The more tenuous and obscure the better!
My aunty went out with the bloke who designed * both*
A) the Cadbury's Chocolate Orange packaging, and
B) Buzby, the British Telecom mascot

Ooh, just remembered - I saw the back of Mollie Sugden walking away with the gingerbread man she had bought.

I live in the town where Sid James died on stage during a comedy play.

A relative stayed at an exclusive hotel abroad and a very famous boy band were ensconced there. They got up to all kinds of shenanigans which she had great fun recounting. However I have no idea who they were as on her return home she had forgotten their names and even the band name.

I used to live in the same close as Paul Daniels brother. He used to visit in a Rolls and had to turn around at the bottom of the close outside our house.

I am related to the late Dame Sybil Thorndyke, but never actually met her,
My grandma was her double too,and sometimes was mistaken for her

My dentist told me the technician who made my dental bridge had also made one for Rod Stewart.
When we were on a train to Bath, Jonathan Miller and his family walked through our carriage looking for seats.

My DH met far too many celebs and royalty to mention in the course of his job. He used to tell me he had been speaking with XXX, someone I was a fan of, and I was so envious. Very, very occasionally he would bring in an autograph for me. Sorry can't give details due to security issues.

A guy I didn’t know very well at university was interviewed on TV about alien abduction conspiracies.

My husband ( a lorry driver) once made the Radio 2 travel news as a broken down lorry on the M6.

I loved this one.

My dear mum walked into hotel room and caught a member of Slade in bed with someone he shouldn’t have been in bed with. She was a hotel housekeeper and the room was down as departure so needless to say they were all shocked.

I once waved to the Queen. Does that count?

I think we still called BT the G.P.O, in the seventies.

Tillybelle Fri 20-Nov-20 12:40:37

I'm not allowed to say.

My son got chatted up by a man in a bar in London. He seemed familiar and later found out it was Kevin Spacey.

Juicylucy Fri 20-Nov-20 12:38:21

I used to work for the guy that invented the bar code, which is on all food packaging nowadays. My daughter went out with a very famous footballer in her 20s.

My father had a factory in Manchester, that made eiderdowns and cloth caps and rain coats. . His factory made the hat that Rex Harrison wore when My Fair Lady came to Manchester. Is that tenuous enough!!
We sat in the theatre pointing - all very exciting for a small child!!

I was once having a lie in when I heard the back door open & a voice shouted "hello". I went downstairs in my dressing gown, looking all disheveled, to discover the oh-so-suave OtisFerry, son of Brian, in my kitchen! I was so embarrassed but also quite cross he'd come in without being invited. He lived locally at the time & did have a legitimate reason for calling! DD met Bryan Ferry when she was working in a hotel. He was appearing locally & staying overnight so she was in charge of looking after him - or "Mr Armstrong " as he had checked in as. I was SO jealous! She said he was really lovely.

In our family we have played this for years and it’s known as ‘the famous game’. The current winning entry is that my youngest daughter’s godmother once shared a flat with a girl who was proposed to by Eric Clapton before he was famous. (She turned him down)

The first house my parents bought used to belong to one of the Andrew Sisters.

My grandad was stood behind the princess of Wales in a queue in a sweet shop in tetbury, he didn’t even notice! He only realised when the shop asssistant asked did you realise who the lady in front of you was.

HillyN Fri 20-Nov-20 12:09:13

Right then, Fanny, I think it's time to pick a winner! Which is most tenuous? My vote goes to Hildagard's "Camilla smiled at my dog".

As a teenager I stood in a London bar talking to this lovely American chap while waiting for my then boyfriend, lovely chap was Bill Withers.

I didn't know who he was, boyfriend did and was upset as he only saw him walking away.

On a fortnights holidays some years ago we saw seen Bob Monkhouse walking out of the sea after an early morning swim. Passed Judith Chalmers walking along a beach. Saw Cilla Black with Dale Winton. Had a drink in a bar with Marin MaCutcheon and had a chat with Franki Detori. Then saw a super yacht moor off shore then C Z Jones and Michael Douglas take a speed boat to the hotel next to the one we were in.

Oh and I go on holiday all the time with Brian May. Not THAT Brian May though :-) Mine is 2 years younger and doesn't have a PhD in Astrophysics :-)

CraftyGranny Fri 20-Nov-20 12:07:30

I have the same unusual maiden name as the man who discovered New England and named Martha's vinyard after his daughter. Does that count?

adnil1949 Fri 20-Nov-20 12:07:10

As I was a Londoner in the early 70s and worked in the west end I saw many people but my claim to fame came when I was chatted up by one of the Four Tops
