Labor Omnia Vincet. I think that is how you spell it - Labour Conquers All. I never thought about it when I was 16 but it is probably true!

Be valiant (The school hymn was ‘He who would valiant be’.)

Altiora petimus. We strive for higher things.
Don't think many of us reached the summit of Everest, became an Archbishop or even wrote a book to the best of my knowledge but a few did okay.
Gentleness and Justice sounds much nicer, I'd be more inclined to strive for that.

'Ah, qu'il est bon, le bon dieu'. 'The good God is very good '. Notre Dame when it was a girl's Catholic grammar school. I'm afraid the tautology of the motto just made us heathen girls giggle! It was a nice school though.

Our school motto was “Trusty and Leal” (loyal) from the Common Riding song “Up Wi the Souters”;

"Courage, gaiety and the quiet mind".
Not too much of the last two around at the moment.
