Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark, the paths are wet , but also cold outside .
Today , small shop and then settle down and watch TV later .
Yesterdays trip out , Both Buckingham and Bicester were quiet in the amount of people out, the cafe where I have a coffee and snack in Bicester , the bakery shop it is at the rear of very few customers , maybe in general despite the alert levels people are treating it as a general lockdown.
Take Care ,
Mick

Kate54 Think keeping small children out of the way your best way of helping!

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 16-Oct-20 11:11:46

Good Morning all from sunny Harrogate. Thank you Dwmxwg for explaining how you got your 'name'.
Watching TV earlier this morning and reading the subtitles I learned that Wales relied on terrorists for income!! The subtitles can be more amusing than the programme.
Just had a phone call to tell me an old friend died last night, she had been ailing, so was possibly a release.

On that sad note, I wish everyone to be the best they can be!

Sheepandcattle You are now one of my favourite posters! I love this thread (but don’t often post) it’s fascinating to read how diverse are all our lives.
Sunny in South Bucks today but a bit too wet underfoot for grass cutting which is annoying. I have a nice lightweight cordless mower but it can’t cope with wet grass. Picking up GD after school and take her to her drama class.. I bring her a picnic to eat in the car on the way as it finishes well past her meal time.
Out to dinner then off to the cinema tonight, only 2nd time since lockdown as there haven’t been many new films released to tempt us to risk it, but thought we would give the new ‘Rebecca’ a try. Face masks weren’t compulsory on our last visit so that’ll be different... ?

Hazbeen, I'm glad to see you posting again.

MARS BAR CAKE

Oil a baking tray.

3OZ HARD BLOCK MARGARINE
3 LARGE MARS BARS (or pack of 5 Lidl copycat ones, they are what I use.)
3oz COCO POPS or supermarket own brand. (I use this)
200g of cheap supermarket chocolate. 1 plain, 1 milk.

Melt the marge and cut up Mars bars in microwave in 30 sec bursts. Mix well with a fork until you have a gooey mess, with no lumps.
Add the coco pops, you made need to add a wee bit more.
Spread out in the tin and put in fridge to set. it takes minutes.
Melt your chocolate together and spread over the mix.

Eat and then go on a diet!

Morning Doghouse1 you are not forgotten. Hope to see you soon ?
gillybob thinking of you too.

Nortsat Fri 16-Oct-20 10:59:57

Good morning Mick and the GM team, from an overcast east London.

Well I too missed the intrigue, I hope everything is ok now.

Quiet day for me, I am a bit out of sorts and my partner has some issues at work, so he needs my moral support.

Good morning Doghouse 1 and good morning gilly.
Loved the nails Urms and the ewes bums Sheep.
Have a good day, all. ?

Good morning from Durham.
Damp, grey and cool. ?. Have DD2’s doggies here again, so I’ll be taking them out separately soon. The puppy is wild, so a quick walk with him, then a longer leisurely walk with the older boy.
We are downgraded to Tier2 now. TBH our ‘local population’ infection level is low, but the University students are ramping it up by hundreds a day. Durham is mid-way between Sunderland and Newcastle where the virus is raging in their Universities too - almost 2000 in Newcastle alone.

Do any GN’s live around the Crewe, Nantwich area? My SIL lives that way and is out and about constantly, eating out and in with friends. Is that area very relaxed?

Hope everyone has the best day today. X

Grandmafrench Fri 16-Oct-20 10:31:05

What a FABULOUS autocorrect, Taichinan - I'm with you on the countryside and on that fabulous soup but I have to draw the line at eating skunk, I'm afraid....even homemade! Clearly your keyboard thought that Skink was a step too far...blinking know-alls, those keyboards. grin

Taichinan Fri 16-Oct-20 10:19:47

Good morning everyone. I feel we are being very selfish with our perpetual grey cloud cover and would be happy to swap it for some sunshine!

kittylester such sad news for your DD's friend's family. My DD's late husband was diagnosed at age 31 when their little babes were just 4 months and 2 years. Aggressive treatment gave him another 10 years to be with them. It is just unbelievably sad. My thoughts are with you all.

Lovely hands, Urms and cute squirrel Grannyowl.

I too am loving the chats about life on the farm. I have been a country dweller for most of my life, and in fact when I was very little I decided that when I grew up I would marry a farmer so that I could drive a tractor! In actual fact I married an RAF aircrew navigator - but for one memorable birthday present he arranged with a local farmer for me to drive his tractor. So I ploughed my furrow (and Tommy enjoyed a bottle of whiskey)! Where I am now is arable land and I still derive huge excitement from watching the gigantic machines at harvest time. The little girl still lives within ?
I don't know what's on the cards for me today - yesterday's highlight was fresh haddock from the fishmonger and a tub of their home made Cullen Skunk. All was well with my world!

Have the best day possible everyone and find something to enjoy and be grateful for, however small. ???

