Pre mask shopping - will you?

I was talking to my niece yesterday and she was telling me about lots of her friends hitting the shops before they are condemned to shopping in a mask.

Will you?

This conversation is completely lost on me. If there’s even the remotest chance that only one person will be prevented from catching COVID then we should all be wearing them and the government should enforce it rigidly. If you do t want to wear one then stay at home.

X post Farmor

Farmor and Lucca

I think it was craftycat who posted at 12-11 today, not craftyone.

Farmor15 Thu 23-Jul-20 13:52:13

Sorry - craftyone hasn’t come back, it was craftycat - easy to get names mixed up!

Farmor15 Thu 23-Jul-20 13:48:00

Lucca - craftycat came back at 12-11 today (previous page) and explained she’s claustrophobic.

Here in Ireland face coverings in shops (for customers and staff, unless behind screen) became compulsory last week and I’ve noticed most are complying. Some are wearing the visor type, which may be easier for those who find masks a problem.

I really don't understand the fuss people are been asked to wear a mask to go to the shops for an hour not a hazmat suit, and surely all the people downloading exemptions forms will be making it more difficult for people with genuine reasons not to wear a mask to be believed
Some of the reasons I've heard from people who are refusing to wear them are frankly insane

BettyBoop49 Thu 23-Jul-20 13:09:33

Im with you jaylucy!
An ex nurse, i really could not understand why we didn't have to wear them from the get-go in March

Greeneyedgirl Thu 23-Jul-20 13:05:09

I went to my GP today.
I was surprised when I got into his surgery he pulled his mask down below his nose, whilst I was completely masked up. Naughty boy.........

Teacheranne

Unfortunately I have a couple of friends who have refused to wear masks so have downloaded a form saying they are exempt for medical reasons. Neither of them have a medical condition, they just don't like wearing them! The form looks very official but it is not from any authority and you just add your own details and wave it in the face of anyone who challenges you!

I would not want such people as friends to be honest, not only being selfish but cheating too!

4allweknow Thu 23-Jul-20 12:56:32

It's this "no one will tell me what to do" attitude that prevails amongst some folk. Many countries use masks even before Covid19, they know the value of their filtering ability eg traffic fumes or if they have a cold. Will be wearing a mask as and when required but not rushing to shops.

If the elastic is tight enough your mask will not slip down over your nose unless you have been very sparing of the cloth when cutting it out. It should be 7" from top to bottom before you fold the pleats and after you have hemmed it.

If you buy a mask, it will fit, as they have a flexible piece of plastic at the top that you bend to fit your nose.

newnanny Thu 23-Jul-20 12:30:45

A mask is really no big deal. I am asthmatic and mananage a mask just whist in a shop. Surely anything is better than catching Covid 19.

Lucca Thu 23-Jul-20 12:24:40

I’ve scrolled up and down but has Craftyone come back at all ?

Nannan2 Thu 23-Jul-20 12:23:32

Carrying an exemption? Where on earth do you get that then as the gov't never mentioned that in any of the tv appearances? The masks make me very dry in the mouth as i already do with fibromyalgia & then i start to cough but i still struggle on and wear one regardless! I just take a bottle of water out with me in case it gets too bad. My son also has asthma as he was born early with chronic lung disease but even hes opting to wear one when college goes back (he's staying in till then!) As he said "if you've got a condition already you would want to wear one"!

Furret Thu 23-Jul-20 12:22:04

Very happy to know these refuseniks are staying away from shops. Reminds me of my late MiL saying she would never use decimal coins!

maureen118 Thu 23-Jul-20 12:17:23

....a friend in Scotland who is exempt from wearing a mask for health reasons has had to wear one .... as the bus would not stop to pick her up at her bus stop !

Taichinan Thu 23-Jul-20 12:16:34

Oh MawB that cartoon made me laugh out loud! Saw a couple with their masks like that in our local Tesco. That both had such long noses you'd have thought they'd have been only too happy to hide them!! Seriously though, I truly cannot understand the reluctance to mask up, uncomfortable/inconvenient though it may be. Psychologically, surely it's good to know that you're doing at least something to combat this awful bug.

Craftycat Thu 23-Jul-20 12:16:34

Noticed that no staff were wearing a mask today. Resumably they will have to tomorrow too?

Nannan2 Thu 23-Jul-20 12:13:57

Thing is theres so many reasons people are allowed not to wear them for, and how are they supposed to prove it if its not a visible reason or whatever? Anyone can carry an inhaler container around & 'say' theyre asmathic(or whatever) and no one would know if its true? How are shops/buses etc supposed to 'let people off' from wearing one? Do the folk have to have a medical letter or something on them to vouch for this? Its all just silly how government make up all the rules but dont give real info to back them up?!?

Craftycat Thu 23-Jul-20 12:11:39

Yes. I did a big shop today as I dread wearing a mask. I am claustrophobic & it will be very difficult. I wore one briefly when having my hair cut on Tuesday & it was awful. Luckily my hairdresser is a friend so suggested I held a teatowel over my face instead which was better.
I hope DH will step up & do shopping but heaven only knows what he will bring home. A lot of wine & very little else I suspect.

MawB Thu 23-Jul-20 12:11:26

I find breathing very difficult behind a mask I shall be carrying an exemption and a copy of the 2005 Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights regarding 'Consent' which states I cannot be forced to do something without my consent

Does that apply to seatbelts and motor cycle helmets too NannyC2 ?

Possibly nobody can be forced to let you on to a bus or train or into a shop either? Or into a doctors surgery or (as I have just been) to pay for Hattie’s treatment at the vet?
Ridiculous!

Callistemon Thu 23-Jul-20 12:07:14

MissAdventure

If masks were banned there would probably be protesters fighting for the right to wear them.

Yes!

That's the British for you!!

Nannan2 Thu 23-Jul-20 12:05:00

Theyve probably been told not to challenge them because of what happened to that french bus driver- he refused to let someone on & got beaten to death for it! Something else for me to worry about for my bus driver son ??

Callistemon Thu 23-Jul-20 12:04:01

The mask is to protect other people from you, craftyone!
