Building wise like a pub, or Hotel , as someone well known been present whilst you were in there .
I have had a few experiences .
1: I went to see the Tour De France in Paris in the 80`s on a coach trip , finding the passenger on the trip next to me was Bernard Manning , we also had a beer together .
2:Also in the 80`s I stayed at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate ,and had lunch close to where Johnny Morris was seated .
3: Coming into the 90`s :
Richard Harris in a pub in Banbury ,and staying in Yorkshire again , went to the pub that was called the Woolpack in Esholt, to see cast members of Emmerdale taking a break one was Stan Richards .
4: up to date ,2 occasions I was on a coach trip again staying in a hotel in Old Windsor and Alistair McGowan was having breakfast , and finally staying a hotel outside High Wycombe for my nephews wedding, Rick wakeman was having breakfast .

My dad was invited (with a very ornate invitation) to a dinner at which the Duke of Edinburgh was present. Can't remember much about his comments, he's long gone now.

I was on my way to work when I spotted Mick Fleetwood walking down my local high street. I was due to see Fleetwood Mac in concert a few days later. I just went up to him and said Hello Mr Fleetwood could I have your autograph. I also had a photo taken with him and it got in the local paper. I think he must have some sort of connection with the area as I saw him again a couple of years later.

I was working behind the bar at a West London cricket club and served a couple of drinks to Michael Parkinson. He was a proper gentleman and bought the bar staff a drink. This would have been in the early 80s.

I was having my 50th birthday lunch at Le Manoir au Quatre Saisons and Damon Hill his wife and son were at a nearby table. When Raymond Blanc came out of the kitchen to autograph my menu do ye know what? .....I thought it was my birthday! smile

Some years ago in an Italian restaurant in Leeds, we were sat at the next table to Bill Maynard - he didn't seem at lot different to his Heartbeat Greengrass character.

I once met Fred Dibner at a local Steam Rally, I was standing at the side of the Hot Pie stall, shaking a tin for our Local Animal rescue Society, he spotted that we had a five gallon water barrel that we were using to keep our Dog bowl topped up, and asked me if we could spare him a couple of pints to top up the tank on his Miniture Traction engine that his Son was sitting on nearby. I filled his Can up for him, and he gave us a generous donation into our tin in return! Such a small man, not very tall at all, but had a lovely friendly personality.

Often see Moira Stewart in my local Sainsbury's! She's always so nice to the people serving. And forgot, I see Richard Osman now and then - he lives v. near me. He's so tall you can't help but notice him! Sometimes I have a little chat with him. I once persuaded Rowan Atkinson to buy something from my husband too.

pamdixon Tue 08-Dec-20 14:55:25

I once found myself standing next to Prunella Scales on a very crowded tube - we had a good giggle.
Years ago, my husband and I were in a weeny little restaurant in the middle of nowhere in the South of France. Got chatting to a charming american couple - turns out he was the author of the Hannibal Lecter books. He couldn't have been nicer or more unassuming. At that time Silence of the Lambs was top of the best seller list in the UK - he was very 'chuffed' when I told him that!

We were once staying in a hotel in Dartmouth and sat next to Donald Sutherland and Robert Duvall with their entourage having a meal. They were filming there. They were drinking champagne after retiring to the lounge for after dinner drinks. They later got up and left so my DH decided to go and retrieve the remaining champagne which had been left in the bottle. As we were enjoying our ‘freebie’ Donald Sutherland came back to the lounge to collect the bottle to, we assume, take back to his room! Our faces must have turned scarlet as he looked at us smiled, winked and said “have a good night”. So embarrassed ?!

DH used to eat his sandwiches and play cards with many of the greats at lunchtime until curtain rise. Just a few ... Rex Harrison, Ian Carmichael, Ben Kingsley, Dave Allen, Christopher Reeve, Deborah Kerr, Vanessa Redgrave. On the occasions I joined them I used to be in awe as they chatted about mundane things. The worst one was Leonard Rossiter who was very miserable and arrogant, mainly because he hadn't really made it to the heights.

