Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

My best friend at school was called Suzette, French and exotic!
The number is just a set of randoms.

EllanVannin, l was born in the Isle of Man too, wish l lived there now, they are Covid free in the community.

Love reading through this thread, as a Newbie it gives a bit of insight into some of the usernames and made me wish I used a bit more imagination on mine.

I'm not a shouty, 'in your face, agree-with-me-or-else' activist. More the, 'be the change you want to see', 'make a difference where you can' activist. I am very active in my local community and I try to influence change more by what I do than what I say. Fortunately my family are wonderfully supportive of my tendency to get stuck in - I couldn't do what I do without them.

LovesToBake Tue 20-Oct-20 23:31:09

I love this thread and find that I can’t stop reading.
My username is obvious too. Especially during the lockdown I was baking many goodies, and giving most away or else I’d be growing sideways. My late mom was known within The neighbourhood and extended family as “the best baker”.

My lovely Irish granny called me this and used to sing a song to me about a girl called Paddy

I tell fibs grin. More old hippie than dressed to kill. There is another GN user with a similar name but I’d been on here for a while before I realised.

narrowboatnan Tue 20-Oct-20 22:56:45

I think mine’s pretty obvious. We sold the house and ran away to the canals on our narrow boat when we retired and, lo and behold, I became narrow boat nan!

Tickledpink Tue 20-Oct-20 22:35:20

I like pink and ‘tickled’ reflects fun and laughter.

Willitwork Tue 20-Oct-20 22:33:46

Whether it be a plan, an idea, a gadget, a recipe, or a new forum name I always wonder................smile

Magrithea Tue 20-Oct-20 22:17:13

The mice made mine!

Hellogirl1 Tue 20-Oct-20 22:16:53

Readsalot, which exchange? I was at Rochdale.

LullyDully Tue 20-Oct-20 22:07:52

My husband calls me this and I call him the same.

GreenGran78 Tue 20-Oct-20 21:44:16

I’m a bit of a recycling nut. I also love growing woodland trees from scratch, and planting them out for future generations to enjoy. I stupidly added the age I was when I joined, not thinking that time moves on.
BassGranny. I sang Bass and Bari Barbershop for many years, but had to stop when DH needed care. I’ve also sung in a variety of choirs, from classical to Community. Covid has put a stop to all our singing, of course, and I miss it immensely.

Jumblygran Tue 20-Oct-20 21:43:21

Well the Jumblies went to sea in a sieve in the Edward Lear poem.
I don’t live life in a straight line so I am a jumbly Gran.

BigBraRa Tue 20-Oct-20 21:26:42

Mine is what my husband calls me ?

GardenofEngland Tue 20-Oct-20 21:26:39

It's where I now live in sunny Folkestone, Kent.

faye17 Tue 20-Oct-20 21:20:32

My name is Faye and 17 was such a lovely age

Yertiz Tue 20-Oct-20 21:13:01

Mine is from a sign my gran had on her bathroom door.

bridie54 Tue 20-Oct-20 21:09:47

Bridie is a savoury pasty made in Forfar, the town of my birth. I like them, particularly the authentic ones, so no flaky pastry bridies for me. And 1954, the year of my birth.

lemongrove Tue 20-Oct-20 21:08:07

Mine reminds me of a wonderful holiday in Italy many years ago, near Sorrento.

Nannytopsy Tue 20-Oct-20 21:00:25

My father called me Topsy for all my life and my daughter was Little Topse.

stewaris Tue 20-Oct-20 20:36:15

Mine is my username from my first place of work after I graduated. I was a mature student (and graduate) and I loved it. I was there for 17 years and I continue to use it as I always remember how happy I was. It's made up of my previous surname and my Christian name. IT gave me it so it has nothing to do with my choice.

MissChateline Tue 20-Oct-20 20:25:25

The name of the song that was playing everywhere when I fell in love for the first time at the age of 36......so many years ago.

Musicgirl Tue 20-Oct-20 20:19:41

I realise I have given my birth year. I use 64 ad part of a user name elsewhere. You wouldn't think anyone could make a mistake in this thread but I've managed it.
