Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

My job!

Flossieturner Tue 20-Oct-20 10:27:04

My name should be ‘my friend flossie turner who is 86’. My mum always gave names to people “fred with the yellow Dustbin” for example. We never knew any of the people. She would never say just ‘Dolly’ it always had the same long handle. She said it for years and I don’t remember that she got older.

Now when anyone starts a sentence with ‘my fiend’ there is a chorus of voices adding the handle.

For several years I was on GN with a different name, but someone blew my cover, so I had to change my moniker. So I did.

ScotinOz

I live in Sydney Australia, originally from Glasgow.

I still have a very strong Scottish accent, which gets commented on very often?!

So I'm a scot living in Oz [Australia]

If I ever get back to visit maybe we could meet up !!

Redhead56 Tue 20-Oct-20 09:44:59

I was Lynnipinny that was too obvious so I changed to Redhead56 because I had red hair and was born in 1956.

Mine stems from living some years in Turkey. I became friendly with a Turkish woman who lived close by. She wanted to give me the name Ayse (Aisha) whilst I gave her the English. name Elizabeth. It was a friend thing.

LauraNorder only obvious to the dim once you explained your background.

maddyone Mon 19-Oct-20 21:42:32

It’s my name, but my second name. The one was added because Maddy on its own was already taken.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Mon 19-Oct-20 21:39:42

A literary reference: one of the central characters of my favourite Charles Dickens novel, Bleak House. I have no place in Lincolnshire nor any connection with (Sir) Leicester) but I may or may not have a dark secret.

Tangerine Mon 19-Oct-20 21:34:04

I thought the name of a fruit was a pleasant word which didn't give any hints about me as a person, although I haven't got anything to hide.

I wanted to call myself "Satsuma" but this name was already taken.

Beauregard Mon 19-Oct-20 21:30:48

We bred a filly foal from our mare a few years ago and gave her a beautiful name. I always thought if we bred another horse I would love to call it Beauregard. Alas, it wasn't to be, so I decided it could be my username instead.

Mine is a joke, a phrase I came out with one day when being driven mad by children's noise! Or maybe it was DH, you get my drift I'm sure!
