Building wise like a pub, or Hotel , as someone well known been present whilst you were in there .
I have had a few experiences .
1: I went to see the Tour De France in Paris in the 80`s on a coach trip , finding the passenger on the trip next to me was Bernard Manning , we also had a beer together .
2:Also in the 80`s I stayed at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate ,and had lunch close to where Johnny Morris was seated .
3: Coming into the 90`s :
Richard Harris in a pub in Banbury ,and staying in Yorkshire again , went to the pub that was called the Woolpack in Esholt, to see cast members of Emmerdale taking a break one was Stan Richards .
4: up to date ,2 occasions I was on a coach trip again staying in a hotel in Old Windsor and Alistair McGowan was having breakfast , and finally staying a hotel outside High Wycombe for my nephews wedding, Rick wakeman was having breakfast .

Cliff Richard in the 1960. Played impromptu gig with amateur group. Friendly and very talented.
Fast forward to 1990's. Saw Princess Margaret in Islington and Mr Blobby on Waterloo Station both on the same day. Her petite and elegant, him the opposite.
Lots of politicians. Very similar to each other

I was lucky to live in Borehamwood when MGM studios had a site there back in the 60's. Passed Diana Rigg on a zebra crossing, Patrick McGoohan opened a pub door for me and my friend and I'd watch Liz Taylor and Richard Burton leave their lodgings at 'The Thatched Barn' hotel from the window where I worked, each morning around 9.30. But my favourite memory is in Debenhams, Oxford Street in the late 80's when I found myself a few feet away from Julie Christie, we were buying our tights together!

Not Doc Martin Clunes. Stupid phone.

lincolnimp Tue 08-Dec-20 12:12:44

Oh yes, also a loooong chat with Nick Knowles at another Foster Carer event.

Kate1949 Tue 08-Dec-20 12:12:34

I've seen many celebrities in the flesh over the years, including The Beatles but if we're talking a meal or a drink. Does it count that I saw Martin Clunes getting his lunch from the catering truck whilst filming Doc Martin Clunes n Port Isaac grin

Often saw Nigel Havers in our local Waitrose. John Nettles (Bergerac) sat at the next table to me in a restaurant. Got picked from the audience to help David Copperfield with an illusion. I got invited backstage later and he signed a photograph asking me not to let anyone know how he did it - I don't have a clue.
I went for a walk round the Badminton Course and stood watching the horses when a vehicle pulled up and out hopped the Queen. Also DH and I got introduced to Princess Anne on a private visit. Just the two of us chatting to her for several minutes on her own - she was lovely.

(Without divulging the reasons they were there) when I was a nurse at the Portland Hospital in London I met/saw Mick Jagger, Jason Donovan, Elle McPherson and Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook). Walking along Kensington High Street I saw Dustin Hoffman, who smiled when he saw my eyes enlarge at the sight of recognising him. I would never have the courage to chat to anyone famous. I was with my mother at a bar in Palm Springs California in the 70's when we saw her idol - Frank Sinatra!! She had no qualms at all of going up and chatting to him. I hope my dream comes true someday of seeing Paul McCartney in the flesh.

Used to live in Spain; saw Harry Redknapp and Robert Kikroy-Silk at local restaurants. Recently spotted Helena Bonham Carter on her way to attend Nell Gifford's funeral at Gloucester Cathedral. The circus folk were there in full costume.

Tilda Swinton was at same New Year’s Eve dinner as us a few years ago. Also sat at next table to Andy Hamilton and his family for breakfast for a week at a Highland hotel. Dh was on business trip to Monaco and found himself in same cafe as Roger Moore

Went to an 80th birthday celebration and met the 'birthday boy's' son, conductor Stephen Barlow and DIL Joanna Lumley.
Sold books to Gerry Marsden, met Jacqueline Wilson and Jayne Torville (she posed for a photo for me) at a Foster Carers event
Chatted to Gerald, the late Duke of Westminster at an Autistic Society event.
Graham Norton passed us as we were leaving the 25th anniversary performance of Les Mis and we saw Ronnie Corbett in Fortnum and Masons many years ago.

