Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.
If you fancy popping on for whatever reason, here is the thread for all Night Owls moon
See you later x

Hello Lucca. What region do you live in now and do you still have your accent?

Lucca Thu 03-Dec-20 07:36:22

Woodmouse I was born And brought up in Northumberland. Many chilly holidays in Bamburgh as a child. “Shopping in Newcastle”. When I was little meant my mother in a suit (she called it a costume) and hat and a visit for morning coffee in Bainbridges cafeteria (called the chattery!) or Fenwicks.

Hi, can I join in please? As the WIFE of a night owl? My husband’s family have been insomniacs and I think inherited this trait. He has tried lots of things to induce sleep but to no avail. I am lucky in that I usually sleep well. But my husband now has an aversion to his own bed (we have separate rooms). He basically uses his recliner chair to sit in most of the day and sleep in (if he can) most of the night. Over the last year he has had the onset of arthritis and also before covid, was down for a knee op, on the proviso that he lost alot of weight. This is not going to happen as he has a habit of eating in the night. His mobility is getting worse. Also suffers from restless legs. He is taking codiene as and when as advised by the doctor. He also has anxiety attacks most days whereby he has to get out the house and has been known to drive his car for some relief in the middle of the night! Don’t know how to help him but get told I am unsympathetic. ☹️

It's silly o'clock in the morning. I don't know whether that qualifies me to be a Night Owl, maybe an early morning owl, not sure they'd he hooting, it's a bit late for the owl community, I imagine they've finished the night shift and have retired back to the land of nod. I've been lying in bed for a while contemplating whether to get up. Decided to bite the bullet and do that, good to know there are quite a few of us who don't sleep well.

jdga, I have just made myself a hot milk. Sleep is eluding me. DH is dead to the world so it's me, Classic FM and GN this morning. I'm going to be like a Zombie today!

jdga Thu 03-Dec-20 05:20:40

sets down tea tray & a proper tin of biscuits
I’m so glad to meet everyone! : )

Fanny, I came up with a cunning plan! I did a screenshot of my FB avatar and cropped out the personal info on the screenshot. I then saved the image and attached it to my GN post. A bit of a faff but there you go.

Hello Fannycornforth not a wink so far , not much on later but a trip to computer repair shop is at 9.30 . No hope of a morning nap ?
Hope Gracie looks beautiful after her groom ...love to see a pic of her ?
Good morning all have a good Thursday.

FannyCornforth Thu 03-Dec-20 04:45:34

Woodmouse where / how do you make those?
Jackie it is getting cold now. It's forecast some snow for us on Friday (Derby).

FannyCornforth Thu 03-Dec-20 04:42:59

Almouth is my favourite place in Northumberland.
Val McDermid (sp?) lived there up until quite recently (trying to cleverly link recent topics)

JackieBee1 Thu 03-Dec-20 04:41:59

Yes please jdga. Have put the heating on low - I'm cold!

Woodmouse Thu 03-Dec-20 04:41:11

This is me!

FannyCornforth Thu 03-Dec-20 04:37:14

jdga welcome, I'll put you on the tea rota!
Yes, that's why I started this thread,
in the middle of the night / early morning it's usually just games threads as far as the eye can see.

FannyCornforth Thu 03-Dec-20 04:33:16

Woodmouse tchenvy

Woodmouse Thu 03-Dec-20 04:30:18

Morning jdga.

Woodmouse Thu 03-Dec-20 04:29:14

Yes Fanny, I'm about 17 miles from Alnwick and 13 from Berwick upon Tweed.

Woodmouse Thu 03-Dec-20 04:26:24

Welbeck and Greenfinch. Yes, it can be wild and windy but that is part of the attraction.
Yes, it's great getting to know a new area but it's been difficult trying to integrate due to the lockdowns etc. We're very friendly folk though and the neighbours are lovely. Big hopes for next year.

jdga Thu 03-Dec-20 04:25:41

Usually when I check GN at this hr, I’m here all by myself...nice to have company! Tea?☕️

FannyCornforth Thu 03-Dec-20 04:22:42

Oooh! Loads of night owls about!moon

FannyCornforth Thu 03-Dec-20 04:21:48

Thanks Greenfinch.
No drama today thank goodness.
I did rather think that man-across-the-road might come over and say thanks you/sorry.
But then he might be expecting one of us to go and see how he is.

It would be an absolute dream come true to live near the sea wouldn't it.

Woodmouse I only know the Bamborough/ Alnwick area in Northumberland. Do you live nearby?

Flora if you're still about, have you got a lot on tomorrow?
I've got nothing on until next week!
I saw your picture of Lolly on another thread. I've got a little bichon / Tibetan spaniel cross called Gracie.
She's going to the groomers tomorrow. Our neighbors are kindly taking her as DH is not up to driving yet.

Woodmouse Thu 03-Dec-20 04:20:36

Morning Fanny! Glad to here you too love Northumberland. It's a truly magical place. I love Cornwall too but we couldn't afford the sort of property there that we were able to buy in Northumberland and DH could never have coped with the crowds in the summer. smile

Hello
Worst night fir a long time don’t think I have slept all night. I have a radio which I can put on for an hour and have done this every hour since going to bed at 11.
I don’t nap during the day so it’s going to be a long day ahead,
Oh dear oh dear I am so fed up,

Greetings to all insomniacs,

Greenfinch Thu 03-Dec-20 04:17:22

We visited Holy Island and Lindisfarne a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It must be lovely to have a new area to explore Woodmouse.

Sealover Thu 03-Dec-20 04:15:16

Have been managing my insomnia for a while but quite regularly wake after a couple of hours sleep. Get fed up of reading and don't like to do anything that would disturb my DH noise wise. Don't like the long lonely nights that leave me feeling jittery the next day, as though I've just got off a long haul overnight flight. Doing everything I can to live as stress free as possible but then even the smallest things can become humongus! I guess it's just about going with the flow and accepting it. It's OK when I haven't much on but I don't want to limit my life, my creativity goes out the window and I'm sure I'm not very nice to live with!

welbeck Thu 03-Dec-20 04:12:57

isn't it much colder up there ?
that would put me off. but i've heard the coast can be stunning, in a remote, bracing sort of way...
