Anybody had trouble doorbell ringing and nobody there?

I’s say the battery door bell is the culprit. We had one, briefly,and it rang out at all hours ( driving the dog mad ) but had a ‘proper’ one wired in when the house was required.

Try changing the batteries at both ends. An erroneous ring can indicate low battery power (like when a smoke alarm begins to bleep continuously). A door bell will ring as the temperature falls and drains the battery more

Ours does this if interruption in electricity as plugged in to socket. Did you have any clocks flashing ie on cooker.

We've got a Ring doorbell so we can see on our phone who is there, and decide whether or not to answer the door! Occasionally it gets set off by a pesky cat which sneaks up the side to do its business in our back garden.
However, I did used to suffer from the car alarm going off at random times, and eventually traced the culprit to a small spider which had been scuttling across the sensor gizmo inside the car.

This happens to me occasionally, and it is quite concerning. However, I resist the urge to open the door on the assumption if anybody really wanted to see me they would call out as well.

I bought a doorbell for my mother. Before taking it to her, I tested it out in my kitchen and tried all the (numerous) different chimes. Whilst doing this, from the kitchen window I spotted my next door neighbour opening her front door numerous times, looking around and then closing the door. I didn't give it much thought until reading the instructions, it advised to alter the frequency to avoid interference from other people's doorbells.

It sounds like one of your neighbours has a new doorbell.

our bell is a real bell activated by a wire, pulling on a large metal dropper- so no, it never rings by 'mistake'

As kids though- it was the sort of stuff we would get up to ;)

sometimes when battery are low this happens change the batterys if it was damp or raining moisture could of got in and caused it, if it only happened once i wouldnt think any one was there

POllyDolly, we have a similar problem. Our doorbell is beside the door knob but delivery drivers always just bang on the door.

No idea what could have caused it, other than spiders, but hoping it doesn’t happen again especially late at night! Yes security camera on gate good idea

We are the opposite; our doorbell is at eye level on the door frame for all to see BUT people still don't notice it! Problem is, we have an inner porch door which is always closed during the cold weather. Consequently, we miss loads of people who come to our door because we don't hear them knocking!

Yes, had that - but not for a while, come to think of it. Assumed it was, as has been said above, someone else with a bell on the same channel.

But randomly, the tv in the bedroom will switch on at precisely 3am. Never a minute either side!

I've taken to pulling the plug out at night

Yes! I had a wireless doorbell and every time I answered the door, I noticed my neighbour would be walking away from his car.

Eventually, I realised that his remote car fob was triggering my wireless doorbell. I gave up and bought a brass door knocker!

Rufus I have 2 entrances to my property. The driveway curves round the front passed the bungalow and out of our top back gate. So depending which entrance couriers use I have parcels delivered to both front and back door. Most don’t know the difference anyway although back door has no name or letterbox.

I think you may have the answer MOnica. One would imagine it could happen again if that is the case. Anyway made us think about Security. A Security Officer told me not to light the back way. Maybe a security camera on the gate would be a good idea. Think I will set the burglar alarm tonight for entry points.

Spiders, Bats, Moths, and even someone's local Baby Alarm, plus some Mobile phones can interfere with electronic devices nearby and set them off!

Spiders used to set off the alarms in one school where I worked.

If, as you say, it's the backdoor bell and you have no near neighbours why do you need it in the first place!?
Being a long bungalow any visitor would surely come to your front door. I'd uninstall it. QED!
Otherwise try the CCTV.

Not me but a friend, it was only when someone stayed there she realised (she takes her hearing aids out at night!).
She had a new doorbell fitted.

We had this problem. We were told the reason was that someone in the vicinity had a doorbell or other device set to the same channel as our door bell. The remedy was to set the doorbell to a different channel.

If you no longer have the instructions for the device, look them up online to find how to change the channel.

Ours goes off occasionally, not sure why though. We have lights outside so assume it’s just a glitch between the bell push and the plug.

My OH has had the same problem for several months now; always very late at night/early hours of the morning. He has a bay window which, when he looks out of the side of that, he can see anyone standing at his front door, but every time it's happened, there's never any one there. He's convinced his house is haunted!

Horrible and scary for you. Hope it doesn't happen again.
