Plastic baloons filled with helium.
Oriental lanterns made of lead, with the candle inside.
Fireworks sold on an indivdual basis.

Heard that Sainsburys will not be selling firworks this year,
a scheme they started back in 2019.
Just wondering if the other large chains will follow suit.

well done coastiepostie you make a lot of very good points.

re fireworks - I understand that the wild fires in Oregon recently were as bad as they were - in part - because some idiots decided to have a firework party involving hundreds of people at the driest time of the year. Thousands homeless as a result.

I would ban all similarly self centred people to open prisons for three months! where they would have to undergo forty hours of community service per week to help those who have suffered the consequences of their (proven!) thoughtless actions.

By the way, closer to home, a neighbour who couldn't be bothered to book a slot at the tip recently illegally burned tons of plastic rubbish in her garden. Twelve foot high flames and carcinogenic black smoke - only three foot away from another neighbour's recently filled oil tank.

Luckily we all survived ( in the short term anyway)to tell the tale.

Patsytaylor the jeans or the hair?

LauraNorder Thu 24-Sep-20 18:41:15

Agree with AGA most of our grievances have selfishness of others at their root.

Re. Fireworks and petrified dogs - these drops work. Really. They do.

Noreen3 Thu 24-Sep-20 18:31:11

has to be fireworks.Public bonfires are being cancelled this year, but I suppose people will be buying them to use at home. They are loud, bonfire night goes on for weeks, they are unfair to nervous pets, and to nervous people.A lot of us are suffering anxiety now,we can do without loud bangs every night for weeks. They are dangerous too.

Naga munchetty is full of herself.
Then there's ripped jeans and young men with topknot hairstyles. I want to cut them off

grannypiper Thu 24-Sep-20 18:15:12

TwiceAsNice Why would you give a child a extremely hot piece of metal to hold. Instead you could go to a camping shop and buy snap sticks, all the fun without the hot metal.

Tabbycat Thu 24-Sep-20 18:05:01

What's wrong with Naga Munchetty? confused

Stansgran Thu 24-Sep-20 18:02:36

Different chargers. Not horses or serving dishes. I have a charger for my phone,iPad,kindle, dyson vac, car hand vac,Bosch hand vac, window washer, foot thingie, Dh's phone , Epilator ,hand blender, and then there are the chargers for defunct phones .

Fireworks & Chinese lanterns. Both cause so much damage.

EllanVannin Thu 24-Sep-20 17:52:51

I like Naga. She just doesn't live in the real world at times-----a problem of many. Not her fault I suspect.

Cars overtaking cyclists and not giving them enough room and going to fast

I try to live and let live but I would ban selfishness as this is the root of many of the grievances listed above.

Years ago there was firework night. Just one night a year. I would like to see it banned on any other night for the sake of animals who are terrified of the noise.

Tweedle24 Thu 24-Sep-20 15:56:48

So many of these things are already banned/illegal:

Bicycles and electric scooters on pavements
Cars parked on pavements
Excessively noisy exhausts
Littering (as already noted by Bathsheba)
Porn involving animals

Some things, like alcohol, are fine, as long as used moderately. Drunk and disorderly is already a crime.

It seems that banning things does not really achieve very much. Until there are enough officials (perhaps but, not necessarily police) to monitor and take action, these offences will continue to happen and annoy.

I agree thus far with all the things suggested and would add noisy, heavy bass music played in cars with open windows, particularly when next to me at traffic lights.

Greygirl I heard on a radio interview that electric and ‘high bred’ cars (I like that description) will soon have sound built into them to alert other road users.

All Battery Farming. All shooting and killing of birds and animals for entertainment.

Bazza Thu 24-Sep-20 15:34:24

Smoking whilst driving. How is this still legal? Any non recyclable plastic. I’m so fed up with reading ‘not yet recyclable’ on so much packing. Then make it recyclable! My sister lived in France for a while and she was amazed at the number of people who take their dogs outside to see the fireworks on Bastille day. She said that all the ones she saw were totally unperturbed.

Tillybelle Thu 24-Sep-20 14:47:54

Oh dear, is it too annoying if I say fireworks as well?

I just want to get it out and be able to let off steam to kind listeners! I absolutely hate them! They are getting louder each year and going on for longer. My poor dogs are petrified, the wildlife must be too. What kind of people take pleasure in making such loud explosions it sounds as though a bomb has gone off? They make my stomach jump.

Thanks for listening to me.

Bathsheba Thu 24-Sep-20 14:28:08

I couldn't agree more M0nica. This thread has really kept me amused! Wanting to ban people who speak on their mobile phones in public places? Well if that actually were banned there would be little point in owning a mobile phone.

Another wants to ban all things American - so that'll be American movies films, cola, McDonalds, KFC, Kellogs cornflakes (among many other breakfast cereals), Oreos, Google, Facebook, Disney, iPhones and iPads, e-readers. Not to mention George Clooney and Brad Pitt wink. And this list is just off the top of my head.

And as for banning littering - erm,,, it already is banned. The Environment Protection Act made it illegal thirty years ago

trustgone4sure Thu 24-Sep-20 14:21:43

I would ban fireworks they are not enviromently friendly at all.
I would also ban halloween/cycling on pavements/parking on pavements to the degree that a pushchair can`t get passed/cold callers/electric scooters are an accident in the making just like mobility scooter are.(husband knocked over by one).
And smoking especially in door ways where you need toget passed.

Bluecat Thu 24-Sep-20 14:07:48

Stupid nicknames that are everywhere online - sheeple, gammon, TERF, snowflake, boomer... Just lazy thinking by people who can't be bothered to produce a rational argument.

Happysexagenarian Thu 24-Sep-20 14:00:21

I'd ban the ridiculously high salaries paid to professional footballers. It's a GAME for heavens sake, kicking a ball around a field. No way do they do anything that justifies such excessive salaries. In fact I would go so far as to ban football altogether!

Facebook and Twitter and other socalled social media, which seem to be far from 'social' and simply cause argument and distress for so many people.

Car parking charges at hospitals.

Inflatable beach toys, they're so dangerous.

Plastic wrapping on fresh vegetables. They don't need it and should be sold loose.

All smoking products and recreational drugs.

I actually like fireworks, and organised professional displays are always preferable to home displays but many of them are overpriced especially if you have more than 2 children. So many families will always choose to have fireworks at home. But I'd ban the sale of them until a week before November and New Year and not at any other time of the year. I'd also ban the public sale of the large, noisy, expensive fireworks and restrict it to sparklers, catherine wheels and roman candles etc.

I'd also ban the display of Christmas stuff in shops until the 1st November. Who wants to see Christmas cards and wrapping paper in August in a heatwave.

I'd ban the use of mobile phones in restaurants and pubs. It's so annoying to have to listen to someone else's loud and usually boring conversation while trying to enjoy a pleasant meal with family or friends.

And I could go on and on......

Packaging that are impossible to open, even with a good pair of scissors. I don't have arthritis in my hands and constantly wonder how those that do, open things. The worse things to open are the molded plastic casing you get around toothbrushes, computer leads etc.
