Anyone remember their school motto? Ours was 'Gentleness and Justice'. Not sure I lived up to that.

I went to a bog standard Catholic Secondary Mod school our motto was/still is, "Semper Fidelis". Always or Ever Faithful.

Abesque labore nihil - Without work nothing/ nothing without work..........how true!

DillytheGardener Sat 26-Sept-20 08:33:55

Gaudeamus "Let us rejoice" a rather nice one I think!

Sic itur ad Astra. Thus the way to the stars.

Marydoll Sat 26-Sept-20 08:23:50

The primary school I worked in had a motto, Laborare est orare, which has always appealed to me and fits my own values. ☺️

Per ardua ad astra
Grandmabatty That belongs to the RAF! grin

Family mottos are much more revealing.

Ours is; "Bona Side Fine Fraude"

Crikey, you all went to posh schools. My London comprehensive had nothing. sad I've just checked the school's website and they recently introduced a modern sounding "learning through realising potential."

Per ardua ad astra.
Through adversity to the stars.
I haven't thought about that for a very long time!

Awwww a public seal how nice. Your school must have had a pool then Calendargirl?
If I had a personal motto I think it would be the Nike one - 'Just do it'!

Ashcombe Sat 26-Sept-20 07:33:07

Este fidelis- Be faithful!

Calendargirl Sat 26-Sept-20 07:19:04

‘Liberae Scholae De Comune Sigilum’

Honour Wisdom.

Framilode Sat 26-Sept-20 06:17:53

Semper Ad Lucem - Always to the Light. Funny how some things stick in your mind.

merlotgran Sat 26-Sept-20 00:01:31

EL James (Fifty Shades of Grey) went to my school! grin

merlotgran Fri 25-Sept-20 23:53:53

Ours was, 'Fortiter, Fideliter, Feliciter' - Courageously, Faithfully, Joyfully.

Bellanonna Fri 25-Sept-20 23:46:42

Apologies, Nan, I was referring to mine!

Bellanonna Fri 25-Sept-20 23:46:04

Hardly a motto, though.

NanTheWiser Fri 25-Sept-20 23:45:54

‘E pluribus unum’ out of many, one.

Bellanonna Fri 25-Sept-20 23:44:45

Gloria tibi Trinitas (a Trinitarian order)

Granny23 Fri 25-Sept-20 23:11:48

Our's was the same as the Town and County. Circumspice

or in Scots = Look Aboot Ye

Marydoll Fri 25-Sept-20 23:06:18

Loyal me serai durant ma vie
Faithful to you, I ever will be.

Nannytopsy Fri 25-Sept-20 23:04:07

Ludus supra praemium - the game is more important than the prize.
The school song was the Athenian oath set to music - we will never bring disgrace to this our city, nor ever desert our suffering comrades in the ranks.
This was an all girls high school!!

lemongrove Fri 25-Sept-20 23:01:49

Per Crucem Ad Lucem
Throught the cross to the light ( more or less)

I don’t like the sound of yours NotTooOld ? all that labouring away and no fun.
