Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark ,wet and windy here in Brackley this morning , its a storm with a name.
Usual shop early , and get back watch some TV , then after lunch watch cycling on TV a raced based in Belgium, so conditions will be somewhat similar to what I am seeing now .
The Giro tour of Italy starts tomorrow , in this belated cycling season usually held in May .
Take care ,
Mick

After a busy start, including giving DH a bath, something I find easier in the morning when I am less tired, now wondering what to do with an empty morning (apart from some necessary admin). Could just read with a clear conscience I suppose. Out to tea with a neighbour this afternoon and am looking forward to that.

Have found someone to replace the leaking flat roof over our utility room which is really a sort of corridor. Estimate not too terrible and he promises to get it done before November. Apparently there is an epidemic of flat roof leaks after the very heavy rain a couple of weeks ago. I am not surprised.

Thinking of so many of our regulars having a hard time, and hoping that Mr Corner has had his hand seen to successfully and returned home safely.

Thank you Urmstongran. It’s been an amazing eye opener to me how much you can care about the lovely virtual friends on Gransnet. I so wish I had a magic wand....... xx

Good morning all from a wet and windy Welwyn in Herts. Looking forward to a visit with DS and DGC, it will be good to see them after many weeks. The little ones change so quickly at this age (3 and 1 years), the 1yr old has just taken his first step in the last few days.
Wishing all of you as good a day as possible, especially those who have health or other worries.

Urmstongran Fri 02-Oct-20 09:59:36

No sun here!
Good morning everyone from Malaga where it’s warm but we have white cloud. No sun at all but I spy a ribbon of blue stripe over yonder so it may brighten up this afternoon.

I’m late. Our daughter rang, then FaceTime’d with the children. She’s kept them both home too while they wait for their Covid test results done yesterday afternoon. She looks heavy eyed, poor thing. The 8y old grandson asked if daddy has got the coronovirus. He’s in bed, aching with a temperature. Thank goodness for paracetamol.

I like your idea of a group hug GrandmaFrench. I think there’s a fair few of us feeling a bit wobbly just lately. Sark you have a lot on your plate right now - I hope your worries don’t come to anything. 9 times out of 10 they don’t. Hang on in there. Shout out to you too dragonfly - just be reassured your in safe hands with your medical team. My younger sister went through all that too and she was Grade 4 cancer. 5 years on & she is doing fantastic. I wish the same outcome for you too.

I love the flowers Oldbutstilluseful. Much needed today so thank you from all of us wobbly ones. I love this thread. It is so truly supportive and kind. Oh dear, I need a tissue now ...

Hope Friday is kind to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Marydoll Fri 02-Oct-20 09:45:22

It was for me too, Borrheid. I do promise to catch up by email. As others know, I can never find time to do what I've planned!

Do you still have your red hair, I do! grin

Borrheid55 Fri 02-Oct-20 09:42:36

Morning all from a very wet Ashford in Kent. Another day indoors. No desire to head in to town - we are about two miles from the centre. I do have a bus pass as i have Ménière’s disease but only used it once since i got it in July, blooming Covid! For those of you who know Marydoll, we ‘found’ each other recently! We were friends at school but lost touch when we left. My username alerted her - she recognised my play on my home town’s name. Wonderful surprise. I look forward to playing a more active part in GN.
Hope you all have a good day, time to tackle the Times xword!

Greyduster Fri 02-Oct-20 09:31:56

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. A dreary but so far dry day in South Yorkshire. The rain is coming, I know. We had a nice afternoon in the Botanical Gardens yesterday to take advantage of the last dregs of summer. It was lovely. Still plenty of blooms, and the trees are starting to turn. Then we went for lunch at a local restaurant we have used often, expecting it to be as busy as usual, and it was empty! It was very strange, and rather uncomfortable, eating in a totally empty restaurant. I hope they were busier in the evening. The food was good though! Ironing for me today, and then not much else. Have a good safe day folks.

Mapleleaf Fri 02-Oct-20 09:31:38

Good morning all,

A grey, mostly dull and slightly breezy morning here in South Yorkshire today. The sun is just visible but struggling to get out properly - I suspect the grey sky will win.

Bedding to be changed today and will make the last of the tomato chutney - I've got a lot of green tomatoes to use as I picked them off the trusses on Wednesday because I knew they were unlikely to ripen any more outside. I've had a good crop this year - slow to get going, but once they did they did really well.

I will go back and read all the posts now. Take care and ? to all with worries, sadness or health issues.

GrannyOwl5 Fri 02-Oct-20 09:26:38

Good morning everyone from a wet and dreary North Kent. Day for a new watercolour painting me thinks. Don’t think it’s going to be a day for being out and about.
Sending thoughts and prayers to all those battling with ill-health, worries and anxiety; you are all inspirational in how you deal with what life throws at you. I salute you all. flowers
Stay safe everyone

annsixty Fri 02-Oct-20 09:20:56

Good morning all.
I usually read and run but this morning I felt I must offer support and the very kindest thoughts to those of you so sad with your own problems and those worrying so much about family members.
All this worry and uncertainty is magnified by the times we are living in.
We must pray it is all over sooner rather than later.
Have the best day you can everyone.

