Good Morning Everyone,
its dark and its raining outside here in brackley this morning .
Today , apart from getting a Chinese Take away alter will be spent indoors .
Yesterday , I went out lunchtime ,and the local market was on , so I went to a stallholder I know , to order wreathes for family graves which will be ready in early December .
Mind you the town centre was busy for a lockdown , cars coming through the town centre continually, the butchers had a que , which could also be a case of people ordering Xmas meat.
Take Care ,
Mick

Dropped back in and glad I did..EV heartwarming, uplifting news.
Scentia clever stick!
Daddima my DH used to call the airing cupboard a press?

Yes, the ‘lobby press’ is the hall cupboard!
When you left my granny’s she always said ‘ Mind your heid on the lobby lamp’!

Farview hello there! My husband ran family business on the wirral I worked with him. We retired 18mths ago I discovered this website I have got involved in a few discussions since then. I like reading the Good Morning ones best very heartwarming especially during these difficult times.

Scentia that’s fabulous!

Annapops Sat 14-Nov-20 14:51:04

Scentia, I love that tower. How amazing you are.

Mapleleaf Sat 14-Nov-20 14:43:13

Just popped back to send best wishes to all of you with troubles and worries and to say don't hesitate about posting on here how you are feeling. Every single one of us sometimes has days when we feel low or worried and here is a good place to offload whenever necessary.

Lovely news EllanVannin.
Hope Mr lins op goes well Lins. The
Scentiathat looks good ?.

?to all in need of some.

Doodle Sat 14-Nov-20 14:09:48

EllenVannin I don’t post here often but I think about your Ruby Lou and your family. So pleased things are getting better for them. Hope the visit goes well

EllanVannin Sat 14-Nov-20 14:02:39

Taichinan, many thanks along with others who've shown thoughtfulness during tough times, it's much appreciated xx

EllanVannin Sat 14-Nov-20 13:53:46

That's fantastic Scentia, well done yourself. It's so clever to turn your hand to something like that.
I know someone who made a wooden chest containing wooden blocks of all shapes and sizes which all fitted like a puzzle, with rounded edges, then polished and given to his GS for his 2nd Birthday.

The same person made me a pen with patterned grooves---from wood, then polished. I treasure it more than anything because of the work that's gone in it by hand.
It was a piece of wood from the David Attenborough research ship which makes it all the more precious.

My late H wood would have been proud of you as he loved handmade and used to say it lasted a life-time.

Daddima Sat 14-Nov-20 13:51:30

Afternoon all. I feel like a real lieabed when I see you all up at Dawn’s crack! Mind you, the dreich West of Scotland weather wouldn’t encourage anybody to get out and about.
I forgot to read the post yesterday and Thursday, but I’ve been in rather bad form. I’d been thinking how the Bodach would have enjoyed Trump’s antics, then saw that The Crown is due to start, and it was one of the few things we both enjoyed watching. I decided to stir my stumps and continue my clearout, but found a jacket he always wore to golf. Tears aplenty.
I hope Marydoll’s in better form today, so I’ll take over the whinging role. Like her, I fear a lockdown in Scotland is imminent, so no sunny Christmas for me. Good wishes too for Grammaretto, Lins, and Auntyflo, hope Saturday is good to us all.
Top shelf in the ‘lobby press’ can get cleared now. ( Google translate, anyone?)

Scentia Sat 14-Nov-20 13:30:01

The kitchen helper learning tower is complete. It cost me £12 as opposed to £125 to buy one! It is rather rough around the edges but it will do the job!

Taichinan Sat 14-Nov-20 13:20:45

Grammaretto life is certainly really hard for you at the moment ? but then comes the joy of bouncing grandchildren! And, as you say, you can out them back in their box again when you're tired (don't wait for them to be tired though!). Big hug to you x

Grammaretto Sat 14-Nov-20 12:54:39

Good afternoon good morningers! from the Scottish Borders.
I've just read most of today's posts but haven't been posting for a couple of days. My life is one long moan.
I am sorry you've been low again Marydoll.
But those Chelsea buns sound yummy.
Sorry you were so poorly you were rushed to hospital Auntyflo but very glad to hear you are home.
I hope MrLins is having a successful operation. What a worry.

