Just that it is so hot here, it’s cruel and if a weather person says it’s great weather I’m going to punch them right on the nose!

MissAdventure Wed 12-Aug-20 15:25:45

I've no idea.
It's as if people thinks stern telling off will make us agree that the heat is wonderful.

jane1956

we get 10+ months of grey so 3 days heat is nothing let us who do like it enjoy the short heat please

Why do people who have a different view so often feel they are being got at!

MissAdventure Wed 12-Aug-20 14:55:51

I really don't want to allow myself to sweat on the bus to work, thanks.

GrannyAnnie2010 Wed 12-Aug-20 14:52:12

There is no need to fear hot weather, for your body burns up lots of calories trying to keep you cool.

Many people seem to hate sweating, when that is the very process which cools you down.

I say allow yourself to sweat, then sit back and enjoy the coolness with plenty of water to drink. Alternatively, sit with your feet in a bowl of cold water.

Asp. I wrote that I found weather presenters annoying because they cheerfully say, oh it’s going to be lovely today hot and sunny, whilst stood in their air conditioned offices. Try being out here first! ?

Paperbackwriter Wed 12-Aug-20 14:34:07

It's lovely here in Cornwall! Warm but nowhere near unbearable. It's cloudy just now so sitting out in the garden is great without blazing sun. Love it! Tomorrow I drive to London for a week - will be interesting to see just how hot it is there. The air con will have to be on all the way though as I'll have the cat with me.

Trisha57 Wed 12-Aug-20 14:31:46

My tortoise has the right idea. When it got really hot this afternoon she went and sat in the middle of her water dish. She's now retreated to the shade of her kennel (she's far too big for anything that's sold as a "tortoise house"!!) grin

BlueSky Wed 12-Aug-20 14:31:03

Sparkle I might just give your suggestion a try even though I don't like the idea of windows closed. I tried everything else but still find it hot indoors with fans on. Must be exceptionally hot and humid!!

pollyperkins Wed 12-Aug-20 14:18:57

I think we will have to get used to it as very hot days will be more frequent with global warming.
Its far too hot for me - I'm sitting indoors next to a fan (which is using electricity so contributing to global warming.Except we have solar panels which are working flat out at present. )

Froglady Wed 12-Aug-20 13:51:20

I've finally been able to sit in the sun for a few hours today and it has made all the difference to me. I love the sun and feel better for being to sit outside rather than be stuck indoors all the time because it hasn't been that warm up here.

My son gets annoyed with the weather presenters. They always stand to the left of the map of the U.K. and very often obliterate Wales altogether.
Given that we live in South Wales, it does seem sometimes that you have to guess what sort of weather is forecast. I do admit that living on the coast we do have a lot of rain and wind, far more than most areas. smile

BlueSky and now it's a very hot and humid day. I'm staying put, blinds closed, doors and windows opens, fans on

Doors and windows should be closed until the evening or you're letting in the hot air.

But Sparkle that's what they do in the Med, shutters closed but windows open or it would be unbearable!

I was married to a Greek for years. That is not what the Greeks do. The windows facing the sun are kept closed until the sun moves round later in the day, otherwise what temperature do you think the air will be that you are letting in? Trust me, it works. All windows and doors open first thing in the morning and later in the evening.

It’s 23C here in Glasgow with a light breeze. OH is reading in his hammock and I am about to water the plants in pots as we haven’t had rain for a while.
Over on the east coast apparently they have had an overnight deluge.
Hate it when the London centric news assumes that what they are experiencing applies to the whole of the U.K.

Witzend Wed 12-Aug-20 13:32:39

It’s a dirty word nowadays (salt, that is) but if you’re sweating a lot and feeling very tired, it might help.

When we lived in the Middle East, everyone but children took salt tablets during the extremely hot and humid months - dispensers were provided by the company.

I remembered this a few years ago when we were on hols in Darwin, N Oz, during a hot and very humid season. I was virtually wringing my hair out after 10 minutes out of doors. There was a lot or urging to drink water, but nobody mentioned salt.

Feeling absolutely exhausted and wrung out (in both senses) and having remembered the salt tablets, I put extra salt on my chips at lunchtime (choice was quiche or buffalo pie with chips!) and felt miles better in the afternoon.

We were expecting thunder storms and showers between 2 and 4pm, noW they are saying from 6 pm all through the night, at this rate we won’t get it at all.

Needless to say it’s a cloudless blue sky and scorchio again, but the washing is almost dry!

Our thermometer is in the sun on the window and it says 40 degrees,
and no breeze.

silverlining48 Wed 12-Aug-20 13:20:55

Rain is expected for quite a few days, and temperature goes down from tomorrow so we will/ might miss this when it’s gone. Actually though I like a sunny day this has just been too too much.

EllanVannin Wed 12-Aug-20 13:16:52

It's not overly hot here, a typical summers day here in the NW on-sea. Cooler indoors with a gentle through-breeze where two windows are open in opposite directions.
As long as you don't do anything too strenuous you'll be okay.

I appreciate that it's much hotter inland than on the coast, but it's at least bearable here.

I had to take the outside thermometer indoors yesterday afternoon as the mercury was right at the top at 120F .
I have just looked & it is nearly there again today but rain expected tomorrow!

MissAdventure Wed 12-Aug-20 13:00:31

I wish Australia would keep it to itself.

Juicylucy Wed 12-Aug-20 12:57:44

This is Australian heat, I’ve spent few summers there at my dds. I like it, as there are ways to cool down. But it is hard to sleep so sticky.

JenniferEccles Wed 12-Aug-20 12:55:22

I have wondered the same thing Sparklefizz !

I think it probably is because we are older.

I do remember my parents and grandparents complaining about the heat years ago yet I loved it!

silverlining48 Wed 12-Aug-20 12:54:34

It’s now 40. Impossible to do anything. I have a cold wet towel round my neck. Only have one fan....

grandtanteJE65 Wed 12-Aug-20 12:53:01

It's only 32 degrees here. You lucky, luckly people.

I adore the hot weather.