Grandmafrench Fri 02-Oct-20 09:15:06

Good Morning everyone. Here, in ??, very warm, windy and overcast. Opposite edge of France waiting for Storm Alex to arrive. For once, we’re not in the firing line.

Honestly think we ALL need a group hug. Bad news can’t be infectious surely? I am so sorry to hear of your family worries, Sark. No wonder you’ve had a difficult night. It’s so hard to try to limit all the “whatifery” until you have definite facts, but you must try so hard now to do that or you’ll be a wreck. So many worries and you’ll want to be supportive, so please try not to worry excessively until you’re told you need to. That way you’ll stay a pillar of strength. Harder to try to manage your DB’s news. I expect that will be repeated endlessly across the whole of the UK now, but if someone is mentally fragile then it’s much more difficult. Keeping in touch and making him believe that he has support is possibly all you can do, but if in any doubt try to share the load with professionals and encourage him to do this in order to help himself. And post on here for a moan because everyone cares about you. ?

Dragonfly people obviously care about you. You must be disappointed but, as you say, whatever treatment (finally) being offered now is preventative since this is unfinished business! I wouldn’t want to be facing further surgery but if it keeps you safe, you’ll face it won’t you. We’re all on the touchline cheering you on. Don’t forget that. ?

I’m concerned - really - about the numbers of Grans not sleeping properly or at all. But these are busy people. How can you be expected to run on empty, lovely peeps. Is there not time in these dull and restricted times to focus on this problem and try hard to come up with a plan to develop a new sleeping pattern? Little things we all know, but I’ll throw them in here just in case: no napping in the day (however tired), go to bed when you feel really tired in the evening - even if that seems early. Don’t eat late. Don’t race about doing a million things before bedtime (Grandmafrench!) but wind down very slowly, maybe with a hot drink, a bath, a book (not a hardback to smack you in the face when you fall asleep!), NO COMPUTERS, warm feet, warm bed, cold room (no more than 19 degs), sleep apart for a while if your partner is going to disturb you, and try really hard to relax and keep mind blank. Not the time to try to re-organize the world or sort out worries! Promise yourself you’ll do that in daylight. If that fails, a very short course of pills from the Doc to kick start good, new habits should help. Don’t behave like you’re 21 and can go without sleep indefinitely, you’ll pick up all sorts of illnesses and worry even more. Here endeth today’s lecture - given in hope and with good wishes!

Bellasnanna isn’t your DGD so lucky to have you. A relationship with any Grandchild is special, but it looks as if yours is really important to her now. And there you are! You take the time and make her feel that she counts. That’s all that’s needed. ?‍♀️?

Marydoll you’re losing the plot? Same here. Yesterday afternoon, before going to the Vet, I showered and dried my hair. Decided that my hair appointment might need to be brought forward from next week, because it is looking not at its best ? - shall we say? DH, who also needs a haircut, is out buying chicken for the dog’s suppers. I look in my diary before ‘phoning my hairdresser to change the appointment. The appointment that is not next week .....but yesterday morning!!!!!! ? “Oh, whatever can I say” I said to her. “I’ve no idea” she said. Fortunately she has a sense of humour. She is also not punishing us, we have an appointment for Tuesday. Or, as she put it, “seriously, Tuesday!”

Took our little cat to the Vet, and he has a flare up/infection caused by his having Coryza/Cat flu a couple of years ago, and the virus stays with them. So, he’s on antibiotics and we must hope that after a week, he’ll be on the mend. If not, I’ll take him back. Thank you Beauregard for asking. More important - let’s hear that your DH’s problems are resolved soon and that you can go away for a break.

I hope that the wetness and windy conditions pass by and leave you all safe and sound; that all those with worries (especially for partners or family members) get some relief and support and a return to some positivity very soon.

Have a good Friday and stay safe in all this madness. Let’s work, make plans, be hopeful and find something ridiculous to make us laugh at least once a day.

Hugs for all

Nortsat Fri 02-Oct-20 09:12:48

Good morning Mick and the GM team from a wet east London.

I missed your post yesterday Sark, so I now join with all the other Good Morning team members in sending you good thoughts and healing wishes.
Sending those same good thoughts to Dragonfly, Marydoll, Bluesapphire, gillybob and all of those who are facing challenges today. ?

It’s chilly and cheerless here, so I think I will put a curry on, to slow cook, for our supper tonight.

I have some useful information about recycling unwanted jewellery to benefit the Alzheimer’s Disease society and will start a separate thread.

Have a good day all. ?

cornergran Fri 02-Oct-20 09:07:56

Morning Mick, morning All from a wet and windy corner of Somerset. Currently sat in a rocking car outside a minor injuries unit after a horrible motorway trip. Mr C’s hand has deteriorated, this seemed the easiest way to get someone to assess, or it did when we were indoors hmm. Hoping for a coffee when he emerges, then rocking and rolling back home for the day. flowers for you sark. I’m sorry you’re carrying a burden. Special thoughts for anyone with a heavy heart, stay safe everyone.

