Not seeing your grandchildren is to keep you safe, and your grandchildren and their parents safe. But primarily it’s to keep you safe, because their parents may well be key workers or medics, and will certainly be shopping in the supermarket. If keeping yourself and your family safe isn’t important to you, go ahead, meet and hug your grandchildren.

This answer came from habitual liar Boris Johnson and should be investigated by the media who still seem to act like BJ puppets. Where is the scrutiny and the search for truth that the public needs and desrves>

When we aren't face to face it's difficult to guess which style of a comment is best. Gransnet has a mixture of the two sorts of comment. Clearly you and others thought sympathy was proper, and some others thought dispassionate comment is best.

Many were at work all along
Many will continue to WFH
Many remained furloughed from workplaces like dentists, cinemas, etc.

Nobody ended lockdown. It has just had some minor tweeks.

Read the guidance its clear. O was listening to Radio 4 news earlier this evening when the news presenter asked Chris Mason a series of questions and seemed disappointed that there was a clear answer for each.
No you cannot hig your grandchildren, or visit other peoples homes. You can meet one person from outside your household outside but you must be 2m apart.

Why becsuse the virus stays on surfaces indoors and will aid passing on the infection whereas outside the risk is less.

Re hugging the grandchildren, I apologise if you think I lack compassion, but as a granny with three grandchildren who live overseas, who I haven’t seen in real life for three years, and the way things are have no idea when I will see them again, I get rather weary when people feel a few weeks apart is such a hardship.

Gabriela What on earth can you mean? No faffing, no long words, intelligible??? The PM is such a bad speaker, I cannot stand listening for more than a few minutes. Also he appeared to be reading, which is fine if you check it first. I switch him off and wait for considered reports from unbiased journalists. How kind can you be?

Schools need to be consulted. June is not far off and half term is before then.
Opening the flood gates for people to drive as far as they like to exercise is ludicrous. I live at the coast with the highest elderly demographic. We’re all careful and have a very low R rate. How is it sensible for everyone to be allowed to drive here to sun bathe etc and bring the virus with them. Oh and our coastal car parks and public toilets are closed.
Even Dominic Raab didn’t understand the new advice.

And do they really need to be advised to wear a face covering when sitting cheek-by-jowl with hundreds of commuters on the Tube?

If businesses havent contacted their staff by Wednesday to update, whether they will or will not open. Thats not the governments fault.

I'm with Pittcity ! While I'm not a huge fan of Keir Starmer, he pointed out a whole series of discrepancies. Particularly, the fact that specific "Guidance" was to be issued later - with no firm timetable. The PM did say "as soon as possible", but that isn't much help to employers who may have personnel turning up on Wednesday, expecting all to be in order for their safety.

I liked KS at first but he is becoming increasingly absurd.

Of course the gov cant tell businesses "you will all have your adjustments in place on X day. Open then!"
REDICULOUS.

For some businesses all they may need to do to be ready to open is move a few chairs apart. Others may need to completely refigure and get builders in!

The ones that arent can open as soon as they are.
