My Peculiar Home Habits

Don't get me started on dishwasher loading! DH is an engineer yet he doesn't seem to have clue about logical, far less, efficient loading of crockery. I'm always having to reload it all.
Am feeling happier today. Its not the turn of the depressing pants. Hooray!

I must admit to having a mug foible. All the boring straight sided ones go at the back of the cupboard. I don’t want to open the cupboard and see boring straight sided mugs (who on earth bought all these boring mugs in the first place? Not me!?). The top rack of the dishwasher has to be loaded with glasses on the right and cups on the left, which means that when DH has loaded it, I will unload it and do it again. As for everything else, it can, and frequently does, go to hell on a handcart!

GagaJo ever thought that your neighbour might have dementia or just a memory or nervous problem? My dad used to drive all the family mad with his locking up habits, the door handles pulled so many times, the gas nobs checked, the taps turned on and off, the curtains had to be overlapping. He is now in a care home with dementia, no more locking up to be done he is in his own world and in a way at peace. Have patience with peoples little habits most of them can't stop it or help it, but I do agree its very hard to live with 24 hours a day. My husband hangs the towels different to me and so when I see them I rehang them my way ( that's a song!)

Oh I do that too shysal .

A few years ago we were working with a French engineer and he had never come across. “To do” list .... he said that he thought it was a brilliant idea and never stopped talking about his “toe doe” lists for weeks after. Now, at work we always have a “toe doe” list on the white board !

I've noticed I match pegs hanging out washing

Enjoy making lists and will sometimes add something I have already done, just for the pleasure of crossing it off!

Back left hob.

When eating something on toast with a knife and fork I have to cut it into equal width strips which are then cut into neat squares which are eaten in order.

A meal is laid out on the plate with protein at 8 o'clock, carb at 12 and veg at 4, with sauce or gravy in the centre.

Volume button can only show an even number.

When sitting in my living room facing the garden I count the steps several times a day (15), also the bathroom tiles when in the bath.

Used to choose colour of clothes pegs to match the garment, but annoyed myself so much that I bought a new set all the same colour. However the items still have to be hung in a certain order!

I could go on and on!

Surprisingly I do the bare minimum of housework. Things have to be in their right place but I don't care if they are covered in dust!

I was reflecting on this thread and I realised that I count...
- Mashed potatoes - drain, salt and pepper then 30 mashes, milk then 30 mashes, butter then 30 mashes. Serve.
- Feeding the cats - mashing their food, 30 mashes with a fork for each bowl.
- Cleaning my teeth - count to 30, for each section of teeth (back, side, inside, outside, front etc).
I count for other tasks too (gosh, I sound bonkers).

Favourite cooker ring - right, back ...

I’m learning to live with cobwebs. I’m not working at the moment and my cleaner doesn’t want to come so I am in charge.
She hoovers the spiders up and I go carefully round them. I do get rid of some webs , I’m not Miss. Havisham! I do tell them to get out of the way if they aren’t cooperating.???

I cannot tolerate dirty mirrors...that includes a single fingerprint. ??‍♀️

Jane10, I too make sure my crockery takes its turn. Sadly I feel the same about the bedding, woe betide my old boy if he messes up the system by folding towels the opposite way to I do - they won’t fit properly on the pile in the cupboard that way! Oh dear I definitely need to get out more!

Off topic but I do wish the (now adult) children would behave like adults.

Top right back hob, became a habit to use the back hobs first because of the (now adult) children. I don’t put any lights on in the evening and the neighbours keep asking if I’ve been out but I am reading my kindle. I’ve started to give imaginary answers when they ask me daft questions and now I’m starting to worry that I might comment out loud. No, you know I’ve not been out because I am vulnerable.
I ask the washing machine which programme it would like me to use and I am ling up the washing on the line in the order of undressing.

Even though I can see the knobs on my gas hob are all switched off I have to twiddle each one to double check before going to bed.

I prefer top right hob but am with you on the double light switches youngerthan!!

Blister strips of tablets have to be trimmed down when tablets have been removed. Labels have to be to the front in food cupboards. Clothes in my wardrobe have to be grouped by colour. When I play patience and for example, I have a stack headed by a queen with cards going down to the ace, and I take half the cards away to complete another stack, I feel guilty. No I don’t think any of your habits are strange, they all seem perfectly normal to me. (I don’t worry about doors being locked, my husband checks them —several— umpteen times).

The strange thing is, it’s only the back door that I check, the other doors could be unlocked or even open as I rarely check them at all.No doubt Freud would have a field day with it.

I do too MissA I often have a running commentary going through the house (as though I’m talking to a studio audience). I think it’s because I don’t get much in the way of conversation or else I’m barking mad .

I'd say by my neighbour's standards you're positively dilatory lemongrove. He has a ritual of checking his backdoor handle at night that involves him repeatedly rattling it for a minimum of five minutes. I can hear it wherever I am in my house, he does it so loudly. I'm surprised he doesn't have to replace it at least once a year, given how forcefully he does it.

I just make polite conversation really.
Give them a bit of reassurance, sort of thing.

I am becoming obsessed with drying the sink, I can't bear to see drops of water on it, but everyone does this, no?

The stairs benefit from spraying with Zoflora and a squeegee every week
But no, other than that I'm not at all neurotic ?

I check the door several times, after tea, before I shower, when I make the evening milky drink, before I go to bed.
