Chef Nigella refers to her kitchen as a 'pleasure palace'. (BBC trailer for her new series). Does anyone else feel such an affinity with their 'place to cook meals in'?!

I also saw her on the Gogglebox clip, and thought it must be a complete wind up.
How did she get away with that?

merlotgran

Tesco has run out of Fish Fingers!!! grin

I ordered some gf ones and they've gone as well. shock

At least I got my bananas.

I just saw her on Gogglebox- what she did to fish fingers should be considered a fish-crime! Has she never heard of a fish finger sandwich? - Mmmm lunch calls!

I don’t mind her, for me it’s an easy watch and not a repeat, but our kitchen is not a ‘pleasure palace’, more functional. Not so many years ago it was a ‘party placé when we entertained a lot, those days now gone sadly.

I really like her too, I've got several of her books. Possibly she's a bit off the wall, but that doesn't bother me. I still think she' really beautiful too, possibly clever lighting I know her programmes are pretty staged but kind of escapist in these dark times.

I've just splashed out!

That's her trademark, being racy. She's made a pretty good living out of it.

How much salt did she put in that curry?

Ellianne Mon 09-Nov-20 23:10:05

I'm not sure there is actually anything "wrong" with her, though she is weird. I think she operates on a different plane from most of us. She is a well educated intellectual who throws in references to some very highbrow stuff.
I've heard she is very thorough and fussy about her filming and her books too.

Callistemon DS saw her on TV a couple of days ago and wondered what was wrong with her. He was thinking perhaps the early stages of Parkinson's or something similar.

Has Nigella been at the sherry? Most of the time I hadn't a clue what she was going on about.

I only listened to about 3 minutes of it and thought she'd been at the cooking sherry, merlotgran, or that she had a set of new veneers that were too big for her mouth.
She was speaking quite oddly.

I thought the tip about adding tahini to cream to thicken it was helpful.
Banana skins in curry, yuk!

MattJo Mon 09-Nov-20 21:05:35

Yes, merlotgran, that was half an hour I could have put to better use.

DH hates bananas. I wonder if I would get away with serving up banana skin curry and passing it off as aubergine? grin

I’m with Nigella here, I’m not tempted by her recipes, but she’s made entertaining programmes about food and cooking and a nice little earner for herself. Good luck to her.

I think she is lovely. O.k. she hams it up a bit but she is entertaining and her recipes are doable.

One end of our kitchen is a Pleasure Palace and that is the part where we eat!
The rest is a means to an end.

lemongrove Sat 07-Nov-20 20:11:55

Forgot to say, the kitchen is just a place to cook and bake ( and sneak into for a snack) the warm sunny conservatory or cosy living room is more my pleasure palace.

lemongrove Sat 07-Nov-20 20:09:32

Nigella does what she does well, and you either like that or not.
She doesn’t do my kind of cooking, I like Delia’s recipes and Nigel Slater better.
Any tv cook/chef has to try and get their own ‘look’ ( think Jamie and his cod cockney.)Bish bash.

I thought I'd see what sites appeared when I typed "pleasure palace" into my internet search. Most of what appeared was to do with an American clothing company called Golf Wang! Not what I expected.
I must admit that some of Nigella's poses and innuendos do make me cringe and seem a little OTT.
She has had her share of problems, including being widowed fairly young and then having serious problems related to her marriage to Saatchi. She's also been very successful - so good luck to her. (Interestingly, it appears that she doesn't think leaving her money to her children would be good for them)
As for the kitchen in our house - my husband does nearly all the cooking, so I don't view it as my domain or special place. I do love to bake, though. My wee sewing room/study is a diferent matter. I can get lost in there for hours in my own wee world!

I enjoy her cookery programmes and her books. I find her recipes easy to follow and they usually turn out well. I enjoy cooking, but my kitchen is only big enough to be called a pleasure ‘scullery’.

FannyCornforth Sat 07-Nov-20 19:06:08

Oh my word!
'Let's be 'avin' you!'
Poor Delia
That was sooo embarrassing.

grumppa Sat 07-Nov-20 18:33:02

Oh call back Delia, bid time return!

What’s Nigella ever done for her local football club?
