The Carnival is Over - gets me ever time.

That's a song from the pushchair for me!

Top of my head it's got yo be "I Don't Know You Anymore" by Savage Garden.

Are you casting aspersions about my age?

Love all these and agree with lots of comments but this morning found myself in tears when Steve Wright played Galway Girl, reason is grand son had chosen it to be one of the songs to be played at his wedding in June, now postponed to July next year.???.

Oopsadaisy, I'm with you on Eternal Father Strong to Save. Can remember singing it at school when I was little whenever there was a sea tragedy. And to emphasise the gravity of it, we had to stand on our chairs to sing it!
Wonderful hymn and so fitting for us as an island nation.

Born Free - Matt Munro
Wonderful Life - Black
When Doves Cry - Prince
I could go on but I'll only end up in tears and smudge my makeup (getting ready to go out for Sunday Lunch)

Nope - songs don't make me cry, that's just some people (the emotional ones) isn't it?

Teetime Sun 04-Oct-20 10:37:15

I'll be seeing you-Anne Shelton

Time after Time- Cindi Lauper

Ooh, you sound very tough Hetty.

When I’m in the right mood, I like to listen to a sad song and shed a tear, (on my own), as DH looks embarrassed if he catches me.

Alishka Sun 04-Oct-20 11:08:27

Charles Aznavour singing La Boheme (in French). Pres.de Gaulle(very tall) was known as Le Grand Charles Nationale, and C.A.(very short) as Le Petit Charles Nationale grin

The Ashokan Farewell- Ungar
I love that tune. My favourite version is his performance with Ally Bain. I used to rock my baby granddaughter to sleep listening to it.

Vickysponge Sun 04-Oct-20 12:45:42

Thanks grannynanny it’s beautiful isn’t it. We played at my dear MiL funeral.

paddyanne Sun 04-Oct-20 13:15:42

Dance with my Father Again - Mike and the Mechanics

honeyrose Sun 04-Oct-20 15:22:43

Forgot to say, I also love some of the more poignant songs from Les Mis, Phantom and Miss Saigon! Haunting and beautiful tear-jerkers, which evoke spine-tingling reactions from me.

WOODMOUSE49 Sun 04-Oct-20 15:52:26

So many by Elbow. Can't pick one so it has to be two: it's Sad Captains AND Scattered Black and Whites.. Guy Garvey is such a talented writer.

Mike & The Mechanics - The Living Years

Ed Sheeran - Perfect Symphony (with Andrea Bocelli)

Love 'Ashokan Farewell' too vickysponge they played it throughout that fabulous series on the American Civil War a few years back
My choices are Percy Faith's 'Theme from a Summer place'
Eva Cassidy's 'Over the Rainbow' and, 'Fields of Gold'
'From this moment' - Shania Twain
'Take me home country roads' - John Denver
'Bring him home' - Josh Groben (this one really sets me off)

So many lovely melodies with beautiful lyrics out there, all with both happy and sad memories

Vickysponge Sun 04-Oct-20 16:07:06

Yes I remember that series sassenach. I can’t remember what version of Ashokan it was but I love the version of Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. It’s so beautifully played on the violin.
