Totally sick of the negativity, fake news and general rudeness on this site. Goodbye.

LauraNorder Thu 12-Nov-20 14:25:53

Teetime, hope you haven’t left. If the good, kind and decent posters leave we’ll be left with the negative grumps, please don’t let that happen.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 12-Nov-20 14:21:47

Chewbacca, we think alike!

Wheniwasyourage Thu 12-Nov-20 14:21:12

M0nica, the problem arose, as far as I can see, when Teetime gave a warning about a scam and some queried the need for such a warning. Not on this thread.

Chewbacca Thu 12-Nov-20 14:20:56

M0nica I don't think that the spitefulness being referred to is on this actual thread; more the thread that Teetime refers to in her OP.

M0nica Thu 12-Nov-20 14:12:53

I have read this thread twice and I still cannot find any spitefulness on it. Almost all the replies on this thread are sorrowful Teetime is going, no-one has been spiteful.

Woodmouse Thu 12-Nov-20 14:04:03

I read Teetimes earlier post and couldn't believe how other posters reacted. I didn't have time to comment then as I had to go out but I really don't blame her for leaving. She was offering good advise and was abused. I really don't think I will be staying on GN. There are some truly spiteful people on here.

NannyJan53 Thu 12-Nov-20 14:01:57

I hope you don't leave Teetime, you were so kind to me a couple of years ago, by meeting me off the train and giving me a lift to a GN meet. We need lovely people like you on here {flowers]

Ellianne Thu 12-Nov-20 14:00:48

I have no idea what happened, but Chewbacca is right about some regular posters who just want to wear us down with their doom and gloom attitude.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 12-Nov-20 13:54:27

Oopsminty, you are obviously going to be upset about scams with such a terrible thing to happen in your family. I hope Teetime can accept your apology and that we can all be friends again. Goodness knows, we all need friends just now!

Smileless2012 Thu 12-Nov-20 13:46:47

I agree Chewbacca.

J52 Thu 12-Nov-20 13:44:06

This is my first look at GN today and I’m sorry that you’ve decided to leave. It was lovely to meet you those couple of meet ups that a few of us had and hope you change your mind.
I read more than I post for lots of reasons and avoid deliberate contentiousness. We have enough in real life and obviously something has upset you at this difficult time.
Whatever you decide, I wish you well.flowers

Luckygirl Thu 12-Nov-20 13:42:06

I do not engage with threads which seem dodgy, spiteful or whatever. There are lots of jolly threads too!

Marydoll Thu 12-Nov-20 13:40:44

Teetime, I now realise why you are upset. It was a dreadful experience for you and your husband.
I don't think anyone meant to be unkind, just giving their opinion. It's an open forum, so there will always be differences of opinion.

Take a step back, don't be hasty and wait for a few days, then see how you feel.

Chewbacca Thu 12-Nov-20 13:37:55

Quite agree with Teetime regarding the relentless never ending negativity; it's utterly depressing. Everyone is aware of how bad the situation is at the moment but there seems to be a hard-core of regular posters who post thread after thread reminding us of how dire our straights are, how dangerous our situation is and how wrecked out country is. WE KNOW! Their determination to keep ramming our faces into how ucke up we are is pernicious. They'll be along shortly to tell me how wrong I am to want to bury my head in the sand.

Susan56 Thu 12-Nov-20 13:33:24

Teetime,I hope you stay.I totally agree with you re the negativity and rudeness on some threads.I too have thought of leaving but realised I would miss the decent people I have come to know through the forums, people who have supported me in stressful times and who I care about.Maybe have a break for a couple of weeks and see how you feel then?

Oopsminty Thu 12-Nov-20 13:28:43

Good grief, is this all my fault.

Apologies for my comment on your thread.

I just feel so deeply about this problem and honestly thought we all knew that we must never give out details to some random who sends a message

I get upset because my father attempted suicide after being in a similar situation

He was alone and had been scammed by phone. Vast amounts of money had been taken from his account. He'd left a note. Luckily he was found but it upset him for the rest of his life

So you stay Teetime!

You're obviously very popular which is lovely

I'll be disappearing through that door you opened.

Marydoll Thu 12-Nov-20 13:24:50

Teetime, as others suggest, take break. Look at the other side of the story. For every negative poster, you will find a decent person.
It's hard for everyone just now.

MawB2 Thu 12-Nov-20 13:09:02

This may be on the wrong thread, but is connected so I hope Teetime will forgive.
PS don’t go - we need people like you.

MawB2 Thu 12-Nov-20 13:07:12

Anybody can fall for these. My brother is an extremely savvy man, highly computer literate and held a senior position at Unilever for many years but in the weeks following losing his wife he fell for a highly plausible telephone banking scam.
Fortunately a change in the law affording protection to the consumer where there must have been a breach at the bank’s end, meant he got his £30k back but the damage to his morale at an extremely vulnerable time took a long time to recover from.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 12-Nov-20 13:01:22

Don't go - we need these warnings, and any of us could get caught. There are a lot of posters saying the same thing on the other t*** (don't want to be deleted!). flowers

Tangerine Thu 12-Nov-20 12:38:10

I am sorry you are going.

Hope to hear from you again.

All the best!

sodapop Thu 12-Nov-20 12:36:45

I understand how you feel Teetime after your experience earlier today.
I agree with MOnica make it au revoir not goodbye, you would be missed.

Marmight Thu 12-Nov-20 11:32:11

I’ve had a bit of a break recently, although I doubt I was missed ?. Ive returned but have decided to only post on limited threads and will not become involved in anything controversial - not that I did before. GN has changed a lot since its conception in 2011 but like Topsy, it has growed & growed so I suppose change is inevitable. Have a few weeks off Teetime and return when you feel the time is right and then stick to positive subjects. We’d miss you if you went for ever ?

Namsnanny Thu 12-Nov-20 11:19:34

Same sentiment as above from me Teetime.
You do sound cross, so a change being as good as a rest might be what the dr ordered.
Enjoy the peace flowers

dragonfly46 Thu 12-Nov-20 11:17:59

I am afraid this negativity has spread across all the groups I am part of - even the supportive ones.
I hope after a break you come back Teetime
