The best thing for me was when DGS ( teenager) turned up at the door bearing a large bag of flour, he knew I hadn’t been able to get any via delivered shopping.?
The other thing was when DD called round on Monday and we sat in the garden with iced drinks and chatted for an hour.

Not very original, but without a doubt meeting up with my daughter and grandson yesterday for the first time since lockdown. He’s 18 months old and before all this I was looking after him for her one day a week, and we’d developed a real bond: being separated from him hurt, physically, like grief. We managed to have a lovely couple of hours together, mostly in the park. He was a bit shy to start with, so we managed to maintain a safe distance, but it was clear by the time I left that he remembered who I was and was happy that I was there. It’s left me with a warm glow and put the default smile back in my eyes.

Best thing for me this past week was our daughter coming to see us yesterday. We spent about 4 hours together in the garden - eating, chatting. Loved it - such a shame we couldn't give each other a hug

Seeing real people is scarily uplifting. Tuesday, last day of nice weather here, went round to a friend's garden for coffee and cake. Hadn't seen them face to face since January as we were on holiday until just before lockdown. Still haven't seen the new bathroom they had done in February ( they moved in the previous December)which apparently is fabulous...they are lucky with a huge back garden reached round the side of the house and and outside loo they were going to get demolished but are now having second thoughts.
Also watching baby bluetits getting ready to leave the best by looking out, I think they must have gone late yesterday or very early today as we missed them going.
Small steps

Seeing a short video of my 4 month gd being woken by her mum for her evening feed. She smiled the loveliest of smiles and started to giggle!

Seeing my daughter for the first time since she had the virus, thankfully on the long long road to recovery. Also seeing our beautiful granddaughter and of course son in law. Was awful not to hug!

Also my electric bike arrived, no holiday for my birthday, so new bike instead.

Your quilt is beautiful TheOddBird?

So many happy and positive messages, mainly a simple sitting in the garden with family ( which still isn’t all that simple to do)?but also lovely news about new grandchildren being born, relief at medical procedures/ops that now can take place too.
Only one negative post on here ......which in itself is a positive thing on GN.?

Theoddbird, congratulations on your beautiful quilt.

Unable to see DS, DDiL, DGS & DGD as they live too far away to pop round to see but watched a little video of my lovely DGD washing her hands before going into Nursery. So miss seeing her but loved watching her. So the best thing for sure.

Carmel that is the most wonderful news.
?
Mine is wonderful too. After many worries and sleepless nights we were told that the breast lump my daughter found is not cancerous and just a fatty lump. I was so scared that any treatment would be withheld at this point, so Carmel, your fantastic news has made me both more happy and weepy.

Loving and caring thoughts go out to anyone not so very lucky as my family and Carmel.
I would give up everything to keep my family safe. If only it was possible!

A socially distanced picnic with my DD and wee GS. He had his first ever paddle in the beautiful Strangford lough and we ate our picnic while watching the wildlife. Felt like some semblance of normality.

Finally signing off the construction work on an accessible extension for my husband. Two cherries on the cake being the plumber can come next Tuesday to fit the wet room & I have electrician and decorator lined up. Light at the end of the tunnel!

Seeing one of my sons and his family on Tuesday, in his garden, as it was his wife’s birthday. Hard not to hug them all tho .....

Theoddbird Fri 05-Jun-20 09:37:44

This week I finished a hand pieced, over papers, patchwork quilt. It has around 2400 pieces. I have been working on it, on and off, for 7 years. The look down gave me the insentive to push myself to finish it.

I’m still buzzing from being able to see my grandson on his 9th birthday, and have a cup of tea and birthday cake in the garden, even though it was for only half-an-hour because my son-in-law couldn’t join us as he is shielding.

I revived my interest in my sewing machine.

Sitting in DD2's garden and seeing her and GC for first time in 11 weeks, such a simple thing meant such a lot.

annecordelia Fri 05-Jun-20 09:29:29

Great news x

annecordelia Fri 05-Jun-20 09:28:38

Sitting in my daughter's garden on Monday, at a safe distance from my grandchildren. I took my own sandwich but did have a cup of tea...

travelsafar Fri 05-Jun-20 09:27:05

My beloved sister coming round on Tuesday afternoon for tea and scones with homemade gooseberry jam. We sat SD and had four hours of beautiful sunshine and catching up. It was so hard not to hug and kiss though. In the end she had to go as she needed the loo after several cups of tea!!! smile
