Those hats with the big pom poms

I love them so much I actually have 3 of them. DH asked what I'd like for Christmas and I said I'd maybe like one in navy. He then tells me he actually doesn't like my big pom pom wooly hats and said they are made for people in their teens. What do you think?

I like the cloche type---a 1920's Peaky Blinder hat for me.

It's still a personal comment about poster and how she treats others.
Complain about the post if you wish, but no need to say Miss FL is horrible to most posters.

MissAdventure Sat 24-Oct-20 10:36:19

Well, if it's good enough for Mary Berry! smile

Whitewavemark2 Sat 24-Oct-20 10:32:56

Mary Berry had a fluffy Pom Pom hat on when she was in Scotland.

I rather think the comment from Missfoodlove was uncalled for also!

I'm not entirely sure why flying handbag was bought up in this thread.

That strikes me as not very nice.

Not a nice comment about Missfoodlove , FH!

Funny how we bring up children to ignore those who make fun because of what you choose to wear. I think that the fact that you know what you like and wear it shows your personality. My ex mother in law was always moaning about what people should not wear because of age, size etc. But considering she had no friends, a spiteful nature and didn’t like anything out of the norm just showed her personality. I like the posts that say go ahead but add but I wouldn’t wear them! Is that a go ahead or a criticism. I really don’t think that comment was needed as it makes the recipient feel negative. Are we not doing what commercialism wants? Follow fashion but tell us what is right or wrong for you. It’s a hat with a Pom pom and I suppose some look good in woolly hats and some look like miserable old people. I bet you feel great in them and that makes you look great!

Knitted headbands, In the 60s I used to knit them and wear them when I went out with the Ramblers.

Grammaretto Sat 24-Oct-20 09:39:28

How do you keep them on in weather like we are getting in Scotland today?
I have knitted myself a headband from a pattern and wool from the Isle of Uist. I reckoned those shepherds would know about cold and wind if anyone does.

I also checked online Vogue and sure enough you can spend £300 on a pom pom hat with a genuine fox fur pom pom.

These are nice.

My dd just bought one, neutral colour will go with anything, lovely soft chenneil (she's 38) go for it..

DanniRae Sat 24-Oct-20 09:10:51

My eldest daughter is 49 and she wears one - and looks really cute!
So Ethel my advice is wear what you want to wear. (I don't know what it says about me but if my Mr R said he didn't like it I would wear it all the more!!) grin

Puzzler61 Sat 24-Oct-20 08:57:12

Hats keep my head toastie on cold days out walking. Makes a real difference along with scarf and gloves.
I’ve got a few - favourite is a soft fleece one with flowers on the side. If I saw one I liked with bobble(s), I’d buy it!
Wear what makes you happy Ethel.
Do you like everything your DH wears? Probably not.

aggie Sat 24-Oct-20 08:56:46

Just said to my daughter that my bobble hat needs to come out . Just got an old fashioned look !

cornergran Sat 24-Oct-20 08:54:11

Never a cold weather hat fan until a trip to the Arctic Circle converted me. Now I have three pull on hats tucked away waiting for the weather to be cold enough, one is a Lara from Dr Zhivago lookalike hat, love it. No pom poms though. The less said about the state of my hair when the hats come off the better, they stay on until I get home and can make myself look less scary.

My GS’s football team have a team knitted bobble hat and all the supporters wear them. This is my one and only concession to wearing anything with a bobble attached!

Second word, second paragraph!

No, I'm not just awake. Been up sonce five o'clock. ?

tanith Sat 24-Oct-20 08:46:24

I have lots of Winter hats, navy with pom-pom and sparkles, purple beanie, grey beanie, faux fur ear warmer and an Aran one with pom-pom. I’ll wear what I like to keep me warm as I walk a lot even in Winter why people would think hats with pom-pom are just for children I have no idea.

Baggs Sat 24-Oct-20 08:45:37

Second word should be "tell"

Baggs Sat 24-Oct-20 08:45:12

Fair bit of hattist ageism on this thread ?

Ethel, your husband you're not asking him to get you something he likes, but something you like. Funny how some people don't seem to understand that concept.

Urmstongran Sat 24-Oct-20 08:38:43

Just carry a pair of skis with you when you go out?
?

dragonfly46 Sat 24-Oct-20 08:29:41

I have a red pom-pom hat which glitters. I love it - it was especially good when I had no hair and lots of people admired it.
Hats last winter were a godsend!

sodapop Sat 24-Oct-20 08:24:37

I have a "Vera" hat for dog walking in the rain.
