I think I'd have to say "I know I do look better, but quite frankly I can't be arsed!" This is absolutely true by the way. I know when I make the effort I look so mch better (I once had a boyfriend who told me so-he didn't last!). But the sheer effort of all the, smoothing, brushing and blending is too much for me! It's moituriser and a little foundation most days.

I hope Tricia Cusden from Fabulous Forever doesn't read this thread, she would think she was going out of business. Make up for the 'older face'

That was a very insensitive comment and quite frankly downright rude. If you don’t wish to wear makeup - don’t. I hate wearing makeup because I don’t like the feel of it in my face/eyes. I am an eye rubber so inevitably end up with panda eyes ?! I will put it on if we go out somewhere dressed up but won’t bother otherwise.
I’m sure you are a lovely warm kind hearted person and makeup won’t make any difference to that. Be yourself x

I only wear makeup if I am going out somewhere special .
I don’t feel the need to hide behind it .
My best friend wears it everyday and won’t even open her door unless she’s got her “face on “

My experience of people who feel they "have" to wear makeup to feel "groomed" is that they are lacking in confidence and are not comfortable in their own skin. Sweeping generalisation I know, and some people do it to enhance their looks. When I was in my teens I wouldn't leave the house without my mask of makeup. I am a lot more confident and prefer the way I look without it.
I suspect this lady is clinging on to her youth and hasn't got the confidence to be proud of the way she looks. If you know her well persuade her to try facing the world without the makeup. She probably won't, too set in her ways. Ignore her cutting remarks, says more about her own fears.

I only ever wear makeup if I go out in the evenings. I don't see it as anyone else business but my own.

Like many GNs here, I don't routinely wear make-up, other than lipstick when going out. (And sadly the use of lipstick has stopped now, with wearing a mask.) I do use plenty of daily moisturiser and a good sunscreen. "Full" makeup may be employed when going anywhere special; clearly this hasn't happened for quite a while....

I always wear makeup whether I'm going out, or not. It just makes me feel better. However, it's up to the individual to decide. I certainly wouldn't comment on anyone else. (I once saw a young girl do her makeup on the train. She turned from a very ordinary looking person into a stunning one . . . just an observation.)

I do put make up every day because my very pale eyebrows and eyelashes make me look ill! Also a little translucent powder, blusher and lipstick. It just makes me feel better. If you’re not inclined to wear it, it’s totally up you you. How very rude. That’s the sort of remark I think of the perfect retort for two days later.

How rude. You said you do put on make up and perhaps she’s seen you wearing it and thought you looked nice.
Even so, she was rude to pass comment implying you don’t look nice without it.
I always wear make up going out or expecting visitors, but because it makes me feel good. Should always be personal choice.

I only wear makeup if I’m going somewhere nice most of the time I can’t be bothered since I retired three years ago.

Don’t take offence. She probably could see that you are attractive and that make up (in her opinion) would enhance your good looks even further.
I know I look and feel much better with a little make up but I’m too lazy to bother except for special occasions.

was this your adult child? daughter perhaps? they can be so rude and entitled. You just have to laugh it off. They mean well.

The kinder side of me hopes that by making such a comment, they were in some way trying to help you (how I'm not sure) by making what some would say is a "constructive" comment.

I think most of us have a friend/relative that seems to have their mouth disconnected from their brain!

Who told you this ? I believe natural is better , you are who you are .

I wear lipstick every day, even in lockdown as my lips seem to disappear without it. But the OP's "friend" was totally out of order. It's a matter of personal choice.

well I put a little touch of colour on my eyebrows, of which I have very little, and a tiny pencil on the top of my eyelids and a smaller amount on the bottom eyelid..

a small amount of liquid makeup over my nose area..

no lipstick, never worn lipstick ugh it comes off! LOL

I have very little colouring. so I do it FOR ME!

What a rude person. Ignore her. I do put on a bit of make up even when I'm going nowhere. My reason is that it helps fend off the black dog. Make up and earrings seem to help lift my spirits.

My first husband told me that one of the reasons he had been so attracted to me was that I didn't wear a load of make up as he knew what he would wake up to in the morning!
I've never been much of a make up user and I don't take any notice of people who think I should. When I do bother for a special occasion, the compliments I get are lovely but they wouldn't even notice if I wore it all the time.

Maybe whoever said it thought you were a bit down and would feel brighter with a bit of slap on. I cant always be bothered but feel better instantly with a bit of lippy etc.

I think the same as boodymum... she was trying to get you to look and feel a bit brighter.

Other than a dash of lipstick and a bit of blusher I've not used make up since my son's wedding 8 years ago. I do usually put lipstick on if going out but no point now that we wear masks.

I've never worn much make up, it feels uncomfortable but I'm constantly told how good my skin is.

Oh gosh Hetty, my mother used to say that all the time to me. Usually while comparing me to my sister who she told me was classically beautiful and did make the most of herself. Maybe that is why I put little value on it now. If someone enjoys dressing up more power to them. It's just not me.
