IPad Addiction

I remember my daughter giving me my first IPad and looking at it suspiciously. Now it seems attached to my hand, Particularly during lockdown.
I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing as I could be getting on with more creative things, but a whole world resides there, kindle, Gransnet? photos, friends etc. etc. I have a love/hate relationship with it.
How do you feel about yours?

Some people complain abouts teens being on their phones and games etc but I don't think its any different than the grown ups watching tv most nights - and some days!

I love shopping whilst I’m still in bed.

mphammersley Sat 12-Dec-20 17:05:38

A blessing and a curse! But I would be lost without it?

I absolutely love mine but these last few months have been having very dry painful eyes waking up a lot of nights to put moisture drops in! I’m 72 had cataract surgery on both eyes when I was 50.

I’m an IPad addict too! For me it has been a gateway to computing...I was a complete technophobe before. I hate it when it tells you how many hours you have spent on it each week and says what percentage increase there has been....!

Good to hear that others are addicted. I thought it was just me.

Urmstongran Sat 12-Dec-20 14:30:35

I think because we didn’t grow up with the technology, for us of an older generation it definitely has the ‘wow’ factor!

Yes, another addict here. I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one.

The only negative point I can think of is that I no longer have the patience to read books. I used to be an avid reader but find I just can’t concentrate any more.

It is the best thing ever! Our son lives in Canada and we Facetime two or three times a week. Our grandchildren message us and vice Versa. When I am at work, I can set the heating at h9me from it so we don’t come home to a cold house. My 85yr old mother can communicate with everyone by email or FaceTime.

It has a million and one uses and I never ever want to be without it!

iPad addict here. My 3 children clubbed together and bought me one 4 years ago.
I no longer tut tut at our younger generation being glued to their phones.
Pot calling kettle and all that.x

I love my tablet. As soon as I'm up and coffee made, on goes my tablet to check emails. I buy online constantly. And since there is nothing whatsoever, EVER worth watching on TV, I can binge watch Netflix.

GrannyBuy, with so many photos you may be advised to get a subscription to Dropbox. It is an app that you can download. There is a free version but after a while i had so many photos that needed organising that bought a sub. You could try the free version on your old and new iPad and see how you get on. The photos should appear on both but there is a limit to the number of photos you can have in the free version.. Good app though.

My daughter and son in law bought me an I pad pro last Christmas. I very seldom use it as everything that I would do on it , I do on my phone instead .

Janiepops Sat 12-Dec-20 13:09:22

And another one here, addiction is total!
For those of you that love games like solitaire etc, let me recommend a mahjong that I’ve had on iPad for nine years now! Completely brilliant! Still play everyday. There’s some free games to try, ( don’t give up, it’s great once you get used to it) or I paid a couple of quid to unlock all games, AND get rid of adverts, it’s similar to snap, you just touch two keys that match. Here’s a pic incase you look for it!

Grannie7 - it didn't occur to me to shop at Apple online - our Apple Store is in Cardiff. I drive but only locally. So I had no choice but to get it from John Lewis online. I tried various online stores and they were all sold out. Finally, I managed to get one from JL. Thanks anyway.

I am very fond of my ipad He /she. (never bother with names). keeps me company on these winter nights and always accompanies me to bed .It is my contact with the outside world to get in touch with relatives and friends /watch a movie /read a book /listen to music .
What would I do without it.

Shinamae Sat 12-Dec-20 13:00:39

I have an iPad mini, love it, I play a lot of word games on it hopefully keeping the old grey matter in good health! ? also I play a great trivia quiz, all these games are free by the way....

Supergran1946 Sat 12-Dec-20 12:53:35

I am totally addicted as well ! I play cards on it, read books on it and “google” everything. I have bought all my xmas presents on line, so I track the delivery of the goods on the i pad etc etc.
I get my news on the BBC news website - Can’t live without it now

We are 'shielding' so use Facetime on the iPad to read bedtime stories to our DG and yesterday had a remote celebratory birthday dinner with a friend in the same way. It keeps us connected if you will forgive the pun!

grandtanteJE65 Sat 12-Dec-20 12:48:04

I don't have an Ipad, but use my laptop.

I check Gransnet daily, in the afternoon and once or twice a week send e-mails or receive them.

I bank over the Internet and sometimes shop there.

I don't use the Internet on my smartphone, the screen is too small to read easily, and I don't see the need for an IPad or Tablet.

Macgran43 Sat 12-Dec-20 12:40:33

Couldn’t be without it.I paid £5.99 to download Scrabble.I play most days .Can play against the computer at all levels or can play with other Scrabble addicts. It’s the Mattel one I bought.

Vintagegirl Sat 12-Dec-20 12:25:48

Greatly appreciate all techie stuff and now the fast speed and so much cheaper wifi compared to 'dial up' days. I use all three all the time. I have a good laptop so prefer that for viewing Netflix etc as great screeen and sound. I also prefer a proper keyboard for typing. But tablet is marvellous for when travelling. I can watch netflix on it then.( you can download material if flying and offline for example). I also use it for digital newspaper I sub to. It is handy for bedtime as so neat.

Esspee Sat 12-Dec-20 12:24:12

I’m hoping you are not being paid by Apple for this endorsement hollysteers.?
I do have an iPad mini and a kindle fire, both of which fit nicely into my handbags.
I find having a tablet (regardless of brand) essential these days and when my broadband was down for 27 hours recently I used up all my satellite allowance on my phone.
This is from someone who didn’t even have access to a landline until I was about 16. ?

My DS had one of the first ones, I was blown away by the technology when he brought it round to show me and quickly bought one for myself. I am now on my 3rd, an iPad Air. Love it, DH says it’s my third arm. He complains about the time I spend on it but is quick to ask me to look stuff up.

Saturday afternoons he meets up with friends to watch rugby on tv, but can’t during lockdown and had to watch it on my iPad, Amazon prime. I was very put out not having t by me. Luckily I also have an iPhone so I am able to keep track of emails etc. I have got a pc in one of the bedrooms but hardly use.

henetha Sat 12-Dec-20 12:06:23

I can't imagine life now without my iPhone, laptop, kindle etc. But I don't have an iPad. However, I can do so much on my phone etc that I'm not sure I need one.
I think I'm semi-addicted, as I have to use these things every day, but not all day. I like to mix it up a bit with other things.
How on earth anybody could survive covid without these electronic marvels is beyond me.
