The part of my post that you quoted, BlueBelle was not in italics so could be something you'd written.

It's quicker, Bluebelle and nobody can argue with it.

It is!

But does it really matter whether or not it takes up a lot of space?
It’s not like we’re charged per word for anything we write.

Personally, I quite like the quote facility, but if I want to use just a certain few words, well, I do that instead.

Good point - completely agree

But why does it have to be so big merlotgran
If I want to quote your post It’s simple enough

It's very useful when it's a long thread and you need to refer to a post a few pages back.

But if you use the quote button it takes up loads of room

I've only used it where I've been responding to a post that's very short and was quite a long way back in the thread. I prefer to copy and paste the relevant comment though as it takes up less space and refers directly to the specific part of a post. To avoid misdirecting my post, I quote the posters name in bold; so that it's obvious who/what I'm referring to.

Saves any confusion about what has or hasn't been said.

Oh phoenix, you really need to stop getting so wound up over other people's posting habits. I don't understand why it upsets you so much. X

Oh well said FH

BlueBelle Sat 03-Oct-20 21:51:17

You can do it so much easier by just highlighting the actual words or sentence instead of that great big box surrounding a few words luckygirl
I never knew why GN bothered added that feature when there are so much better ones that they have been needed and rejected over the years

biba70 Sat 03-Oct-20 21:51:01

As Lucky says- comments come thick and fast, and it makes it clear which specific comment/poster you are responding to.

Urmstongran Sat 03-Oct-20 21:49:46

I take it you must use the option a lot return? Like anything in life - less is more!

Callistemon Sat 03-Oct-20 21:49:16

I do use it, only if it's a short post I'm quoting usually.
I've only just managed to copy and paste on this device, so if I want to respond to part of a long post I do only copy the relevant part.

Jaxjacky Sat 03-Oct-20 21:48:48

phoenix I agree, would probably write as xxx said....and pertinent words.

Luckygirl Sat 03-Oct-20 21:47:07

It is to make it clear which post you are replying to, as, whilst you are typing, otehrs might have chipped in.

I only use it if I’m several posts along and the quote facility helps others recall what I’m responding to, Even then, if the quote would be too much of a screed, I don’t use it. I’d rather just pick out a relevant sentence or two instead.

BlueBelle Sat 03-Oct-20 21:43:10

Drives you up the wall doesn’t it it takes up so much space

phoenix Sat 03-Oct-20 21:39:09

Hello all, good wishes to you.

I've noticed that there are more uses of the "quote" facility.

Yes, it's very useful when wanting to refer back to a specific post, but as someone posted (so sorry, but I can't remember who) "you wouldn't repeat someone's comment/remark before responding to it in conversation" (or something like that) so why are so many people doing it? confused
