We all avoided COVID but DD came close to being collateral damage. Three pieces of advice for GPs. 1) If someone is losing blood always order a blood test 2) When you do not order the blood test for 2 months and the result then shows the patient's blood is virtually iron-free, do not say to the patient that they could have a fatal heart attack at any moment, it very nearly caused it. 3) Do not tell someone who lives alone to take themselves to A&E immediately if they have said heart attack, faint/blackout, or feel very dizzy. They are unlikely to be able to do so.
Anaemia is a common problem and easily treated, but as we now know, it can be fatal if not treated. DD is well on the way to recovery, but she is looking for a new GP.
