Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

Mine is an assortment of initials of family names.

merlotgran Mon 19-Oct-20 16:10:08

I ought to change mine because I rarely drink red wine these days. grin

I wish I'd gone for Vambo grin

Bathsheba Mon 19-Oct-20 15:50:51

Quite simply because I loved Far From the Madding Crowd (Bathsheba Everdene being the story's protagonist).

When I worked night shift, those that worked for/with me where mostly West Cumbrian and was always greeted with a "awz't ga'an marra" and thereafter referred to as marra, so marra it is.

Mine's just a play on a question that was raised on the late, great Terry Wogan's website as it was supposed to appeal to 'oldies', "looking for something in beige?"
I possess just one beige cardigan and have them in other colours.

Mine’s fairly self-explanatory. I stole it from a book, though, so I can’t claim originality. grin

Witzend Mon 19-Oct-20 15:39:09

Mine is the same one I used for several years on a forum for carers of people with dementia. I couldn’t be bothered to think of a new one.
Self explanatory, I should think!

When I was thinking about joining GN I said: "Of course they will all be domestic goddesses". Since I am very definitely not a domestic goddess I decided that I was going to name myself after the Roman queen of the godsgrin. My year of birth is 1956 hence Juno56.

Mine is the name of my favourite fishing fly. It is tiny and grey, but irresistible (a bit like me really!?).

annodomini Mon 19-Oct-20 15:09:29

Mine is obvious and getting more so as time goes on!

Because despite setbacks, I always try to rise from the ashes, like the mythological bird.

Vickysponge I've wondered if your user name related to Victoria sponge cake! I once won a prize for my Victoria sponge in the annual Village show. Just saying.... not bragging. Hahaha

Hahaaaaa going to change your name to Humphrey!!!

tanith Mon 19-Oct-20 14:56:37

I believe mine means serpent lady which is weird because I hate snakes. It’s the name of my favourite long gone cat but I have no memory where I got the name from.

maydonoz Mon 19-Oct-20 14:54:29

The 'bags' bit is part of a family nick name. I just swopped the first bit of the nick name for Granny 'cos I am one!
