Do our fingers swell as we get older?

Calendargirl I echo what you say as we were obviously married in the same year.My wedding ring is broad and patterened and I haven't been able to wear my engagement ring with it since I got married. In fact I sometimes wore a very delicate one left to me by an aunt. At present I only wear the wedding ring.

My rings seemed to be getting tighter so I took them off whilst I could, except my wedding and engagement rings that were not tight. I’ve replaced the others with cheap silver rings so that there’s no problem if they have to be cut off.

I’d put on a bit of weight but it’s going again now due to low carb/sugar diet.

My rings are relatively loose, but extremely difficult to get over the immediate metacarpal joints, which I assume is arthritis. Annoying, as if I were to have them made bigger, they would just slip round and round, once over the joints. I hate the signs of aging!

Mine tend to swell up in the evening just a little and are very red.
Come the morning,back to normal.
I put it down to hormones and age.

My 48 year old wedding ring is a broad one, fashionable back then, but if I were getting married nowadays, I would choose a narrow band.

Although my fingers don’t seem bigger, I cannot wear my wedding, engagement and eternity rings together, they are too near the knuckle. I struggle to get two rings on for any length of time.

Since I retired, I rarely wear any rings, which is a shame really. ?

The fingers on my left hand are noticeably thinner. My GM's engagement ring which I wear on my ring finger is quite loose, though the knuckle still keeps it in place. On the other hand (excuse the pun) the fingers on the right are fatter and my right hand an inch wider all round than my left. Arthritis seems to affect the right more than the left.

I have the same problem only started this year I am 70..
I no longer wear wedding or engagement rings, will have them enlarged when I can get to the jewellers again.

I don't think generally that they do except maybe in hot weather. Mine are thinner. If you haven't got arthritis maybe get it checked.

We kept a ring cutter in the operating theatre.

I haven't noticed, but my daughter said that my fingers used to be slim and long but now they're short and stubby...?

I took my wedding ring off too. My finger joints have arthritis but that wasn't the reason. I had something like contact dermatitis around my ring finger and the fingers beside it. I must have had a reaction to something. I don't think it could be my wedding ring because that is platinum. I wondered if it was the alcohol gel I used at the hairdresser or when we ate out at the pub, but it seems unlikely.

My finger joints are very swollen with arthritis. I believe this is pretty common but doesn't happen to everyone.

I have found the opposite to be true. When I put on weight in my forties I was unable to wear my wedding ring and eventually had it enlarged. Now it almost slips off especially if my hands are cold.

If your fingers are swelling you should go and get a medical check up. Just to be sure.

Most of my finger joints now have Arthritis and are bigger than they were. There is no chance I could get my first wedding ring on again although I still have it and it’s tiny ?

I have noticed recently that my wedding ring was becoming a little uncomfortably tight and started panicking a bit that I could not slide it off over the knuckle. Eventually I managed to get it off with cooking oil. I am 62 and not overweight. Is this normal? I don't want to put it back on at the moment but I suppose I could get it enlarged.