MrG is comfortable and we are so pleased he's home. DS and I are taking turns at being his carer. I'm on duty while DS is off to the beach (think icy north sea) to walk with his old friend.

DFiL was taken to hospital by ambulance earlier this week. No visitors and no diagnosis yet except it's an infection. He's 95 so we are very concerned.

Oh dear, here I go again.

Yesterday's highlight was a surprise visit from our 2 youngest DGC who bounced on the beds and were full of fun and then we could take them back!

Pittcity Sat 14-Nov-20 12:27:39

Thank you everyone for your good wishes.

Grandmabatty "that's excellent news about your new house. Will you be in before Christmas?"
I should think it would be the new year.

Nannytopsy "have you stayed in the same area? It all seems to have happened very quickly."
Yes we are downsizing and moving to near the town centre. Things are moving fast at present because there is no stamp duty to pay if you complete in this tax year.

Mapleleaf Sat 14-Nov-20 12:16:26

Good afternoon,

It's a grey, dismal sort of day here but not cold.
I'm trying to motivate myself to get up and about (I am dressed and breakfasted ?). These dull days don't help with that, but I must buck up my ideas!

I do need to pop out as I've something to do that has to be done today, so without further ado, I'll get on with it! ?

Take care everyone. ?

farview Sat 14-Nov-20 12:05:06

Morning redhead 56..are you new? If so ...Welcome ?

Annapops Sat 14-Nov-20 11:39:22

Good morning from drizzly Durham.

A quiet day ahead. I've already done a little weeding in the garden and I'm "thinking" about the ironing. WhatsApp photos appeared a short while ago with a video too, from DD1 who is currently up at Belsay Hall kicking leaves with her DH and our GC. They were a joy to see. This year has certainly seen them enjoy the benefit of their EH membership as each weekend, whatever the weather they are visiting castles or Roman ruins. It would be wonderful if next year we will be able to join them again.

Hope anyone struggling today finds some relief during these dark days. Have the best day you can all.

Georgesgran Sat 14-Nov-20 11:38:31

Good morning from Durham. We have mizzle here a bit of mist and a bit of drizzle.
Haven’t read through properly but can endorse comments that the NHS is second to none in an emergency. Hope MrLin’s eye gets sorted - looks like several posters have experienced the same condition.
Noticed The Green Mile mentioned - watched it the first time without knowing the story - cried my eyes out and swore I’d never watch it again! Of course I did - by the time John Coffey says he’s afraid of the dark, I’ve totally lost it!!

Think another cup of tea’s in order, so I’ll read the morning posts properly. Nowt much else to do really.

Hope everyone has the best day today. X

EllanVannin Sat 14-Nov-20 11:32:59

Urmston, if you saw the 4 happy little faces on the photo, you'd melt, considering everything that's gone on this year.
I'm so happy for D though as things are turning a corner, she still has her job for which we're all grateful for and the children are happy and healthy so what more does anyone want ?

Taichinan Sat 14-Nov-20 11:32:35

Good morning Mick and all from a cool, drizzly, mizzly sort of day on the Angus coast. You're so lucky to have a market on your doorstep Mick. I remember one year, when visiting my son, we went to Lincoln Christmas Market - it was so lovely and atmospheric. We have a monthly farmers' market here, but I don't think it's been on since last February.

Christmas trees so early! But really, you can't blame folks for cheering themselves up. I just hope the joy and warmth they bring hasn't cooled by the Day itself. I've just remembered I have a lovely 3' white not-a-Christmas-tree which I shall put up in the corner of the garden room this afternoon to cheer myself up - thanks for the reminder!

Marydoll I'm glad you had a good vent and I'm sure you feel the better for it. Lovely to hear how happy your DS is with his new ?. And talking of which - congrats to you Pittcity on your new ? too. That was quick! When do you move?

I have Deli envy NanKate - aniseed sweets! And lovely cheese! Ooooh!

So sorry about your DH Lins, and glad that you have such a good optician and the NHS has come up trumps again. Auntieflo! That's dramatic! So glad you are back here with us.

