Another scam.....

Just been alerted to a possible scam by my sister to do with Blackbaurd hack. Two people she knows received letters from The Donkey Trust advising them of a breach of security. Neither of them has ever contacted or given donations to this organisation. Be vigilant.

Ages ago I was rung by a building society- not one I have any association with so I just went down the old lady route saying- building- I do not need any building work done but maybe a plumber but not just yet. That got rid of them.

I have such a good call blocker now even friends get irritated.

remember they can keep the line open when telling you to ring the number on the back o your bank/credit card.
use a different phone i poss.
or ring someone else in between.
be very careful.
also of hacking into solicitors' email and re-directing money for house purchase etc.
always check by phone the account details and then send a random sum, under a pound, and ask solicitors office to tell you the exact figure. before transferring full sum.

Several years ago my credit card company phoned. They started asking me for my security details and I refused because I couldn't be sure it was them.
We were busy getting ready for a holiday and when we reached the airport, I went to duty free - my card had been stopped so it had been the credit card company! In my defence, it was a very badly handled call.

I had two scam email today:
‘Your emails have been quarantined please enter account details...’
‘Your direct debit for TV licence has expired, you only have one day to rectify this, please enter account.....’

The one I find a pain is car tax, I have to note when it’s due, it was easier with the little disc on the windscreen.

Please say hang on a minute and put the handset under a couple of pillows and leave it.
This gives others a bit of peace and the scammers supervisor will not be best pleased to see one of employees on the phone for a long time,without any financhial return.

Just rang my credit card provider and it is a scam....

Poppyred she didn't ask for info and did tell you to contact your card provider.
If I were you, I'd contact your provider at the number on your card - possibly on a different phone or after making a quick call to the speaking clock or whatever.

NatWest told me that they never sent automated telephone messages, so I ignored them.
Then they stopped my Debit Card, when I phoned them they said that they had sent me automated telephone calls about a problem.
Duh...

Once while doing my grocery online order I kept going back into the order in quick succession. It was late at night and I was called by the card providers alerting me to the fact.

My bank, who I've been with for over 40 years, said that they never phone customers with automated messages. I recently received one saying there had been fraudulent activity on my account. I put the phone down and rang them on the number I have for them. I explained and they said 'Oh yes that was us'.

I had a letter from my bank about a possible fraudulent transaction. It wasn't a scam and neither was the transaction a scam but I was glad the bank was being vigilant. The bank said they always wrote rather than phone.

Poppyred, don't always assume it is a scam call. It depends on what the caller asks you to do.
I got what I thought was a scam email from Amex, telling me there had been suspicious activity on my card. Rather than use the link given, I used the contact no. on the back of my card to phone Amex. The first thing the advisor said was, Are you calling about the fraudulent transaction on your card?.

It turned out that someone in New York, had been trying to by pornographic videos using my card details! My card was cancelled immediately.
