I love them so much I actually have 3 of them. DH asked what I'd like for Christmas and I said I'd maybe like one in navy. He then tells me he actually doesn't like my big pom pom wooly hats and said they are made for people in their teens. What do you think?

maddyone Sat 24-Oct-20 16:05:25

No pom-poms for me.

Lemongrove ??

I'm of the small head brigade, and most beanies and bobble hats just look silly on it.
I crocheted one that I thought I might look all right in, but didn't put a pom pom on it, my pom poms are never tight enough and fall apart. Instead I made loopy things.

Just a quick story about E my resident GD....it is pom pom related.

E is of dual heritage and has the afro type hair, that puts up in a bun.

GCSE day with independant adjudicator, who kept insisting she remove her hat..it does resemble a pom pom..adudicator did not believe her, until a yeacher was called to verify it was indeed E's hair and not a beanie with a pompom.

Don’t you mean Mary Beret ?
(I’ll get me coat)

lemongrove Sat 24-Oct-20 13:33:35

I always wear hats in cold weather ( no pom poms) including a gradening hat which my DD calls a Compo hat ( Last of the Summer wine) .
Ethel I think you should obey your lord and master in all things, including hat purchases.?

I have a small head.
Sadly, it's attached to a great big body.
Perhaps a big hat would even things up?

Georgesgran Sat 24-Oct-20 13:22:29

I just don’t have a ‘hat head’ and it’s quite small apparently!
However, if it’s cold out and I’m just walking - I’ll wear anything that keeps my head warm and really don’t care what I look like.

Absolutely Mapleleaf

Lisagran Sat 24-Oct-20 13:07:01

Good post, Mapleleaf I agree.

Each to their own. I like them, personally and have two. They are very warm and cosy when the weather isn’t. Trouble is one of them has a Pom Pom that attaches with a press stud and it keeps popping off. Haven’t figured out how to keep it on yet as the Pom Pom is a bit thick to push a needle and thread through it to fasten it to the hat.
Wouldn’t it be boring if we all liked the same things? There are items I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole but others would, and that includes some of the things that are sometimes shown on GN, but there we go, it’s down to individual taste and preference. If it harms no one else then it’s not for others to judge, really (but of course we do ??).

Kalu, is your wooden beanie hat like this one?

Millie22 Sat 24-Oct-20 12:28:27

No only for children and teenagers really. Yesterday I nearly bought one for my gd it was a cable knit and pink. I like Mary Berry but she looked a bit silly in a bobble hat.

Kalu Sat 24-Oct-20 12:20:26

I was too intent, hoping my pattern made sense to anyone who knits and may want to try it out Dragonfly, I forgot to preview the blooming post!

dragonfly46 Sat 24-Oct-20 12:09:01

Ha ha Kalu I think wooden hats would be quite uncomfortable!

Kalu Sat 24-Oct-20 12:07:33

Woolen?. Not wooden!

Kalu Sat 24-Oct-20 12:06:57

I have a few wooden beanies of different colours but one of my favourite winters hats, I knit;

Rectangle, shape to size
Stitch together
Knit x 2 approx. 5in narrow tiers
Stitch a tie to each top corner of the hat and tie together. Simple ! I use alpaca wool, very cosy on cold, winter wind days.

Just remembering the great Billy Connolly's irreverent comments about hats.....grin
Belly laughs all round when he was at his best!

EllanVannin Sat 24-Oct-20 11:53:46

Same as your Chinese takeaways BBbevan, you wouldn't know if you were getting cat----which is why I would never ever eat them. Just the thought would be enough !

BBbevan Sat 24-Oct-20 11:22:19

Just make sure the Pom Pom is not fur and does not come from China. Could be cat !!!

Purplepixie Sat 24-Oct-20 11:13:02

Go ahead and get more, I love them and didn't realise that they were only for the youngsters.

Marydoll Sat 24-Oct-20 11:06:45

Exactly. Whether you approve of Miss FLs post or not. FH was out of order with her comment about MissFL

Calendargirl Sat 24-Oct-20 11:02:12

I thought FL was saying Missfoodlove was being horrible to most posters, but perhaps I have mis-read the comment.