Ellan what cheer your post has brought. I can just imagine the joy that photo brought and feel your happy tears. It has been such an unimaginably terrible year for your family, and it is so good to know that things are now moving in the right direction and there's light at the end of that tunnel. You are a wonderful family, the way you have all pulled together.

Gelisajams I have nights like that too, when you lie there thinking "Why?". Last night I felt would be like that for me, so instead of going to bed and reading I stayed up and read til 2 am. I read for another half hour after going to bed, but then slept for a solid six hours. So that seemed to work. For me. Last night.

Now I must go and attack my to do today list which, apart from putting up my white not-Christmas tree,(which isn't on my list!) involves making a lovely casserole of chicken olives cooked with mushrooms and a brandy and cream sauce. There other more boring things too, unfortunately, before I'm allowed those pleasures!

Please have the best day you can everyone, with ? in your heart to combat this dreary weather and times. ???

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 14-Nov-20 11:31:23

Good Morning all from dismal, wet, Harrogate - had a job finding this thread and thought I was going to have to do without this chat to friends, thank you Mick for starting it. Hope Mr L will be better soon, Lins. It is such worry. You are among friends, Marydoll. You are allowed to 'let your hair down!' I can sympathise, though, it's this ageing thing. I'd like to stop it. Like I don't know who uses my hairbrush, I keep removing grey hair from it!!!
Keep safe everyone, and have the best day you can.

Blossoming Sat 14-Nov-20 11:08:14

Good morning all, sorry to see many of us have problems to bear. Hope things improve.

I’m still in bed, drinking tea, after a very disturbed night. It’s a gloomy wet day here, which isn’t encouraging me to get up!

Urmstongran Sat 14-Nov-20 11:04:13

Such a poignant post from you EV this morning. x
❤️

"I thought I might go skiing later after a nice hot chocolate in the mountain top cafe, and then remembered I’m not in Switzerland and nor would I know how to ski. "

So funny! x

EllanVannin Sat 14-Nov-20 10:27:15

Good Morning All x
A typical November day, dark, damp with what looks like a wind whipping up blowing the tops of the taller trees, some of which will be stripped of their leaves pretty soon. A lot of leaf-fall this year I notice but beautiful colours.

Kitty, I feel your sadness as I too watched Children in Need and it brought it back to me of the family's sufferings this year. x

Lins, I send my best wishes to your DH, with fingers crossed for a swift recovery. Opticians are clever people and can detect all kinds of things going on at the back of the eye, even if you have blood pressure. x

Marydoll, never feel afraid of saying how you feel, we all understand these things and it's not " wallowing " as we can't help being unwell x

Grandmabatty, hope your insides are a little easier as the day goes on and the best remedy is taking it easy. x I remember mum when her tum was upset she used to take a concoction called Indian Brandee ( anyone remember it ? ) taken in boiled water I think. Either that or bi-carb. grin

Enjoy your get-together later Urmston, sounds brilliant x
Hope Henry enjoys his time with you Susan, thoughts to the little chappie x

My day yesterday turned out to be the best day ever as D made an unexpected call just as I was about to ring her. She gave me a school photo of 4 of the youngest children who attend the same primary school and it's beautiful.

The older one, who's 10 has got his arms wrapped around the 7 year old, 5 year old and the 4 year old-----well I cried !
I haven't seen my GGC for nearly a year and how they've grown. It's the best thing I've received in a long time.

Ruby-Lou is being driven from Durham today, with her carers, to stay with my D and her other older siblings until tomorrow, then next time will be Christmas to stay with the family.
D was so positive about everything yesterday that it gave me a great lift. Even her bank manager gave her a loan there and then for building work to be continued on her house so builders have now been engaged to start work pretty soon.
I was thrilled for her after she'd left that everything's coming together after a pig of a year.

Sorry this is so lengthy but there's no-one else to share the news with other than yourselves.
Thanks must go to the local authorities here for giving so much attention and assistance to the family in making this a " special " case by pulling out all the stops. They've gone above and beyond.

Hope everyone's day turns out well so stay safe flowers xx
Thoughts to Gilly x