Grandmafrench Fri 16-Oct-20 10:14:31

Good Morning everyone from wild and windy, warm and sunny S of France. Do wish that the winds off the Pyrenées would now clear off elsewhere, thank you. With mask and glasses and hair which constantly covers all that, it's only luck that I eventually find myself at any planned destination these days.

Thought I would raise a small smile with this photo. Wondering if Ballantynes were saving this batch for export to Australia ?! grin

I'm saying nuffink, Urms - except I do so wish I had nice shaped nails like those.

Kate54 How exciting for the family. Yes, making beds is the very first thing that should be done, and preparing and stocking and cleaning bathroom - so that all involved can collapse and call it a day when they choose, without having to search around for a decent place to wash and rest - and wondering where they left The Toddler grin. Bassgrammy Why not sit down with a coffee and a good think - try to find something that piques your interest, make a list. Don't get downhearted - we're all here and empathising.

Grammaretto you're sounding re-invigorated. Happy for you - it often doesn't take much, we're all quite cheap to run, I reckon! Baubles breathe, re-charge. Such very sad times, Kitty sad NannyT good luck with that knee, take care.

Do Wish My X Wouldn't Grumble - was the way I immediately read your first post of "Scrabble" letters,*DWMXWG*. Otherwise you might just get any old version of that as the days pass. It certainly is a good way to condense your description of a full life - even without Sisters and Nursing shifts!

Stilllearning Well, you've now no excuse NOT to turn up at your DD's at lambing time (just for a bit of supervision, maybe?)

Mellow Can never get enough Amaretto. I do have the most wonderful squidgy cake recipe if you have any of that wonderful liquid left over...grin. GrannySomerset enjoy your afternoon in your old garden - hope you find it up to your standards and that, and the company, makes you feel good. We all need those moments more than ever now.

What the hell......? Hope it's not just me. Reading about the Tiers etc., would be more than enough to reduce me to Tears. My Son told us today that on the Sussex/Kent border where he lives, Police are now randomly stopping cars to ask if peoples' journeys are really necessary! What a confusing mess. Do hope that the whole blimmin' thing is easier in action than it is in print - rather than another exercise to make a bad thing worse. Doubtless more changes coming in - even faster than the weather.

Please take care, above everything else, GN'ers. We all need to be here and on parade each day with a cheery word, a good moan and loads of support at the ready. Have the best Friday possible - squeeze all the good things out of difficult times.

Hugs from French France as per......flowers

CherryCezzy Fri 16-Oct-20 10:13:14

Good morning everyone. It's a mixture of grey cloud and blue sky in the Gower but it's not chilly.

Good news that your DS's covid test came back clear grandMattie. We all know you're going to miss him though, he will return ☺️

I haven't been in the kitchen for ages Marydoll but I got 'wind' of that. Such disruption in the kitchen is sad news indeed ?

We went into the village yesterday but need to go back in again today ?. With my brain cell I forget to do two things I needed to do! In a way it's not a bad thing since when I got home I noticed a strange discrepancy in my bank account. I'm wondering if it's due to the scam covid test reminder sms message that I listened but didn't respond to ?.
I must remember not to get derailed when I'm there today though as yesterday I had to visit Seasalt and I had to buy a skirt in the sale ?. That is definitely not why there's a discrepancy in my account though.

Lovely photos on here today, exquisitely manicured nails Urmstongran, a lovely flock of ewes Sheepandcattle and a great photo of a minxy squirrel GrannyOwl ?

I'm wondering what has happened to Susan. If you are reading Susan I hope you are alright.

Still thinking about gillybob and BlueSapphire and sending? to the doghouse1.

Look after yourselves if you are venturing out and be kind to yourselves everyone ❤️

HAZBEEN Fri 16-Oct-20 09:56:47

Good morning everyone, I haven't posted for a few weeks. I was just feeling a little "off" what with what has been going on with GN and various problems here but I have decided today is another day!!
Its quite bright here in North Surrey and I see we have another posted from my area Dwmxwg, whereabouts are you? I am in Ashford near Staines.
Not a lot happening here today, maybe some houswork (if I must!). I do intend to look at some of the craft sites I have seen recommended on another thread, I want to get some projects lined up for those long winter nights.
My treatment is now in its fifth week and I had a (phone) chat with my consultant this week. Unfortunately its not going as well as she hoped so we are going to a stronger dose. I haven't had much in the way of side effects, just so tired, headaches a bit and redness and puffy legs so I hope the bigger dose doesn't cause any problems. Oh well at least I have the excuse of indulging myself staying at home eating nice goodies!
Stay safe everyone, welcome to new posters, and love and best wishes to our missing friends.

