Labe Sifre, It must be love.

I was a late comer to having a record player. I wanted one for years but my Dad bought an reel to reel tape recorder. We had to record Top of the Pops and Radio Luxembourg.

Also thinking of those times when I was glued to my transistor radio waiting for the charts on a Sunday evening. I can even remember the theme tune . smile

Music loving, not living

gillybob Thu 16-Jul-20 22:29:59

This thread is “ proper lush” . I was born in 1962 but brought up in a music living family . I remember almost all of these songs so well. smile

Glad All Over by the Dave Clark Five.
Freeman's Catalogue sold 6 singles for £1.

janeainsworth Thu 16-Jul-20 20:51:53

Mine was FBI by the Shadows. I thought Hank was so cool ? I must have been 12 at the time.
I think it was 6/3d from Neild & Hardy in Stockport.
You could go into a little booth and listen to the record before you made your purchase.

Drum1234 Thu 16-Jul-20 20:41:57

Mine was Suspicious Minds, by Elvis. My dad wasn't very impressed with my choice - he liked classical music, and folk. So do I now, but I still think 60's and 70's music is the best. Lovely memories.

Mine was the Hippy Hippy Shake by the Swinging Blue Jeans. I think it was about 1964. I can't remember the cost 2s and 6d maybe? Played it on a little Dansette record player. Brilliant, happy times.

grannypiper Thu 16-Jul-20 19:58:09

alassinsane Thu 16-Jul-20 19:48:19

My Sweet Lord by George Harrison.

Doodle Thu 16-Jul-20 19:37:00

She loves you by the Beatles. Plus their first LP which my cousin bought for me. Lovely memories , thank you

TwiceAsNice Thu 16-Jul-20 19:31:25

I had 6 singles bought for me for me for my 11th birthday with a little record player, you had to play them singly as well. I’ll try to remember them:
Anyone who had a heart Cilla Black
Downtown Petula
Clark
I feel fine The Beatles
Twinkle Terry
Herman’s Hermits but I can’t remember which one
A whiter shade of pale I think by the Kinks
Loved the Stones rather than the Beatles when I was a bit older and also remember having an LP of the Batchelors from my dad because he liked them as well . Happy Days

Megs36 Thu 16-Jul-20 19:25:47

PS mine was by Guy Mitchell, I was in love......

Grammaretto Thu 16-Jul-20 19:25:46

I can remember most of them. Everley Brothers (Cathy's Clown), Ricky Nelson (Hello Mary-Lou), Dusty Springfield (I only want to be with you).
I had Terry by Twinkle. It may still be in the attic - or is that another thread? grin
I had Come Outside by Mike Sarne and Wendy Richard. I knew Mike's brother so he seemed like family.

We used to buy ex-juke box records which had no centre so had to balance them carefully on the turn table.

Freeandeasy Thu 16-Jul-20 19:21:03

Sorry about the spelling - Rosemary not Rosemary’s.

Freeandeasy Thu 16-Jul-20 19:18:13

Sorry - I’m getting carried away now - “Love Grows Where my Rosemary’s Grows” - I danced to that when I was 16 at the school disco. Spotify, has a cover version, but I found the original!! Da, Di a Di a Da, Di, a Di a da ....... what memories! Keep em coming!!!

Kate1949 Thu 16-Jul-20 19:14:11

Yes Chewbacca It's amazing isn't it?

Kate1949 Thu 16-Jul-20 19:13:08

All these lovely songs. I'd forgotten about many of them, including Elusive Butterfly which is lovely.

Chewbacca Thu 16-Jul-20 19:12:20

Any one else, when reading through these songs, able to immediately remember the lyrics and can sing some, if not all of the songs mentioned? I've forgotten loads of things but the minute the song is mentioned, it's there, in your mind, as fresh as when you first heard it.

Freeandeasy Thu 16-Jul-20 19:09:25

Oh yes - “Young Girl” - gosh I loved that song. I didn’t have the record but always turned the sound up on my “tranny” when it came on. Donny Osmond “Puppy Love” - I think I’m going to tune into Spotify and reminisce!!!

Nortsat Thu 16-Jul-20 19:06:38

Co Co by the Sweet in 1971.

My first album was Nicely Out of Tune by Lindisfarne also bought in 1971.
By which time I had left the Sweet behind, but I still love Lindisfarne and the LP is in a box in our attic, nearly 50 years later. ??

MayBee70 Thu 16-Jul-20 19:05:01

....no: Susan Maughan moved to Birmingham when she was 15: that’s where they wanted the plaque to be. And Bobby’s Girl reached no 6 in the Norwegian charts also.

Megs36 Thu 16-Jul-20 19:04:03

I think mine was She wears red feathers and a Hulihuli skirt some time in the late fifties, my dad threatened to throw it on the fire.