Waiting for hisband to come back from the loo son chatted to one of tje programme sellers who told js where the stage door was. So son got to meet his heroine from Dr Who and eben got "Hello Sweetie" (one of her dr who catchphrases )to himself.

A group of us from work were in a nearby pub one evening near xmas and the cast of the panto at the nearby theatre came in. Someone noticed Jeffrey Holland (Spike in Hi de Hi) when one if the blokes said in a loud voice words to the effect of "who cares about Jeffrey Holland, theres Vicki Michelle" From the looks he got, Jeffrey Holland had heard him and was not happy!!

Had tea on a friend's lawn in Cornwall with Monty Don back in the 90's. He was filming a feature for Radio Times in her garen. Sat on a table next to Ronnie Corbett near Addington in Surrey. Warren Mitchell was in the next door room at my engagement party in the 60's and came over to congratulate us. Rick Stein was at school with my brother and I have a pic with them both in a school photo.

About 5 years ago my daughter worked in a restaurant and served Sir Roger Moore who had reserved a table.
She hadn’t a clue who he was. My husband would have dined out on that for years.
“We’ve been expecting you Mr Bond”
He was the best in my opinion?

Stood just a couple of feet away from Cliff Richards at Heathrow baggage terminal, was amazed he was collecting his own luggage with us hoi polloi. He seemed to be very self effacing, not advertising himself as some do. Just finished a meal at Tate Britain when Bill Nighy walked past, unfortunately only DH saw him as I was taking DG to the loo! Gordon Brown and wife and detectives sat in front of us at the theatre a few years ago. Stood next to Leo Sayer at a hotel check in desk, didn't recognise him but DH did.

I'm at a bit of an advantage as I live near Hollywood, CA so I've seen quite a few and chatted with several.
I have seen and chatted with Alex Trebek. Such an awesome man. Sad that he lost the cancer fight. I've also chatted with Sharon Stone. Much nicer than I expected her to be. Dwight Yoakam. Al Pacino, David Spade, Paris Hilton, and Rosario Dawson to name a few.

Walked past Prince William in Windsor, when he was at Eton college.

Foxyferret Tue 08-Dec-20 12:47:57

I talked to Ruth Madoc on the stairs of my daughters boarding school when we were picking up the girls. My daughter went to their house several times.

lizzypopbottle Tue 08-Dec-20 12:41:09

Also, my daughter sees many BBC actors (e.g. from Casualty) around Bristol because of the studios there but I've never spotted any when I've been there.

lizzypopbottle Tue 08-Dec-20 12:37:31

In Heathrow airport, before smoking was banned but you had to go into a special perspex room to have a fag, we saw Martin Clunes in there taking a drag. If nothing else had put me off smoking it would be been that! Watched with pity or derision, feeding your habit in visible isolation! Also, we once saw Stephen Hendry wandering around the executive lounge with his snooker cue in its black box.

My husband was a frequent flyer, for business, on BA and saw very many celebs in the exec lounge and on planes but rarely mentioned them. The memorable and exciting ones for him would be sportsmen e.g. Bill Beaumont, and Stephen Hendry (as mentioned above) but, if asked, he could mention Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall and also Cliff Richard. There were probably many more he either didn't recognise or instantly forgot. He wasn't dazzled by celebrity.

80s!

In the ups walked with Harold Wilson and his bodyguard on St Agnes on Scilly. Later chatted at lunch in a pub with him and Mary. Chatted to Bill Oddie on the quay at St Mary's on Scilly Islands.

As a very young woman I worked in Park Lane and we used to go to the 2I's coffee bar in soho in our lunch hour and also some evenings, met Tommy Steele, Cliff Richard, Terry Dean, Wee Willy Harris.
When I lived in Egypt met and shook hands with David Suchet and his wife, both lovely, also saw there Frances delatour (snooty) David Soul (Starsky and Hutch fame) They were in Egypt filming Death on the Nile.
