The more tenuous and obscure the better!
My aunty went out with the bloke who designed * both*
A) the Cadbury's Chocolate Orange packaging, and
B) Buzby, the British Telecom mascot

Ian mcKellenn walked past me in london a few years ago. I managed not to hold my hand up and say “you shall not pass “

I really want to know what your brother did for a living now welbeck!

welbeck Tue 01-Dec-20 02:44:16

my brother once met sir john mills at his home.
he also met esther rantzen's daughter at home, i think it was the one who is now on tv; he said she was very nice, down to earth and kind.
perhaps i should add, for the avoidance of doubt, that these were in the course of his work. !

i came across Jane Asher in circumstances i cannot reveal, not a chosen venue shall we say, and totally non-showbusy.
i can attest that she is a genuinely good person.

I went out with someone who once saw Fatima Whitbread using the zebra crossing when he stopped for the red light.

i don't think zebras have red lights.
perhaps it was a pelican. or just ATS, automated traffic signals, ie traffic lights.
i doubt it was a toucan, as they are a more recent arrival in these climes. i first saw one in chesterfield, nearly 20 years ago. anyone know if its still there.

seacliff - and a great smiler at dogs at Laycock, as Hildagard will attest.
I can imagine that she is lovely.

Nice to see that this thread is still going strongtchsmile

I forgot Camilla. I actually had a chat with her at a naval ceremony
She was warm and friendly, I liked her.

Mine are very old and unexciting!! I once saw Stratford Johns waiting for a train at Saxmundham Railway Station.

Chris Chataway opened a fete I attended as a schoolgirl.

Princess Alexandra opened the new wing of our school in the Old Kent Road.

I have probably gone past lots of famous people but I am terrible at recognising anyone when out, even good friends.

A former work colleague had a friend who went out with Phil Collins.
I saw John Hurt walking along a street in London from the window of a coach I was on.
I saw Ian Lavender in a cafe in our local town - he was appearing in the panto there, apparently.

Tom Jones was told there were no tables available when he called in at our then favourite restaurant, but we weren't there at the time.

FoghornLeghorn Sun 29-Nov-20 19:15:02

I met Barry Manilow when he and his entourage called in to our village pub on the way to a gig. He wanted to try authentic fish and chips.

I once snubbed Dustin Hoffman. Walking past him in the foyer of a London theatre he offered me one of his chocolates. I sailed past saying no thanks with hardly a glance and wondered why my friend was tugging at my arm and stuttering as we climbed the stairs.

Anthony Armstrong Jones winked at me as he and Princess Margaret were driven in their limousine past my school, and we children all had to stand outside waving flags, and my flag blew away in front of their car.

I met the Queen of Denmark when, as Chief Guide, she visited Kenya and I took a group of Ranger Guides to meet her at Karen Blixen's house.

My mum was a Brownie in a Guard of Honour for Amy Johnson when she came back to Hull.

My Granny was in the same class at school as Alexander Fleming, who discovered penicillin.

My son was at university with the toddler who was photographed with Princess Diana in the see through skirt photo.

Katek Sun 29-Nov-20 08:28:58

Whilst at university my DIL shared a flat with a girl who was going out with Neil Oliver and met him on numerous occasions. I once had to shoehorn Alex Salmond into the front seat of my extremely small Fiat 126. He’s a lot taller than you think!

I chatted to Eddy the Eagle in our bar at The Little Theatre, Torquay after he had delivered an evening of anecdotes and reminiscences about his life. He was entertaining on stage and very good company afterwards, requesting a cup of tea in preference to anything else on offer in the bar!

I was with my children at a motorway service station when we saw Cannon & Ball. My son (aged 5) ran over to them and Ball told him to F* off.

Horrible man !

My sister was an ex girlfriend of Sting's brother.
My grandmother had a friend whose daughter was nanny to the children of a minor royal.
