Ellianne - I was in Faraday.

Me too. Were you blue?

Our School houses were Athenians (Blue), Spartans (Yellow), Olympians (Red), Corinthians (Green) and our School badge was a Centurian, Half Man half Horse with his Bow and Arrow Drawn, and a Motto of Celter et Certus, meaning Swift and Sure.

Mine was Elizabeth Fry. I've got an old £5 note somewhere when she was pictured on it until about 4/5 years ago.

I was in Gurney, named after Mary Gurney, a pioneer of girls’ education. All the houses were named after prominent women.

I went to a King Edward Foundation School. Our houses were Eagles, (yellow) Ironsides (blue) Swifts (purple) Pioneers (green) I have no idea how these names were chosen. I loved my school and we had a half day on Thursdays which helped.

Just remembered the colours, Ray was red, Howitt was white and Flamstead was blue.

Ours were Howitt, Ray and Flamstead and while I must have known at one time what or who they represented, I haven’t a clue now.

I think I was in (Helen) Keller but I can't remember the others.

Ours were Beaufort, Bordeau, Seymour and Tudor, all connected to Edward VI as we were King Edward's foundation.

Can’t remember, they were all named after local dignitaries and benefactors though, as were the streets surrounding the school. My house badge was a purple colour.

Auntieflo Sat 26-Sept-20 17:19:48

I've enjoyed Jane10's thread on school mottos so much that I thought I'd ask if anyone can remember their school houses? Ours were Faraday, Scott, Nightingale and Curie. Quite a mixed bag, but seeing as it was a mixed school 2 of each gender was good.
