Have you been told you have a nice or unpleasant voice?

Peace67 Thu 01-Oct-20 10:33:24

Yes i have been told i have a loveky speaking voice. I write piems for weddings and funerals and read out a few and recorded a few .
I don't particularly agree with them its just me.
But i think everyones voice is unique x

I have just recorded a socially distanced video for my son’s 30th tomorrow. Horrified! I sound like a right old nana. I even have the mannerisms, lip pursing, rapid eye blinking that my gran used to display.
I always think Miriam Margoyles has a superb young ans engaging voice.x

When I used to get calls on house phone before I took it out, they used to ask for my mum or dad. I am 54 yrs old! Although when I lived in England people commented more on my "lovely Irish accent".

My DIL is the double of the default answer machine voice, we have had some funny messages apologising for ringing as they must have rung her instead of me.
I love the voice of Terence Stamp and wasn't surprised to find out he was related. Our GG grandfather married twice, he is descended from one marriage and I am from the other.

I think the actress Barbara Flynn has the nicest female voice I've ever heard. Nigel Havers has the nicest male RP voice. I like Julian from Yorkshire vet's voice, though that may be because he's cheeky. For timbre, I think Danish actor Claes Bang sounds and looks heavenly!

I’ve never thought that I had a nice voice, but recently I was asked to do a reading at a funeral because you’re voice is so clear and pleasant’ - I was really flattered.

I am told I sound like the Queen!

I’ve been told many times over the years that I have a lovely voice and could be a newsreader ? plus I’ve been asked to do readings at weddings and funerals. When I answer the phone here, no one knows whether it’s me or my daughter, even my 2 sons cannot differentiate !

There are lots of lovely accents in Britain, many regional. If I could choose, I suppose Joanna Lumley fits the bill for me, it's not only her mellifluous tone but the pitch, she's never screechy or shouty as some presenters are Davina McCall I'd least like to sound like Stacey Dooley or God Forbid Gemma Collins. Don't care for estuary particularly the slurring of words like hospital "ospidawl", trousers "trahzies" baby talk!

Martin Jarvis and Anton Lesser. And many of the actors and announcers on Radio 4.

I have been told that I have a good speaking voice. I run two 'Shared Reading' groups where I read a short story to a small group of people, and I love doing it. I really like reading to people and get great enjoyment from it. Of course all that has had to stop because of Corona and I really miss the reading and socialising with the group members.

When I visited the States during my working life they all thought I was Australian?? My husband says when I talk on the phone to my Scottish relatives, I sound Scots!

granjan Thu 01-Oct-20 10:06:24

This was meant for MawB2!

granjan Thu 01-Oct-20 10:03:38

Exactly! me too I loved his voice wink

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 01-Oct-20 10:00:44

Yes, I've been told that I have a very nice voice by my dear late husband. He also added that he never tired of hearing it - but it doesn't follow that he was always actually listening!

I was once told that it was distinctive - I don't really know what was meant by that. To my ears I sound like a slightly less excitable Su Pollard with a Nottingham accent. Sadly I cannot sing a note.

Callistemon Thu 01-Oct-20 09:59:24

I think you're right about the Welsh voice lemon, it's so lyrical and mellifluous.
Not all of them!

Callistemon Thu 01-Oct-20 09:58:19

henetha

I'm very Devonshire and don't like it at all. I wish I spoke like Joanna Lumley.

I like Devonshire smile

pen50 Thu 01-Oct-20 09:57:01

Compulsory school elocution lessons mean that my voice would be very useful for quelling a native uprising at 50 paces but otherwise serves as a way of causing tradespeople to quote me treble what they quote my Geordie partner....

Beautiful - no, I think not!

When asked for my age over the telephone, I have often been told that I sound much younger.
My accent is still that of North Cumbria although I have lived further east for many years.

My recorded voice is nothing like the voice I hear in my head!

Chewbacca Thu 01-Oct-20 09:34:44

A good analogy there 're David Beckham Alima! grin

EllanVannin Thu 01-Oct-20 09:33:17

Well spoken is what I've been told. I wouldn't know.

lemongrove Thu 01-Oct-20 09:22:07

Haha Alima a good description of Beckham ( such a good looking man with a strange birdlike voice.)

Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins ( maybe I just like the musical intonation of Welsh accents.)
Mariella Frostrupp does have a great voice, as did Fenella Fielding.
Hard to say about your own voice I think, it may sound different to our own ears (recorded) to how others hear it.

Teetime Thu 01-Oct-20 09:21:30

Yes I have been told often that I have a nice speaking voice and when younger a nice singing voice. I think that's gone a bit rusty but I hope to join a singing group when such a thing is possible but not a Choral Society which I loved but you have to be honest with yourself dont you.

Alima Thu 01-Oct-20 08:35:41

Geoffrey Cox, like black treacle. ( As opposed to David Beckham, was a great footballer but sounds like he has trapped himself in his zip).