Kalu Fri 02-Oct-20 09:06:39

Oh Sark, no wonder you are full of worry. I am so sorry you are having to deal with so much. Take care of yourself too and know your friends here will willingly offer any support we can. ?

Best wishes for Dragonfly and Grammaretto. ?

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Taichinan Fri 02-Oct-20 08:45:09

Good morning all from a bright Angus coast. I shall appreciate it while it's here as I know we're in for a stormy few days ahead Sark I am so sorry for your worries - that's more than anyone should have to bear at any one time. Sending healing thoughts your way, and if it helps to write it down, go straight ahead - that's what we're here for ?. I have a bit of a chesty cough which seems to come and go I've noticed it again this morning and thinking about it, I wonder if it is to do with wearing a mask during all those classes when I'm doing so much exercise and talking? They do get very damp, and I have to change them frequently, but it can't be good breathing in all that warm damp air - even if it's my own warm damp air! Hey ho. There's always something. So sorry for those of you suffering under lockdown again. I know Nicola's thinking of a 'circuit breaker' for Scotland, so I'm off to do a shop this morning, although I could easily manage to leave it until next week. Is that panic buying? I hope not! But you just don't know what tomorrow's news will bring. I caught up with yesterday's posts just before bed last night - I'm like a wet rag after my four-class-morning and end up doing nothing all afternoon. So, to catch up. Alegrias I know that restaurant in Gordon well, so you weren't all that far from me! Sorry about the end of your holiday Nannytopsy. And Marydoll you seem to be one of those people who can make a good story out if everything that happens to you - and a lot does happen! My late partner was just like that - he was a great raconteur and his stories were legend. The world needs more people like you two! Now before I go shopping I must away and tackle my kitchen which gets sadly neglected on tai chi days. Please have as good a day as possible everyone and keep cosy and dry ???

Ashcombe Fri 02-Oct-20 08:41:02

Good morning from la Sarthe!

Storm Alex passed through overnight, giving us winds of 75kph so rather noisy, hence a late appearance from me today. DH has discovered that the ferocity of the wind blew down the remote part of our weather station which isn’t in a particularly exposed position.

A minor concern in the overall scheme of things, especially those with health concerns, like Sark, to whom I send every good wish. flowers

Today we shall visit Lidl so I can stock up on supplies to take home, especially wine boxes (less noisy in the car!), toilet rolls (plentiful here) and tinned veg., which are in very small tins, ideal for a single. It will help make quarantine bearable!

Have as good a day as possible.

Grandmabatty Fri 02-Oct-20 08:38:07

Good morning All. ? For Sark as you have a shed load of worries to shoulder. And ? for anyone who needs them. I had a wobbly couple of days earlier this week and I didn't feel well either, however I have perked up as the week has progressed. It's bright and cold in Polmont this morning. I'm going into the local retail park with dd and dgs for a wander. We'll be masked up and as safe as anyone can be in these strange times. The rest of the day will be spent in artistic pursuits ie Cross stitch sewing and a little autumn painting. Have a good day all.

LauraNorder Fri 02-Oct-20 08:37:38

Good morning Mick and all from a reasonably bright and still Anglesey. Builders had the mixer going at 7.50 so I’m awake! Waiting for my cuppa in bed and thinking about all those of you with troubles and yet soldiering bravely on. Wishing you all a safe and peaceful day.

Oldbutstilluseful Fri 02-Oct-20 08:33:06

Good morning from N Hants with very strong winds and driving rain.

Sending love, best wishes and hopes for good outcomes to all suffering and worrying. So much heartache today. Some flowers for all of you xx ?

Gingster Fri 02-Oct-20 08:21:55

Good morning all. It sounds like we’ve all got the wet and windy weather. Storm Alex heading our way.

We are back in Essex now and will catch up with family and friends in small groups.

I think we’re all feeling a bit down with everything and of course the weather makes it worse. Let’s try to keep bright and keep busy.

Sark I do hope things get better for you. Worry is awful, especially when you can’t sleep. ?

Yesterday I tried ringing the surgery to book our flu jabs. I’ve never had one but thought it wise this year. After hanging on for 10 minutes or so, the receptionist answered and then the phone went dead. This happened five times. We are not allowed to go to the surgery and the e mail I sent didn’t deliver. What do I do now ? ?

Best wishes to all.

Good morning from a wet, windy Colchester.
Going to be an indoors day. I'm sure we'll find something to keep us occupied. We should've been away.
Much love to all.

Gelisajams Fri 02-Oct-20 08:14:02

Good morning from a dry Morecambe Bay. Had a lovely drive back from Scotland seeing some lovely Autumn colour.
Off shortly to try and get the electrics sorted in our camper van. It’s been playing up for some time and today it is finally booked in.
Feeling for so many who have multiple family problems. ?
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Oct-20 08:11:44
