Totally sick of the negativity, fake news and general rudeness on this site. Goodbye.
M0nica, the problem arose, as far as I can see, when Teetime gave a warning about a scam and some queried the need for such a warning. Not on this thread.
Chewbacca, we think alike!
Teetime, hope you haven’t left. If the good, kind and decent posters leave we’ll be left with the negative grumps, please don’t let that happen.
We’re members of Which. Every week we get an email updating us on the latest scams for which we’re very grateful. We’re a wide audience on GN ( and there must be hundreds if not thousands who read and don’t post) and you never know who might benefit from a scam alert.
I was well and truly thoroughly fed up this morning when a lovely lovely thread was spoilt by a totally uncalled for and unnecessary nasty little jibe.
I have just looked at the thread, and can see why Teetime was upset.
For all those who wrote quite abrupt and insensitive replies. If a real like friend was telling you about such an incident, what would you say to her? I would sympathise and commiserate, and say it's easily done, even if I was privately thinking she was a bit naive. There are ways of saying things that are kinder than this mornings responses.
I hope you don't go Teetime.
I read it and can see why you would be upset too?. You were trying to be helpful, and although many people were kind, those that weren’t were just plain nasty. I find this a lot. I’ve no problem with opposing views. After all, it’d be boring if we all thought exactly the same, but I find many people are just demeaning, and I can almost see their eyes rolling when they make their comments. I tend to respond initially, and then maybe once more. After that I leave it, as the serious threads always seem to turn hostile. Have a short break. Perhaps reinvent yourself and take on a new username ?.
I don't know what has happened but I am very sorry that you have decided to leave, Teetime and hope you'll consider coming back again in the future.
It didn't help Teetime that the very first response to her helpful post was a sneering, superior reply. That set the tone for the others. How proud that first poster must be.
Teetime, I have known you for years on GN and I enjoy reading your posts. I have been taking a back seat recently due to so many nasty, gloom and doom merchants and those who just wade in to stir, type posters.
I think a good few of us now know which posters to avoid. I personally think of them as a PIA, don’t take the bait, and move on.
Look after yourself and hopefully after some time away, you will decide to return to us. I hope you do.?
As has been said Teetime, take a break and please come back.
I agree too Chewbacca!
I can understand you feeling upset, do not let the one particular poster get to you, she was nasty just for the sake of it. At least the other poster apologised.
Lots of posters were appreciative of the information you gave us teetime, however a poster can have a opinion without being as nasty as one was.
Your thread was useful to the majority of posters who read it and responded Teetime.
We don’t want you to leave,
but I respect your need to take a break after the nastiness and then see if you want to return. Your many friends will be waiting for you. ?
I’m sorry that your thoughtful and useful thread was undermined by some posters unkindness.
I have read threads in recent weeks, which have made me despair. There are some posters who enjoy winding people up and gaining attention. I have been on the receiving end of one or two of them, myself.
I came to the conclusion that I would avoid certain posters and certain types of threads. This has worked in the main. However, some people will attempt to derail even the most pleasant and lighthearted threads.
It would be a shame to loose you teetime. I hope this and your original thread have demonstrated that there are many kind, thoughtful GNs, who value your contributions.
I hope you have a break and come back refreshed. ?
Just been catching up on GN. Been reading the other thread, thought certain posters were very scathing in their comments.
Can see why Teetime is upset, I would be too.
None of us know what us going on in others lives so isn’t it better to be kind ? I appreciate any scam info as am not very computer savvy and now believe no one who might contact us which could get us into trouble one day.
Thank you Teetime, like me, many are grateful fir the heads up, and even those who were a bit sharp might be having a bad day, ( not an excuse to be unkind though).
Best ignored if possible.
It is good of people to let us know about scams. I would prefer to know than not so I am grateful to Teetime for taking the time to post a warning.
She is not taking PMs.
Teetime has always been such a well thought of member of GN for many years and it is such a shame for her to be leaving for giving members such useful information, shame on the members who could not see this I hope you never get scammed in the future.
I’ve only just seen the thread in question.
I’m sure we all like to think we’d never be caught, but the most unexpected people do sometimes fall for them. Not long ago there was a staff member of The Times - IIRC she did research for the financial pages - and she was caught!
@*Teetime*, if you’re still here, thank you you for the warning, and please don’t go!
I do agree about the doom-and-gloomers - some GNers do positively seem to love wallowing in how sh*t everything is,
and others just enjoy carping or having a critical little go at another poster, but I do try to avoid those people/threads. And just dismiss them if I can’t.
You know Witzend Chewbacca, it's not even the doom and gloom brigade that really bother me.
After all, we cant all be feeling the same way at the same time!
It just seems as though some people are quick to undermine others.
There has been a lot of deleted threads just now.
Teetime I have no idea what the unpleasantness is but can only say ignore it and don’t let it affect you.
Today I have had an e mail from GN about needling between me and a regular poster who has obviously taken offence at something I’ve said, I feel that opinions are not appreciated if they differ too from most others. When I read the email my first reaction was ‘leave’ but really does that do any good, so think hard ???
Megs36 from what I gather Teetime has already left!
Maybe she will come back under another name?
Thanks Namsnanny, I always seem to be late!