LauraNorder Fri 16-Oct-20 09:56:39

Good morning Mick and all the gang from dry and calm Anglesey. The builders finished the final coat of lime on the front of the house yesterday, it looks jolly nice so hoping all will be done soon.
Thanks for the explanation dwmxwg, makes perfect sense now.
Nails looking good Urms, can’t help but notice how slim you are, sunshine, exercise and cava working well grin.
Loving the posts from the farm, picturing the smile on the face of the busy rams grin.
Lots of rascally squirrels about, great picture.
I do love this thread and pop in and out to hear about life in Malta, France, Spain and of course all parts of our lovely UK.
Sad news Kitty, so much suffering for some, get that lovely teapot out and have a cuppa.
Wishing you all, especially those who have sadness and worries, a better day.

harrigran Fri 16-Oct-20 09:54:59

A late good morning from a grey, damp NE.
A quiet day for me as DH has to go for a blood test.
Saw sister from her front drive to wish her a happy birthday, in return she gave me a container of home made soup which will be eaten for lunch as the cupboards are bare.
SIL made it back to Brussels yesterday but involved two flights, he has to have a covid test on day five. Quarantine not a problem for him as he doesn't work.
Can't believe this week is over already.

maydonoz Fri 16-Oct-20 09:51:39

Good morning all from a bright and sunny Welwyn in Herts.
It looks like a busy day for us with a visit to DS1 to help with DGC as they both have cold and DIL needs a hand.
In the pm we'll do a fruit and veg shop, then home to carry the bricks left from our new driveway to the garden where DH will use them under the shed.
Have a good day everyone in spite of new Covid restrictions which may be coming.

Mapleleaf Fri 16-Oct-20 09:49:13

Morning all.

Our part of South Yorkshire is sunny but cloudy, too, for the moment. Chilly though.

We are also in tier two since Wednesday. It's going to be a very long winter if it remains that way, which wouldn't surprise me really.

Welcome sheepandcattle. Your posts are very interesting and informative. We used to have another poster who talked about her life on the farm which was always interesting too.(Apologies if I'm repeating what may already have been said, but I didn't post yesterday nor read yesterday's posts).

I might potter in the garden a bit later if the rain holds off as some of the plants are looking rather straggly, other than that, it's a wait and see what develops day.

Take care everyone and ?to our missing regulars.

Cambia Fri 16-Oct-20 09:47:45

Morning everyone. Nice cup of tea and read the paper until eight and then made myself go for my Couch to 5k run. Some days are good and full of energy, this one wasn’t! Glad to finish and have a bacon sarnie as a reward!
Yorkshire is dull today, no hint of blue sky so may just have a jigsaw day!

GrannySomerset Fri 16-Oct-20 09:35:10

Will visit our village market this morning where, sadly, we can no longer include coffee and a chat with our purchases of fruit, veg, flowers, plants and all manner of wonderful baked goods. But at least it is running again after so many months without it.

This afternoon I have a WI garden meeting (six, socially distanced) in the garden if our old house. The current owners have done a fantastic job on the house and no doubt the garden will be equally impressive, so I am looking forward to the afternoon and hoping it stays dry.

Missing the Friday girl and hoping we can remain positive in the face of so much dispiriting news.

Kate54 Fri 16-Oct-20 09:33:23

Aha!

Kalu Fri 16-Oct-20 09:33:07

I have given up following weather forecasts Grammaretto and just accept whatever the day turns out to be.

I can hear the brightness in your post, a successful clinic visit for your DH and a sunny day ahead. Enjoy your day?

Marydoll Fri 16-Oct-20 09:30:28

Kate, no spaces between * and letter.

Kate54 Fri 16-Oct-20 09:28:46

Still haven’t mastered the bold type option! Apologies

Kate54 Fri 16-Oct-20 09:27:53

Thanks * Jaxjacky* , I knew someone here would know. Looking forward to feeling useful. Meanwhile, not a lot happening here except gutters, down pipes, all things upvc, bring cleaned in 30 minutes time so perhaps getting dressed would be an idea...

BassGrammy Fri 16-Oct-20 09:19:32

It’s not a bad morning here in Yorkshire, the sun is trying to shine! Feeling quite down this morning though because tomorrow we go into Tier 2, which again cuts us off from family. Our daughter lives 10minutes away, with only open fields between us, but they are in Tier 1. Hopefully we can see them outdoors at half term. I’m used to being out and about and busy and struggling to find things to do at the moment, now that the days are colder and shorter!
Just feeling a bit sorry for myself!

Grammaretto Fri 16-Oct-20 09:16:09

Good Morning all from the Scottish Borders where it looks like another sunny day!
I find GN weather-forecasting much more satisfactory than the radio.
Thanks Kalu
Feeling much brighter today after DH's successful day at the hospital clinic while I wandered around the Botanic gardens with our DS who took the morning off work to help us.

Now even the estimate for roof and ceiling repairs can't dampen my spirits at least for a day.
Great photos on here today but I still miss Gillybob's Friday girl.
