Chewbacca: I’m sure I saw a post on Facebook yesterday saying that Susan Maughans’s birthplace in Birmingham (?) was deserving of a blue plaque and that Bobby’s Girl got to no 3 in the hit parade. I’m going to google it now.
Sunday Afternoon by the Kinks. And, yes, I too know all the words to “Band of Gold”. Similarly with “Build me up Buttercup” by The Equals. Those were the days!
I'm singing all of these as I'm going through the list. 'Young Girl' is a real classic and a favourite of mine. The only one I don't know is 'Elusive Butterfly' The first record I bought was 'I Only Want to Be with You' by Dusty Springfield. 1964. I would have been 9 at the time. I didn't have a record player but my brother did. It was one of those you could stack about 6 records on at a time under the arm.
Wooden Heart by Elvis. I listened to my DSis records but I really loved that song. I must have been about 13. It's very sentimental and has a verse in German. So sophisticated.. Muss i' denn, muss i' denn zum Staedtele hinaus, Staedtele hinaus Und du mein Schatz, bleibst hier?
Woolworths copy version of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, I think the singer was called Paul Rich. Still have it in a cupboard upstairs. I didn`t even have a record player, took it to my friend`s house to play it. When I did get a record player, aged 19, my first single I bought was Cliff Richard singing When the Girl in Your Arms is the Girl in Your Heart.
