The best thing for me was when DGS ( teenager) turned up at the door bearing a large bag of flour, he knew I hadn’t been able to get any via delivered shopping.?
The other thing was when DD called round on Monday and we sat in the garden with iced drinks and chatted for an hour.

Celebrating my Grandsons Graduation from College, family gathering in the garden.
Today a lovely surprise as the airline I fly with is starting to fly again soon, this means I can get to my house in the UK, even quaranteen for two weeks means I can be there for at least a month, and mouth covering is such a good idea. How I have missed my friends and my house.

I went for a socially distanced walk with my 12 year old granddaughter - in the rain! It was so lovely to see her and we had a long chat abut nothing much at all.

Having a hospital appointment and popping into the shop in the foyer on the way out. Actually got some flour - bonus!

I won £1000 on the Postcode Lottery! My neighbour called me to ask if I played, and told me we had won! I only started 4 months ago!

It seems almost too boring to say that for me it was sitting in the sunshine in my daughter's back garden watching my 5 year old grandson playing with the giant bubble wand I gave him. Just wonderful! Gilly1952 I did have to use the loo (I have IBS) and had discussed that with my daughter. She left all the doors open so I wouldn't have to touch handles and left some Dettol bathroom wipes in the loo, so I wiped seat and flush handle and then washed hands using another wipe to operate the taps. She had put out a towel for me and I put that in the laundry basket. Probably over the top really. Infections are now a maximum of 1/1000 of the population. However, I was following recommendations. SIL is on the board of a group of hospices and they have managed to keep it out - probably because staff are used to shielding patients anyway, and a measure of good luck!

Seeing my son on the front lawn, sitting in the sunshine. Gave him some baby clothes for the new baby due in September. Also a lettuce fresh from the garden.

Being told when I came to myself again on Thursday, that the surgeon had found, on making the incision, that all the trouble was caused by a benign ovarian cyst, so that instead of performing a hysterectomy, he could just remove both ovaries, as the uterus was not filled with fibroids as we all had thought.

Being 68 and finished with the menopause my ovaries are surplus to requirement anyhow, whereas a hysterectomy would have entailed removing the cervix as well, and have taken longer to recover from.

Managed to have a distanced lunch with my daughter in her garage!! Best thing for 3 months!!!

Our house sale went through and was completed yesterday, right up until the solicitor said it was done we thought the buyer might pull out. A lot of house sales have collapsed because of the uncertainty during lockdown.

One day over a week! Seeing my granddaughter born in Perth, Australia on a video call. Sad though that my daughter had an emergency Caesarean section and we can’t go out as planned. Her husband is being wonderful though.
Seeing my other three grandchildren from two different families in the south of England on video calls, too far away for us to visit.

On Tuesday in brilliant sunshine we drove 20 miles to see our eldest granddaughter the day before her 12th birthday. We sat and chatted on their drive and then took her and her sister for a walk to the ice cream van. Sat on the grass and enjoyed our treat. It was a socially distanced visit but blissful even so. Just missed the hugs.

Not the past week but the week before last - my daughter had a beautiful little girl, which we are thrilled about but saddened that she lives overseas so it might be a long time until we meet her.

NannyG123 Fri 05-Jun-20 10:47:29

Seeing 3 of my 4 grandchildren. But on the downside, which is upsetting me today , not seeing my 4yr old grandson as he lives further away. Haven't seen him for 4 months .

I can share your joy Penelope33 - my veg are starting to do things!
My chief joy of the week, however, has been the return of my son and his family after 6 years in China. I was so looking forward to a huge family reunion, but that isn't possible as all my family are scattered around the country. Will have to wait (sigh) a little longer!

visiting DDs (on different day) GS was in a hot tub - he's not aware of social distancing so this was perfect! He was busy throwing wet balls at us though. Then next day visiting 4year old GD. She slowly cam toward us shouting "I'm scared" I asked her what she was scared of - "I just need courage!" Then she was off on the trampoline. Great.

Penelope33 Fri 05-Jun-20 10:35:52

All my broccoli plants have formed good heads and all my cauliflowers have begun to form heads, and after the rain, my pumpkin plants have all brightened up and look promising. Runner beans have started to flower......sigh!!!! Joy!

Irenelily Fri 05-Jun-20 10:33:35

Gilly1952 - my daughter came and we sat in the garden - apart! She went through the kitchen to the downstairs loo and I had left disinfectant etc outside and she wiped down everything. The towel I washed.

optimist Fri 05-Jun-20 10:31:26

well I have enjoyed having friends round to chat in the garden.
But the BEST was listening to the Radio 4 episodes of Girl, Woman Other which I LOVED. every day at lunchtime and again in the evening.

Craftycat Fri 05-Jun-20 10:25:47

The weather!! I have spent all day every day on my sunbed & I am the same colour as if I had just come back from Greece.
It is raining today but the garden needs it.
I have seen all DGC & hopefully will be able to see them on my birthday later this month.

patricia1958 Fri 05-Jun-20 10:16:51

After being in lockdown since 17th march I have 4 fractures of the spine so not very mobile so decided to get a mobility scooter the last came on tuesday I picked 1 and because of the coronavirus motability are doing them quicker then normal so I could have it by next week

HurdyGurdy Fri 05-Jun-20 10:15:13

My granddaughter coming over on Monday and excitedly picking the strawberries that she planted before lockdown, and watching her eating them with cream.

The second good thing happened on the same day. My daughter brought me a diamond painting kit, and I have loved doing it. Very relaxing, and it has kept me from just mindlessly surfing the internet in the evenings. I have almost finished it and am now deciding on my next one

Gilly1952 Fri 05-Jun-20 10:12:21

Some delightful stories here, but can I ask for some advice? I am still very wary about inviting family and friends to my house, even to just sit in the garden - can I ask how all you Gransnetters go on when visitors need to use the toilet, etc? I think this is my main concern, as although I have a downstairs loo, they would still have to come into the house. Am I being over cautious/paranoid? I know my partner is not too happy about me/us receiving visitors just yet. I think I have got so used to staying in my little cocoon since lockdown that I am scared to break free! He has been out to play golf a few times and yesterday had to buy petrol, but I have only been out for a couple of walks! I know everyone thinks differently about the situation, especially my younger son, who is still sulking because I wouldn’t let him visit on Mother’s Day - he cannot understand my concerns.