Christmas 2017 my son, his partner and hubby collaborated to surprised me with an all expenses paid trip to go and see Sam Smith perform live at the Roman amphitheater in Verona, Italy for the following May.
On the day of the performance we were sightseeing around Verona and had stopped off to have a coffee at a small quiet cafe in the shadows of the Duomo when two official looking blacked-out people carriers pulled up outside. We thought it must be someone important as it was a restricted zone with very few vehicles and not many people.
Being curious we stuck around to see who it could be when who should jump out but Sam Smith and his backing singers! They disappeared into the building next door and we could hear them rehearsing inside so like star struck teenage groupies ? we hung around outside listening. Suddenly the door opened and Sam, the backing singers, musicians, film crew all came out, went down the side of the building into the side street and proceeded to sing and record the promotional video for his new song “baby you make me crazy”! We were treated to an hour long unofficial private performance as we stood within feet of Sam and the team! At the end of the recording the hubby and son were invited by Sam to have a “selfie” taken and this can be seen on the end of the office video! Sam was lovely and took the time to talk to us and didn’t mind us taking lots of photos & videos.
One of the best Christmas presents ever!

My husband is in the rock music business so there've been lots of them (often here in the house) but when I'm out and about I never recognise anyone famous at all. I was walking along the Embankment with a friend and she suddenly said, 'That was Jimmy Osmond', as a couple of chaps passed us. I thought, how on earth would she recognise him? And was he even in the UK? But he was on TV the next night so I was v. impressed with her skill.

Too many to mention as I was in the film industry and Cannes was awash with them during the Film Festival.

Judy Dench in the local pub

Ismael Merchant at the Nehru centre.

Shashi Kapoor at the ghastly Hinduja's Diwali party. Shashi was the loveliest man, met him a few times and visited him in his gorgeous appartment in Bombay.

Sayeed Jaffrey was a good friend

Anthony Minghella and Joan Baker at the BFI. Both of them were really lovely with not side to them at all.

Met Charles Dance in India, very aloof but lovely wife. Was friendly with his lookalike son, super guy.

Just remembered that I was on holiday in India with my husband, and we went to the beautiful Taj Mahal. My husband took a picture of me sitting on a bench in front of it. Some years later Princess Diana sat on the same bench. I've seen that bench with Princess Diana on it many times since, on TV. I suppose this does not count as quite the same as actually seeing Princess Di?

Oldwoman70 Tue 08-Dec-20 11:30:57

Just remembered - when working for a Solicitor Tom Stoppard and his wife Miriam were clients. They would stop and chat to us - he was lovely, can't say the same for her!

Nortsat Tue 08-Dec-20 11:27:20

Good spot Vickysponge I didn’t mean Leonardo Di Caprio in Gard du Nord ... I meant Jude Law getting on Eurostar with the children and the Louis Vuitton luggage.

I can’t remember anyone’s names those days ... and my partner is just as bad ... so there’s no point in asking him.

But it was definitely Jude Law ...?

Boolya Tue 08-Dec-20 11:26:45

The lovely Max Boyce at Jersey airport. I knew he had worked on the folk circuit with my boss years before so I cheekily spoke to him and he gave me £0.43 for my boss to buy a drink!

Villa babe. I’m sooo jealous especially David Essex.
Prince Micheal of Kent asked me to recommend a wine when he came into the wine shop where I worked in the eighties. Went to a church service where Prince Charles and Diana attended.Princess Diana sometimes when she went shopping in Tetbury. Son sang in the choir and went to sing at Highgrove one xmas. Antony Andrews coming out of the Close Hotel Tetbury. Peter snow waiting for his lady friend or wife to come from the bakers in Tetbury. Fraser Hines came into my pub in Hay on Wye. Tom Philby son of Kim used to come into my pub also from time to time. Nice memories.
Martin Roberts winked at me when I spotted him in the cafe at Gatwick Airport.

Made coffee for Alan Whicker ( I must have been about 10) when he and his film crew came to our house to interview my Dad for a programme. Sat behind Richard Briars & wife on a coach trip in Australia, going to Ayers Rock. Ricky Tomlinson was on next table in the dining room at a hotel where we were staying. Most notable, about 2 years ago, was meeting, and having a lovely chat to, Billy Connolly as he arrived at the hotel where we had been staying. Sadly we were about to leave and I couldn’t pluck up the courage to ask for a selfie! Big regret!

Many years ago, I took Nick Knowles knocked on our door and a few months later I took him out to dinner in London.

Annaram1 Tue 08-Dec-20 11:16:33

My husband and I were on holiday in Ibiza many moons ago and we spotted Terry Thomas shouting at a local in a very irate manner. I never liked him after that.
Also was walking up a road in London I saw coming towards me was a very large handsome man in a beige coat. It was Roger Moore. We ignored each other.
Also waited for hours outside a London theatre after going to "Guys and Dolls" as we wanted to see Patrick Swaizee come out, which he did, and he graciously thanked the little crowd for coming. He did not have a dancing role. Seemed a nice man, but I think he was already ill as he died not long after.
