Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.
If you fancy popping on for whatever reason, here is the thread for all Night Owls moon
See you later x

Anyone else not sleeping tonight? I can’t seem to drop off at all.

FannyCornforth Sat 02-Jan-21 07:23:06

Hello again Marilla
You retired at just the right time didn't you. Were you primary or secondary?
I'm currently on sick leave. I have been since February, just before it all kicked off. I worked from home during lockdown though, as everyone was. I offered to work from home in September but they wouldn't let me. They said that there wasn't a role for that, but I reckon that it was because it might have opened a can of worms with others wanting to do the same, especially clinically vulnerable people.
The school and the MAT have been very good and supportive.
I thought that it was fate the I wasn't in school last year, because I was so scared of bringing the virus home and him getting I'll, but then he got it anyway. But I know that he's fortunate that he didn't get it earlier on during the pandemic, as they are now so better at treating it. I think that of all the times to catch it, he caught it at the best time, if that makes sense.

Fanny some time ago you mentioned you are/were a teacher. Are you currently returning to work despite your chronic pain or have you taken retirement?

I was a teacher for over thirty years and retired three years ago. I went earlier than expected as I could see the changes coming and knew it wasn’t for me.

Hello Jackie and Marilla, and Rufus of course
It has been very quiet here tonight.
And yes, things are looking very grim at the moment.
Just heard that primary schools in London won't be going back next week.
Rufus, you asked me about diazepam. The diazepam was for me, (I used to have it prescribed for anxiety) but I gave a tiny bit to the dog because I didn't have any of her medication (it is safe to use for dogs). She was very subdued for a couple of days! She used to get so terrified with the fireworks that I was genuinely scared that she would have a heart attack sad
Hope that everyone has a good day x

Marilla Sat 02-Jan-21 06:25:21

Hello JackieBeel,
It’s quite difficult to avoid the doom and gloom isn’t it?
It always seems so much worse in the early hours of the morning when everyone else is asleep.

JackieBee1 Sat 02-Jan-21 05:46:43

Nothing but doom and gloom in the news.
Hope everyone is sleeping soundly xxx

Rufus2 Sat 02-Jan-21 05:07:40

Shush! Hope I haven't woken anyone, but I was getting a bit worried it'so quiet; not a single snore! tchhmm
I'll try not to knock over the empties as I creep out.!
See you at (your) breakfast! CoCo Pops anyone?

FannyCornforth Fri 01-Jan-21 09:17:04

Hello and Happy New Year!
I really do hope and pray that things perk up this year.
Unfortunately for Gracie and all other nearby animals the fireworks came fast and furious last night, from 7pm until 3am.
I have to stop typing be as the cat is on my lap and won't let me!
Hope you all have a good day x

Ashcombe Fri 01-Jan-21 05:39:48

Happy New Year! I didn’t intend to see in the New Year but folks with fireworks and the cruise ships anchored in Torbay had other ideas as they all sounded their horns at midnight!
All the best to you all. ????

Rufus2 Fri 01-Jan-21 05:35:11

Rufus will label you a 'dumb blonde'!
Kim Of course he won't! Fanny's the real troublemaker around here because having admitted to being ignorant of all things Australian recently she's now jealous of your mastery of Time Zones of which OZ is an essential part.
Don't know whether you're Blonde, Brunette or even Grey, but nobody's dumb if they can hold their own in the cut -and- thrust and repartee of GN debates!
(How's that for a bit of classic patronising!) tchgrin?

Btw; Had baked beans (with added salt) on toast for my light lunch today. Now, what's for dinner!?
Carry on sleeping!

Marilla Fri 01-Jan-21 05:25:54

Happy New Year everyone! ?

Kim19 Fri 01-Jan-21 04:49:53

Nah,,,,,,you'll get the zippity okay. Sounds too good to miss. What's Hayday, please?

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 01-Jan-21 04:36:38

Happy New Year ! DH is snoring so badly and woke me up at 2.
I’ve read the online morning Newspapers, looked at houses in another part of the country that only I want to move too and played HayDay.

Freezing fog still, 3 weather forecasts predicted fog but one said we would have snow at 3 am, well we didn’t.

I think in the morning I will be missing the zippity part of my doo dah day.

Kim19 Fri 01-Jan-21 04:19:07

Happy New Year everyone! I'm wide awake but it doesn't seem to matter. Think I'm becoming complacent at last. It's been a long journey!!

Mollygo Fri 01-Jan-21 03:53:30

I stayed up to watch the fireworks across the Bay then was soon asleep, but my pesky shoulder woke me around 3.30 so I made a hot drink. Happy New Year all and I hope you settle off again soon annsixty.

Blossoming Fri 01-Jan-21 03:50:25

Happy New Year all, OH and I are just going to bed. Just like the old days, but without the party beforehand!

annsixty Fri 01-Jan-21 03:46:17

Everyone must have dozed off after the excitement of the fireworks of which there were many here and the fizz.
I came to bed at 9:30 but didn’t doze until after 1am and am now wide awake.
No fizz for me, just a G&T about 6:30, consequently no sore head for New Year’s day.
I will just wish you all a Happy, Healthy and peaceful New Year.

Rufus2 Fri 01-Jan-21 02:41:23

If you're anything like me, you'll be fast asleep at midnight and wide at 2am
Fanny Now that it's 2.00am at your place I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year again. Although Diazepam is expensive, have you found it works on you?
I'm surprised that poor Gracie has to suffer fireworks this year of all years when there's very little to celebrate and the Country is broke!
Didn't hear a single firecracker here; I think the Chinese are saving them up for their New Year., Friday Feb. 12 Year of the OX. and Red will be the favourite colour, so you'll be revered.! tchgrin

However I must avoid intruding other than to say I'm sorry to have missed your midnight party; I took my elevenses out onto our patio and dozed off in the sun.
It's becoming a worrying problem! tchconfused

Happy New Year all. Hope the night owls sleep well.

FannyCornforth Thu 31-Dec-20 20:38:22

Hello Kim - careful now, or Rufus will label you a 'dumb blonde'!
Happy New Year in advance to all Night Owls. moon
If you're anything like me, you'll be fast asleep at midnight and wide at 2am.
I've doped the dog, so hopefully we'll be in for a peaceful night. x

Kim19 Thu 31-Dec-20 20:30:36

Rufus, hope I've figured the clock correctly and can now wish you a Happy New Year!

FannyCornforth Thu 31-Dec-20 05:17:33

Diazepam. (What a cliff hanger!)

FannyCornforth Thu 31-Dec-20 04:55:35

Hello Rufus!
I'm always rather surprised how cheap pork pies are here.
'Dinner for One' is on here too. It's on BBC 4. I know of it but I've not seen it properly. I didn't realise that it was a world wide thing!
I've ordered some anti anxiety medication for Gracie (my little dog).
She's terrified of fireworks. £46! shock And there's only a couple of days worth. I've been known to give her a tiny bit of

Rufus2 Thu 31-Dec-20 04:41:58

Distract me please! I'm a huge pie fan
So am I, especially the Melton Mowbray pork variety with all that jelly! Unfortunately they cost an arm and a leg here assuming they can be found!

Not long to 2021. Fireworks are on this evening; Sydney, Hobart. The latter are to be extra strong this year to be visible in Melb.; only 600km away!

Traditional B/W 20min film on TV this evening'
"Dinner for One" with Freddie Frinton as "James" and May Warden as "Miss Sophy." celebrating her 90th birthday with absent friends
It's a world-wide event as you probably know; has been shown here every NYE at 6.00pm since whenever and is just as funny every time. tchgrin
So here's to happier times and always sleep well.
