After nearly 50 years of marriage I now know that I got it wrong right from the start. I should have copied my older DSIL - she knew what to do.
Shortly after her wedding she ironed husband trousers with the creases down the sides. He took over and she never ironed again.
Although taught to cook by her wonderful mother she never quite mastered the art and DBIL did most of the cooking until their son grew up and became a chef. Okay, she did do,the housework but MIL would go round and clean everything to her own standard.
She has never hosted a family gathering or Christmas meal.
She and her family often used to come and stay with us as we lived by the sea. They never brought anything, not even a bottle of wine. We were never been invited back even though they lived near London and would have been great sightseeing base.
She is a nice person, but has 'used' others all her life.

Would you have been happy to be a user? I don't think it's in your nature. We are what we are. Most of us are givers and that's why the few users get away with it.

I’ve often said that I’m coming back as someone who can’t ???

My SIL used to walk out of the door to go on their frequent holidays when her DCs were little and leave her mum to clean up and pick up all the piles of discarded uniforms, change beds and thoroughly clean. Her mum used to say she can't come back to that mess.DH once had to go and switch her alarm off and he came back shocked at the state she had left it,and annoyed that she expected /let his mum sort it out.She was a stay at home mum too not out working .MIL was lovely, and would always help me too if asked .And I guess it was her own daughter but it meant I was reluctant to ask for anything because she got asked by SIL to do so much.
I used to wear myself to a frazzle-more fool me !- working, and sorting all the stuff for camping holidays and making sure everything was clean and tidy before we went .I just couldn't have left all the dirty pots and clothes and unemptied bins for anyone else let my mum or MIL.

There are those who give and those who take - looks as if she is a taker!

It may sound quite tempting but seriously, would you want to be known as that helpless, hopeless and totally useless? Nope ?

We have probably all known a few takers. Just best to keep away from them.

One of my uncles always took up the hems of his trousers (he was height-challenged) as he was so unhappy with how my auntie did with the first pair she tried. grin

Auntie was super competent other than that, tho, and excellent at cooking and baking.

I guess some people are just bl**dy lazy and don't care what other people think.
And "YES" quizqueen people definitely get away with what others let them do!
