Hello! As I said, I'm new.
I joined today. Not a Gran (or a Grandad), but then I'm not a Mum either, and I'm on Mumsnet.
So. Show me around please!

I'm a bit puzzled at your interest in Gransnet. You're not a Gran or Grandad or a Mum. Tell us why you're interested in GN

I'm the same, not a mum or gran, but have nieces and nephews. And I like contributing to the threads if I feel I have something to say.

BlueSky Wed 16-Sept-20 10:55:22

Lisa enough I'm going to have an accident! grin

Callistemon Wed 16-Sept-20 10:54:51

Oh, Lisagran

I didn't think until you said!
But it is true, although I doubt they knew back in those days
blush

Yes, and who was Fanny by Gaslight?

Lisagran Wed 16-Sept-20 10:51:55

Fanny and Cox - clutches pearls again!

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sept-20 10:49:19

Didn't the name Fanny become a euphemism due to the novel 'Fanny Hill'? Off to Google...

Callistemon Wed 16-Sept-20 10:45:41

My great-great-granny was called Fanny, but not Cornforth. I was relieved to find out that her given name was Frances! But Fanny was a popular name a couple of hundred years ago.

Fanny Cornforth was an assumed name as she was really called Sarah Cox.

Lucky, I'm getting a far warmer reception on the covid/schools threads than the one I received here!
(Friendly posters exceptedsmile)

Having been a long time lurker and risking posting recently and getting trounced, I have now returned to being very cautious. So I'd go with those who say stay away from the political section if you are at all sensitive and be aware that you may get your head bitten off without warning. You'll get to recognise the names soon and then you'll know who to avoid!!

Oh Ellianne that sounds heavenly! ???

^I misread the thread title and thought it said " tell me about Gin" I was about to wax lyrical when I realised my mistake. I have just been given a bottle of lemon drizzle gin so I will let you know my verdict.
So, to continue.....a personal favourite of mine is rhubarb gin which I thinklemongroveand I sampled on a visit to Oxford a while back.
Hmm may need further research.
Sloe gin (as opposed to a quick gin) is another favourite and one year as we had very few sloes, we made damson gin - if anything, even better!^

Well, I followed a van yesterday from a farm advertising clotted cream gin. I'm going to try that with my scones!

Fanny we are not like Mumsnet here- we are laydees, most but not all have retired so life goes at a slower pace. Mine certainly does through no fault of my own.

Hello,
Popping on to remind everyone that troll hunting is not permitted. If you suspect anything please report it to us and we will take a look. But please don't automatically assume the worst of new posters. This isn't what Gransnet is about. Thank you.

Welcome FannyCornforth (I've just googled her and refreshed my memory).

GN is a very friendly site but it you want 'to and fro' conversation you have to be near your phone all the time.
I just pop in occasionally and don't post much myself but most of the threads are a pleasure to read and cover all emotions from heart-rending to hilarious sometimes.

smile

BlueSky Wed 16-Sept-20 09:34:42

Well Fanny thanks to you I found out who Fanny Cornforth was! What a name I thought it had been made up for a laugh! blush Anyway welcome and try some lighthearted subjects to keep us sane in today's depressing world! smile

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sept-20 09:33:54

Give it a rest now please Lisa.
I'm on a couple of covid/schools threads.

Thank you Maggiemaybe, that's very kind.
I will persevere!

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Sept-20 09:16:40

Oh okay, Lucca, thank you.
Apologies to Kitty for posting too often. I'm currently on long term sick leave with chronic pain and have a lot of time on my hands.
Can you all give me a bit of a break now, please?!

Maggiemaybe Wed 16-Sept-20 09:14:19

We are usually kinder than Mumsnetters on here

I’m actually starting to wonder if we really are, shysal.

Though if we’re going to discuss gin, I’d recommend Sainsbury’s gin infusions to pep up the Gordon’s.

Welcome, FannyCornforth. I hope you stick with us. It’s a funny old place, but probably worth the effort. smile

Right.
So, I'm inane and fancy myself.
I'm speechless

Actually I don’t think you were being accused of inanity !
Posters may have been thrown by the sudden mention of crispbreads ....
