Is anyone else wondering what today will bring ? Having just heard that my ex is driving 60 miles to do a distanced visit to relatives, which is fine but will the roads suddenly be full of people off to play golf etc .? It will be strange.

Thing will not change for me. I am working from home and will continue to do so as my husband and is high risk. Our house is on the market and we have always had accompanied viewings and I have taken my husband out when these have been happening. I think for now I would have to refuse any viewings unless we can ensure strict hygiene rules.

I imagine the roads aren't too busy either. So long as everyone doesn't have the same idea smile

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Wed 13-May-20 10:47:58

Calendar girl I do hope that estate agents are opening. I am desperate to view and offer on a house so that I can get away from my stbxh who I have been stuck with in lockdown. I'll happily wear a hazmat suit if necessary. As soon as our house completes I can get away. I'm happy for the removal people to work however they need to to keep safe and will keep away from them but the thought of nothing happening for another few months could seriously too much to bear. At least if I'm in thd process of purchasing the end will seem in sight?

A local golf course has been open for walkers to exercise throughout the pandemic, but people are asked to keep their dogs on leads (and clear up after them) and not let children play in the bunkers. So people have objected ‘Why can’t my child play in the sand?’, and ‘why can’t my dog run free?’

It beggars belief.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 13-May-20 10:46:46

Oh GabriellaG54 how wonderful for you both, what a surprise ?

GabriellaG54 Wed 13-May-20 10:44:09

Magic indeed ???
Instead of driving to the coast I decided to drive to surprise my daughter in York.
I picked up the car at 6am and I'm just a few doors down the road from her home.

She has no idea I'm here and I've just rung to ask how she is and general chit-chat.
In a minute I will call again and drive to her garden gate and she'll wonder why the second call. I know she'll scream and run down the garden as we haven't seen each other since November '19.
I hope she doesn't cry...?
It's quite emotional...

On the bright side though, anyone who needs a ventilator on ICU can get one. After all that’s what this has all been about, protecting the NHS from meltdown, there is no cure for this Virus yet.
The same risks are all still out there, the virus hasn’t gone away.

westwoodirene1215 Wed 13-May-20 10:41:02

Think people are sometimes forgetting
Toilets apparently if you poo and then flush without seat down you may be putting the virus in the air
They just don’t know

Legs55 Wed 13-May-20 10:33:58

I am having a day at home today as I've been out to my local shop Monday & yesterday, shopping for myself & neighbour who is self isolating.

Tomorrow I am meeting my DD, keeping 2 metres apart, I'm missing her & DGSs but can only see her which will be lovely, we can have a proper chat.

I live in one of the Gateway Towns for Dartmoor & we've seen an increase in both cyclists & traffic for the last few weeks, I expect there will be an increase in traffic if the weather stays sunny.

I will continue as before, using smaller shops rather than large supermarkets. I carry hand sanitizer in my pocket/handbag, gloves & wipes permanently in my car. I practice "social distancing" when out & get extremely annoyed when others don't hmm

Kalu Wed 13-May-20 10:33:31

Would those now taking to the road today, some just for the sake of doing it, feel justified when RTA numbers rise, allowing them the opportunity to thank NHS staff personally as opposed to clapping once a week?

I am willing to stay put here in Scotland until lockdown is slightly eased.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 13-May-20 10:32:07

There was an Estate Agent interviewed on the news and he said that home owners are advised not to be in the property at times of viewings.

J52 Wed 13-May-20 10:32:02

It’s illogical that childminders and professional nannies Can look after children, but GPS can’t.

Nothing to say that the childminders/ nannies are not in the same age bracket as the GPs.

If you’ve a second home/ caravan you can travel to it, but not stay the night.

Riverwalk Wed 13-May-20 10:31:18

Well I suppose the logic is Besotted is that you have to use your common sense and make choices.

Presumably you will absent yourselves or stay in the garden when viewers are in your home, and you're willing to take the risk in order to sell.

And the advice for people to only meet one other person/parent at this time is to keep meetings to a minimum to reduce the risks.

Larsonsmum Wed 13-May-20 10:29:35

We are in Scotland, but one thing concerns me. Much though I'm sure lots of precautionary measures will be taken, and the economy does need to slowly but surely get going - from today people in England can view and wander around stranger's properties for sale, but they still can't visit their parents/offspring in their home, or even in their garden/on their driveway.

Someone has just asked on the Victoria Derbyshire show - "so you can't visit your elderly parents, but if their house was to be for sale you could go round for a viewing?" GOOD POINT!

Larsonsmum Wed 13-May-20 10:27:19

Oopsadaisy3 - exactly what I was thinking. I'm vulnerable due to compromised immunity, but his wife is almost certainly even more vulnerable. He most definitely should be at home shilding too IMHO.

Alioop Wed 13-May-20 10:27:08

Sitting in N.Ireland, so the same as usual. Thought we might even get a wee more exercise, but nope we got to wait til the 28th to see what we are told then. Just had my hour walking the dog, so painting fence later in garden on my ownio. Oh well....

Lucca Wed 13-May-20 10:24:08

Is it true about housing market reopening? So if my son we’d to put his house up for sale I could go and view it? Only kidding.

Besotted Wed 13-May-20 10:21:08

We have been self isolating because of age and medical issues. Our house is on the market and from today viewings can be arranged. This means total strangers would be able to enter our house, obviously with our permission. However our daughter, who is on maternity leave, and according to current advice, cannot come, not even to sit in the garden at an appropriate distance. Where is the logic???

GrannyGravy13 Wed 13-May-20 10:20:57

Please remember that lots of the population did not have the opportunity to work from home or stay home on 80% salary.

Our business has been open all the time with socially distanced working, extra cleaning/sanitising.

This virus is not going anywhere soon, we just have to learn how to adapt our lives and carry on the best we can.

It is totally illogical to put the world on hold until a credible vaccine is found.

Lucca Wed 13-May-20 10:20:30

Grandma24. The LTA has issued good guidelines. Singles play only. Use own tennis balls clearly marked. (My opponent will bring the balls and I will Handle with disposable glove. Doubles only if four people from same household. Our club will keep clubhouse out of bounds. Indoor courts still to remain closed.

jaylucy Wed 13-May-20 10:09:37

Ooopsadaisy - I'd guess they would factor that in to him going out of the house - for all you know, they may be able to have half a house each so have little physical contact anyway !
There's a certain sector of people that have been doing what they want anyway all the way through and those people will no doubt be the ones that will be off to the beach/ national parks etc just because they can.

4allweknow Wed 13-May-20 10:00:23

Sure there will be streets, roads, parks back to normal. Most will forget the 2 mtr rule for their own selfish wants. Perhaps though I will be able to walk in a footpath instead of being mowed down by speeding cyclists.

BGB31 Wed 13-May-20 09:56:23

Scottiebear yes well done Wales! (And Scotland & NI)

Riverwalk Wed 13-May-20 09:55:46

I'm just back from a 90-minute walk and there is definitely a marked increase in road traffic compared to yesterday.

BGB31 Wed 13-May-20 09:55:31

I am sorry and concerned (and angry) for the people who have no choice but to go to work. I would be frightened if I was being made to return - I am lucky that I can easily work from home.
Reopening things means that people have to be there to service whatever is open. They may have to go on public transport - saying use your car is fine, if you have one and if you can find somewhere to park and can afford the parking.

I honestly think we will see a rise in infection (and consequently deaths) in about 3 weeks. And then we will be back to square one.

I realise I sound doom and gloom and I am sorry for that.
