'U' or 'Non U'. What would the Mitfords think of the new rules?

I think I easily qualify "as" the live in staff as I seem to do most of the work around here so does that count as being very "U"? As for Lady Amelia's beautifully decorated table, a bowl of tacos, a few candles and a couple deer antlers did not impress me one bit.

Trisher my freezer is more than chaste, it is downright frigid, despite being upright. (I think there is another thread somewhere about a documentary on Ch 4 on that subject )

merlotgranmy freezer assures me it's "chaste" if not "chest", does that count?

Seven U’s and one Non-U. shock grin

I’m more fascinated by Amelia Windsor, 39th in line to the throne. I need to find out just where I am in terms of the throne. ?

I was doing to well on the non-U list until I got to bare feet, I only wear anything on my feet if I absolutely have to, so pleased that a bought a plain mask otherwise that would be another one and my kitchen is clean enough for me. Thinking of some of the real upper-class people I've encountered they really don't give two hoots what anyone else thinks! I say real, as opposed to the would-like-to-bes who take their lead from Tatler.

I don't know what "non u" means, but I'm guessing that shows I'm non u myself.

Oldwoman70 Tue 01-Sept-20 13:58:21

4 U and 1 non U Don't know what that means for me! I'm another baffled by the "new soap"

Anniebach Tue 01-Sept-20 13:47:21

2 U - chaste no choice & photographs

2 non U. - dogs sleep on my bed and dirty kitchen until
Granddaughter comes up

Couldn't be bothered to count but will continue to wear a floral home made mask, and use hankies.

merlotgran Tue 01-Sept-20 13:23:57

Love the typo, trisher. If it was a chaste freezer you would score two U points!

I didn't get the new soap thing either. My father was very U in his habits (if not his money) and used to stick bits of old bars of soap together to make a new one. Never worked, never lathered. grin

trisher Tue 01-Sept-20 13:19:09

merlotgran I think chast freezers are "U"because you can get a whole deer in one grin. Not to mention the gran who fell in trying to get the peas out the bottom!

Maggiemaybe Tue 01-Sept-20 13:03:23

7 of each for me. I haven’t claimed the “new soap” that would have tipped the balance as I haven’t a clue what it means. grin

Goodbyetoallthat Tue 01-Sept-20 12:54:07

Tapas is non U shock ? I will have to refer to them as "posh snacks" in future.

Blinko Tue 01-Sept-20 12:47:52

6 U and 2 non U, including hugging (parents are deceased) ACs and GCs. Like others on here, I'm not quite sure where that leaves any of us...

NfkDumpling Tue 01-Sept-20 12:42:10

I only manage two U's and one non-U. I think it says I'm very boring.

Jaxjacky Tue 01-Sept-20 12:39:06

9 U and 4 non u, mostly things before covid.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 01-Sept-20 12:33:53

I score 4 of each - not sure what that says about me. I've still got hankies (tissues if I have a cold) and use cash for small purchases.

trisher Tue 01-Sept-20 11:49:49

5 U, 4Non U. Although if you count "Hugging your parents" because I have hugged my sons and my parents are dead it's 5 each. Mind the 'using a hanky and not a tissue" is a bit outdated. Does anyone have hankies these days? I've got two unopened packs in a drawer, given to my mum as a present at some point.
Some of the"U"s you really need cash for and I don't think that was an element in the original. You could be "posh" and poor.

henetha Tue 01-Sept-20 11:41:54

7 U and 3 non U. Not sure what this says about me.

merlotgran Tue 01-Sept-20 11:40:41

I wonder why chest freezers are considered 'U'? Is it because in true Jilly Cooper fashion you should still have the ancient clunking one you inherited when you got married?

I changed to a fridge freezer (with drawers) when I could no longer reach the bottom of our chest freezer to sweep up the peas that had escaped because the clothes peg had fallen off the folded over top of the bag. grin

Nortsat Tue 01-Sept-20 11:34:55

8 U, 2 non U.

However, if you saw my lifestyle you would quickly conclude that there’s nothing U about it.
Although I do plan to have tinned soup for lunch...

kittylester Tue 01-Sept-20 11:24:04

I got 4 u and 3 non u - dont know whether to be pleased or not!! grin

Back to the ironing!!

Scroll down a bit to get the lists.

I can tick 12 'U' but only 4 'Non U' so does that mean I'm veering towards upper class living? shock hmm

I thought the upper classes always threw an extra dog on the bed when nights got chilly. Now it's considered non U to allow a Jack Russell to burrow beneath the duvet.

I daren't tell Peggy. grin
