Helping the economy.

I had been buying books, don't like using a Kindle, a jigsaw puzzle, various clothes and bits for the garden. In local shops I have been buying a coffee every few days and a take away healthy lunch and plants for the garden. Even bought some diy stuff from my local shops. My habits won't change much once shops are open.

We are splashing out on a lovely tall fence to hide our neighbours whose drive looks like a rubbish dump . It is strewn with bikes , logs , old rugs etc. They have so much they cannot put their cars in the double garage . It will be a pleasure to block them off .

And when I say eating places, I do include the local pubs, if they survive. ?

I think I’ve lost the taste for spending on stuff while we’ve been in lockdown, though I’ve bought bits for the grandsons and a couple of online sales bargains.

I do hanker after some trips away, so we’ll spend on them as soon as it’s safe to. They’ll probably all be in this country for a while.

I’ll give the local eating places, theatres and cinema plenty of custom when the time comes as well.

Let’s hope then that all the stuff that everyone is buying is British!!

Repurpose and recycle is what the planet needs.

We’ve spent lockdown buying soil, plants and seeds along with a few fruit canes, all British. But No we will not Be on a spending spree.

We will probably help the economy by holidaying in the UK for a while.

So, the wet summer will all be down to you, Ann?

We were halfway through doing the lounge when lockdown began and we need loads to finish it off including a bookcase, 2 side chairs, a nest of tables, 2 pouffes and a TV. We will be off to JL too.

Hopefully, the carpet will be laid soon and the TV cabinet will get here eventually from Denmark.

2 seater settee and armchair and new carpet for the living room. Just had a delivery of a carpet runner for the back kitchen---for starters. Bathroom carpets which I can get online.
It's all I want.

I don't actually need anything but can completely see the need to spend money to try to get the economy going again. We're keen to have a short break somewhere before the winter and want to try to help the hospitality industry so will find a nice place somewhere in Scotland to stay and will eat in local cafes and visit museums and galleries and generally splash the cash a wee bit. It's amazing how much we seem to have saved over the lockdown. I had never felt exactly a spendthrift but I must have got through more than I'd realised!

Sadly I have to do all my shopping online, this purchase is from John Lewis and I do realise that it is not helping the retail sector, only manufacturing and distribution .
I am fairly disabled and waiting for a hip replacement, I am also a very old lady ?

Dear annsixty ; With due respect and I always have plenty for everyone, I am not turning your post political and understand that you are looking at the newest rule where we will see non-essential stores/shops opening very soon. I have not made a totally political point I have said however the truth and where I live there are no longer any retail outlets left and with the Marks and Spencers gone that is the last straw.
So like it or not that is the case. It will make no difference to me when non-essential stores open.
I appreciate that you are going to buy a rattan coffee table, which you say you have ordered. (I do wonder is that from a local store or have you ordered on-line) I do hope you will get the best of outdoor weather to enjoy it.
I myself do want a new sofa but it will have to be ordered on-line as there is nowhere around near me to get one.

Not to buy, but really need to get my toenails seen to. They are turning to claws and do need specialist cutting.

Whilst I understand you viewpoint as our own town centre is half closed, I really would like to keep this thread to the point and not turn political.
I do hope you can agree.

Opening non essential shops is still too soon IMO. It s not getting back to normality he just wants to see some shops open. I have not long taken a survey on our particular High Street as from this September the local authority are putting plans forward to pull down most of our High Street and regenerate. Our High Street over the last five years has seen almost all the retail shops close until there is almost nothing else left and the Marks and Spencers closed about two years ago. The only things on our High Street are pound shops and food take aways. I expect when the new plans are put in for the new regeneration it will be for flats or houses. That's what has happened to our High Street it has vanished thanks to governments.

Roman blinds for 2 windows. I've seen nothing on line that I like and so will go to the shops to see some "in the flesh". They're tricky sizes and in difficult to reach spots, so will need to get either DS or MrFixit to install them.

A pair of new sandals - I haven't had much success buying shoes (or clothes) online, I like to try things on before I buy. But then I wonder will we be allowed to try things on in the shops that are opening here in England? Or will the things we try on have to go into quarantine, before someone else can touch them?
