...wearing gloves does not prevent the virus infecting you.

Don't think I would bother with gloves, but still think masks are better than nothing!

Surely it’s a personal choice?
I’m not going to any restaurants in the near future, but it would certainly prevent me from picking up the virus from surfaces in the supermarket.
I’m sure that I’m capable of taking gloves off without contaminating myself.
I might be getting on in years but I’ m not stupid.

How to remove gloves without contaminating myself was one of the first things I was taught in First Aid. The usefulness of gloves surely depends on using them intelligently.

One thing is apparent, exposure is the major element leading to infection.

If gloves and masks limit exposure then surely that's as helpful as we can expect?

Alongside social distancing, what else is there for now anyway?

I don't quite get what the article has to do with gloves. confused

If you wear gloves while shopping, and don't use hand sanitiser on them, tho, you'll be contaminating your bag and purse and carriers and, possibly, car before you even leave the supermarket.

I'd rather use hand sanitiser, while staying aware of what I'm touching.

I wear gloves and a mask. I put the gloves on when I get to the supermarket and remove them using a wipe to pull the glove off and I then clean my hands with sanitiser. The gloves are put in a small plastic bag and washed when I get home, as are my hands and the plastic bag and also my bunch of keys. There is so much conflicting advice that I just trust my own judgement.

Sounds sensible Barmeyoldbat

GabriellaG54 Thu 14-May-20 23:43:13

How do you take the wipe out of the packet?

GabriellaG54 Thu 14-May-20 23:43:52

If it's already out it dries up and is no use.

GabriellaG54 Thu 14-May-20 23:45:12

I don't bother. Just wash my hands and face with soap when I get in. That's it. I've had it once and unlikely to get it again before I die.

Namsnanny Fri 15-May-20 00:39:53

What's your point GabriellaG54?

GabriellaG54 Fri 15-May-20 00:41:23

Point about what? My last post or the first one?

GabriellaG54 Fri 15-May-20 00:45:06

The first post was really reiterating what scientists have been telling us all along. That gloves do not lessen infection rates as shown by the use of paint in the photo.

Eloethan Fri 15-May-20 00:48:19

FarNorth I agree. You are still touching things and presumably touching your own belongings. I wouldn't bother with gloves. The most important things is to wash your hands or use hand sanitisers.
