst trying to think through the practicalities of this situation.

I’m 120 miles away and would normally get in the car and stay a few days if one of the the kids were at home unwell.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so frustrated and useless

Susieq62 Mon 11-May-20 10:39:21

Mr Bumble muddled his way through a pre recorded speech which was as clear as mud for the majority of us. He is not Churchill, although he would dearly love to be. All that is needed is concise key points. Who is going back to work today? How do they get there? Who looks after their children now?? Why quarantine travellers at the end of the month instead of beginning of March? Lockdown was too late. We should be out the other side by now..
Wednesday will be a nightmare when people take advantage of more exercise. Traffic has already increased here for the past week. People are not listening or distancing as they should.
He is an inept leader . He lacks assertiveness and is part of the Aston Mess coupled with Hancock’s half hour.

Lancslass1 Mon 11-May-20 10:39:30

Sorry that should have been Marjgran

Susieq62 Mon 11-May-20 10:39:55

Eton mess

Lancslass1 Mon 11-May-20 10:41:35

Susieq 62,do you have someone in mind who could do things better?

Jan16 Mon 11-May-20 10:41:36

He did say no hairdressers or pubs opening till at least July. Also said you could drive to go for exercise.

Seajaye Mon 11-May-20 10:42:37

He would have been better to kept to the same message as the variations dilute the containment efforts to date The urging of people to return to work if they can not work at home (presumably including hairdressers, dentists, opticians, for whom working 2 m apart is impossible) was lacking in clarity, but is probably leading up to a winding down of furlough support for employers. Many of my work colleagues are worried sick about serious risk redundancy in July, and their rent payments, as a result of down turn in economy as many businesses will not simply bounce back.

helgawills Mon 11-May-20 10:42:37

He always blusters, no compassion in his voice, slogans, pah!
Encouraging people to drive, what is he thinking? For some of us with lung conditions the air quality recently has been much improved. We can't go back to what they used to think of as 'normal' ever!

Neilspurgeon0 Mon 11-May-20 10:44:26

I was VERY impressed, very clear, but clearly from five minutes later, Kunnsberg was listening to something totally different as she was STILL obviously misunderstanding it, you would think that the BBC would employ someone with a brain, but clearly Keir Starmer got it, his queries, unlike here’s, made perfect sense.

Bloody Scots wee shite is playing games though, like she always does

GrannyGravy13 Mon 11-May-20 10:44:43

Hairdressers, beauticians, dentists and opticians are not returning to work as they cannot socially distance 2 meters apart.
