Well, whaddya think?

I thought he came across very well. No long words. No faffing. Plain and simple.

Nanna58 Mon 11-May-20 17:38:03

Calendargirl what a nasty and unpleasant way to speak of people who are missing their grandchildren - regardless of what you think of them questioning the rules. A little compassion would not go amiss!

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 17:38:58

If businesses havent contacted their staff by Wednesday to update, whether they will or will not open. Thats not the governments fault.

Sparklefizz Mon 11-May-20 17:46:22

Did people really turn up for work today without checking whether their workplace was open?

And do they really need to be advised to wear a face covering when sitting cheek-by-jowl with hundreds of commuters on the Tube?

Alexa Mon 11-May-20 17:48:57

Rubbish Nana58 ! Calendar Girl did not insult anyone in particular. There was nothing in what she wrote to indicate lack of compassion.

Lancslass1 Mon 11-May-20 17:49:13

Helgawills.
Jeremy Corbyn?
You are joking.

Nannieannie51 Mon 11-May-20 17:51:24

I read with amazement the people who think Boris has done well on this. What clarity did he provide?
Anyone familiar with construction sites knows that social distancing will be ignored/impossible
Certain employers will disregard workers safety unless forced to
Schools need to be consulted. June is not far off and half term is before then.
Opening the flood gates for people to drive as far as they like to exercise is ludicrous. I live at the coast with the highest elderly demographic. We’re all careful and have a very low R rate. How is it sensible for everyone to be allowed to drive here to sun bathe etc and bring the virus with them. Oh and our coastal car parks and public toilets are closed.
Even Dominic Raab didn’t understand the new advice.

Nanna58 Mon 11-May-20 17:55:11

Really Alexa? I suggest you re-read and then follow the same advice!

OliverZach Mon 11-May-20 17:58:12

He actually said return to work on Wednesday

AlisonKF Mon 11-May-20 17:59:41

Gabriela What on earth can you mean? No faffing, no long words, intelligible??? The PM is such a bad speaker, I cannot stand listening for more than a few minutes. Also he appeared to be reading, which is fine if you check it first. I switch him off and wait for considered reports from unbiased journalists. How kind can you be?

Calendargirl Mon 11-May-20 18:00:33

Thanks Alexa.

Nanna58

Re hugging the grandchildren, I apologise if you think I lack compassion, but as a granny with three grandchildren who live overseas, who I haven’t seen in real life for three years, and the way things are have no idea when I will see them again, I get rather weary when people feel a few weeks apart is such a hardship.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-May-20 18:04:49

Can anyone tell me what happened to one of the pillars that was at one time was stated as absolutely necessary before returning to work etc.

Test trace isolate

Nanna58 Mon 11-May-20 18:05:17

Calendargirl I can only imagine how hard that must be for you, and how worried you must be as to when you will see them again. Let’s all just agree that it’s hard to miss the grandchildren, be it for weeks, months or years.

Tooting29 Mon 11-May-20 18:07:48

Read the guidance its clear. O was listening to Radio 4 news earlier this evening when the news presenter asked Chris Mason a series of questions and seemed disappointed that there was a clear answer for each.
No you cannot hig your grandchildren, or visit other peoples homes. You can meet one person from outside your household outside but you must be 2m apart.

Why becsuse the virus stays on surfaces indoors and will aid passing on the infection whereas outside the risk is less.

Why one person to stop gatherings.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 18:08:01

"Can anyone tell me what happened to one of the pillars that was at one time was stated as absolutely necessary before ending lockdown "
fixed it for you.
lockdown isnt over.
Some people who arent already at work are to go back to work.
Many were at work all along
Many will continue to WFH
Many remained furloughed from workplaces like dentists, cinemas, etc.

Nobody ended lockdown. It has just had some minor tweeks.

Alexa Mon 11-May-20 18:08:16

Nanna58 I will be careful to not hurt anyone's feelings.

When we aren't face to face it's difficult to guess which style of a comment is best. Gransnet has a mixture of the two sorts of comment. Clearly you and others thought sympathy was proper, and some others thought dispassionate comment is best.

Ed DAvey . leader of the Liberal Democrats, asked a question based on factual reports he had been given, that neither the Chief Medical Officer nor the Chief Scientific Advisor, were consulted before the government's change of direction and advice to the public. When he was permitted to put this question to the PM, the answer was a denial.

This answer came from habitual liar Boris Johnson and should be investigated by the media who still seem to act like BJ puppets. Where is the scrutiny and the search for truth that the public needs and desrves>

Nanna58 Mon 11-May-20 18:18:58

We all approach things in different ways I guess Alexa.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-May-20 18:20:49

notanan you have answered a question I didn’t ask.

maddyone Mon 11-May-20 18:24:56

Not seeing your grandchildren is to keep you safe, and your grandchildren and their parents safe. But primarily it’s to keep you safe, because their parents may well be key workers or medics, and will certainly be shopping in the supermarket. If keeping yourself and your family safe isn’t important to you, go ahead, meet and hug your grandchildren.

Calendargirl Mon 11-May-20 18:39:53

Nanna58

Yes, it’s hard for everyone, isn’t it?

All that really matters is for our loved ones to keep safe.

Sheilab72 Mon 11-May-20 18:42:21

Just one query, my birthday on Thursday and my friend wants to pop round. Is our garden at distance ok or has it got to be a park?

Carolespr Mon 11-May-20 18:47:18

Death reporting numbers are always low after a weekend as they do not have the full extent of them. Wait until Tuesday.

Carolespr Mon 11-May-20 18:47:54

That's what I want to know. The new advice is not at all clear.

maddyone Mon 11-May-20 18:47:57

Not your garden, but you can meet in a park, but must maintain social distancing.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 18:48:58

notanan you have answered a question I didn’t ask.

Read it again lol.
I wasnt answering you. I corrected you (in bold)
